ABSTRACT Objectives: to analyze palliative care production developed by health professionals to home care patients. Methods: this is an exploratory study, with a qualitative approach, using the transpersonal care theoretical framework. Thirteen interviews were conducted with health professionals and 18 observations were conducted on different cases. Content analysis was performed using MAXQDA©. Results: actions performed: maintenance and follow-up measures to people eligible for palliative care, in acts of dialogue and "listening" to caregivers and users, conducting guidelines for the care and self-care process, performing technical procedures, delivery of materials, referrals and medical prescriptions to users. Final Considerations: it is perceived the need for advances in the implementation of government policies in Brazil that insert palliative care into the Health Care Network through educational, managerial and care actions that ensure human dignity, thus allowing the development of these and other palliative care interventions.

The colostomized person's perceptions regarding sexuality and sexual activity is a major component of quality of life and nursing care, however due to several limitations, the questionnaire only approach, although validated for such applications, has not enough resolution, due to its qualitative approach, to capture more delicate aspects of the impact of an ostomy onto a otherwise healthy patient. In order to correct such bias, a exploratory-descriptive study of a qualitative approach based on Bardain’s content analysis was conducted.  80 colostomized participants were recruited from Stomatology Outpatient Clinics in the Hospital de Base, Regional Hospital of Asa Norte and the Regional Hospital of Gama, Distrito Federal, Brazil. Data was collected through a clinical and sociodemographic questionnaire, as well as an individual interview. The results are presented in five categories: self-concept, leakage issues, odor and gases, stigma, sexual activity and companionship. The analysis suggests that the fulfillment of nursing care ideals, through clear and objective communication, results in the colostomized person's care and can favor in the acceptance of their new way of living. The exchange of knowledge and practices between the colostomized patient and the medical care support crew, in special the nursing care, allows the establishment of strategies that contribute gradually to the full health care, promoting the improvement of the QoL of both the colostomized person as well his/her partner. It is concluded that health services should provide care process in health and nursing, with the purpose of guaranteeing means for the planning of a holistic implementation of health care. This planning should include the psychological support and the educational process that develops one's ability for self-care, which may interfere in the role of sexuality and sexual activity, in addition to the physiological, psychological and social issues.

The successful integration of palliative care with the health care system may require a concentrated effort on the part of the professional community to clearly identify those concepts that form the basis for the model. The lack of a clear identification both of those concepts viewed by the various disciplines as forming the model, or basis of palliative care, and of the areas of conflict within the model, can lead to a variety of problems. Specific problems that can occur, as both formal and informal attempts are made to convey information about palliative care, include a) emphasizing one part of the model without providing an overview, b) presenting a portion of a given concept, and c) presenting one side of a conflict around a basic concept. The lack of a clearly delineated model of palliative care may be the result of the multidisciplinary nature of this particular approach to patient care. Each discipline has tended to emphasize those ideas that best represent that particular profession. This paper attempts to extract and describe from the literature those concepts that are emphasized, across disciplines, as essential to the provision of palliative care. Conflicts related to the essential concepts are also described.

In Scandinavian countries, health professionals are legally obliged to involve patients’ minor children. A growing field of research focuses on the support to, and needs and experiences of, these children. We add to previous research by analysing discourse in qualitative interviews with nurses and doctors in Norwegian public palliative health care. The analysis identifies four interpretative repertoires picturing the child in different ways and defining possibilities for what health professionals can say and do regarding child involvement.

Abstract BackgroundThis study examines the risk factors associated with nursing home admission (NHA) in Belgium to contribute to a better planning of the future demand for nursing home (NH) services and health care resources.MethodsIndividual level linkage of the 2013 Belgian health interview survey data and health insurance data (2012 to 2018) was done. Only non-institutionalized participants, aged ≥65 years at the time of the survey were included in this study (n=1930). Participants were followed until NHA, death or end of study period, i.e., December 31, 2018. The risk of NHA was calculated using a competing risk analysis.ResultsOver the follow-up period (median 5.29 years), 226 individuals were admitted to a NH and 268 died without admission to a NH. The overall cumulative risk of NHA was 1.4%, 5.7% and 13.1% at, respectively 1 year, 3 years and the end of follow-up. After multivariable adjustment, higher age, low educational attainment, belonging to low income household, living alone, use of home care services and a number of need factor (e.g., history of falls, suffering from urinary incontinence, depression or Alzheimer disease, etc.) were significantly associated with a higher risk of NHA, while female, individuals with multimorbidity and increased contacts with health care providers were significantly associated with a decreased risk of NHA. Subjective health and limitations are both significant determinants of NHA, but subjective health is an effect modifier on the effect of limitations and vice versa.ConclusionsOur findings pinpoint important predictors of NHA in older adults, and offer possibilities of prevention to avoid or delay NHA for this population. The strong impact of need factors on the risk of NHA may indicate equitable access to NHA (i.e., those in need for support have access to NH). Practical implications include prevention of falls and appropriate and timely management of physical chronic conditions and neurodegenerative disorders. Focus should also be on people living alone to provide the appropriate social support and/or home care services. Further investigation of predictors of NHA should include contextual factors such as the availability of nursing-home beds, hospital beds, physicians and waiting lists for NHA.

ABSTRACT Objective: To know the perception of health professionals and their families about fake news related to the COVID-19 pandemic. Method: Descriptive-exploratory study with a qualitative approach. Twenty-eight individuals participated, including seven physicians, seven nurses, and 14 family members. Data collection took place between August and October 2020, with audio-recorded interviews. After transcription, the content was analyzed using Content Analysis, thematic modality. Results: Three categories were identified: “Context of the occurrence and dissemination of fake news in times of pandemic”; “Consequences of fake news on the experience of the pandemic”; and “Coping strategies to contain/combat fake news”. Conclusion: Sociocultural, political, educational, and technological aspects influence the occurrence and dissemination of fake news, which have consequences such as: misinformation, self-medication, worsening in the professional-patient relationship, increased need for additional research, and fear in the population. To face the current situation, greater control by the State is required, with investigation and punishment of people who disseminate fake news, as well as greater awareness among the population on the subject.

The study seeks to investigate aspects of sexuality of women with breast cancer interned. The emergence of the study took place at the time of my professional practice where I came across patient dialogues, and health professionals with the behavior of women in different times, having sexual practice and professional assistants, on the other hand the kind of suppressed such an attitude as well as the patients more “excited” In the context of health, the educational process consists much more than the simple act of teaching. The client, who is often mistakenly called a passive individual, is a key player in the care process, since we already know that the process of health care is dynamic and requires the participation of both parties, whether caregiver or individual who will receive the care.

Approaching the knowledge of professionals of a multidisciplinary residency program in health contributes to the reflection and analysis of knowledge, with reflexes in the structuring of educational responses aimed at strengthening the effective movement of health promotion in this training modality. This study aimed to understand the knowledge that professionals in a multidisciplinary residency have about health promotion and know the perceptions that they have about the contributions of the residency training process for health promotion practices. This is an exploratory study with qualitative approach, carried out in the context of Integrated Health Residency Program of the School of Public Health of Ceará-ESP-EC, Ceará State, Brazil. Sixteen professionals who had been trained in the program were interviewed. Data from interviews were organized according to content analysis technique and with the support of ATLAS.ti software. Two categories were raised: 1) Health promotion: from information to empowerment; and 2) Multiple training moments: contributions to health promotion practices in Multidisciplinary Residency in Health. The knowledge of residents, inferred from the speeches, sometimes assumed a posture congruent with the theoretical-conceptual international principles of health promotion, strengthening its effectiveness in the country through the Multidisciplinary Residency in Health as a training modality, and sometimes revealed features still related only to the prevention of diseases. Residents demonstrated to be aware of the need to overcome the hegemonic model that considers health professionals as the sole holders of knowledge.
