The objective of this cross-sectional study was to analyze therapeutic communication techniques used by health workers with patients under care for diabetes mellitus. Data were collected in 2010 in a public facility in the interior of Ceará, Brazil using video camera equipment and direct observation. Results showed that the most frequently used techniques within the "expression" group were: asking questions, voicing interest, and using descriptive phrases. The most frequently used technique within the "clarification" group was: asking the patient to specify the agent of action. Finally, in regard to the "validation" group, only the technique "summarizing content of the interaction" was employed. The conclusion is that despite the use of communication techniques on the part of professionals, there is still an alarming gap concerning communication skills. Such skills should be allied with technical expertise to enable the delivery of qualified care to individuals with diabetes mellitus.

Adherence with medication is one of the important factors in controlling blood glucose levels in patients with diabetes mellitus (DM), which in turn also determines the risk of diabetic complications. The profile and factors that influence adherence behaviour in the use of medication in elderly diabetic patients in Indonesia, especially in East Surabaya, are not yet known. The purpose of this study was to identify profiles and factors that influence the behavior of drug use adherence in elderly DM patients. A cross-sectional study was conducted in 32 Karang Werda or support groups for elderly in East Surabaya. Identification of the respondent’s level of adherence was carried out using the Adherence to Refill and Medication Scale (ARMS) questionnaire while the contributing factors towards adherence behaviour were identified using a published questionnaire. Both questionnaires have been validated in elderly people living in Surabaya. Result of adherence profile analysis was expressed in terms of percentage while determinant factors analysis was identified by using the highest mean among 14 sub-domains included in the questionnaire. In total, 281 elderly diabetic patients were recruited in this study. It was identified that 67.26% of the respondents were classified as non-adherence patients. The dominant factors that contribute to the behavior of medication adherence in elderly diabetic patients were social support, product-related factors, health workers, and emotional factors. Appropriate interventions to optimize the use of medications in elderly diabetic patients need to be identified and implemented according to the identified contributing factors.

About 7% of South Sulawesi's population suffer from this disease. DM is a lifelong disease that requires good management, especially in terms of blood sugar control. The aim of study is to determine factors associated blood sugar level of patients DM type 2 in RSUD Kota Makassar. This study used cross sectional study approach and sample of 149 people. This research was conducted at Internal Polyclinic of RSUD Kota Makassar, data were collected using questionnaires and patient medical records file. The results of univariate analysis showed that most respondents got adequate family support (55.1%). Most people with type 2 diabetes melitus in RSUD Kota Makassar had good diet (51.5%). Blood sugar levels of respondents in this study which were still not well controlled (77.9%). Bivariate analysis with chi square test showed that family support was not related to blood sugar levels (p = 0.26) while diet was associated with blood sugar levels (p = 0,000, = 0.523). That blood sugar levels related with dietary, not family support. <strong>:</strong> It is desirable for health workers to optimize the counseling method for patients, especially in terms of motivating patients to control disease and family should be involved in the counseling activities</em><em>.</em><em></em></p><pre><strong><em> </em></strong></pre><pre><strong><br /></strong><em></em><strong><em></em></strong></pre>

Diabetic Ulcers was a threat to people with Diabetes Mellitus and even caused amputations. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between risk factors and the occurrence of Diabetes Ulcers to the patients with type 2 Diabetes Mellitus at Syekh Hospital of Gowa Regency. This study was an Analytical Survey Study that the researcher conducted a cross sectional study conducted in April to May 2019. The population in this study was Type 2 of DM patients seeking treatment at Syekh Yusuf Hospital Gowa Regency, consisted 30 respondents. The results showed that age, duration of DM and adherence to take medication had a significant relationship with the occurrence of Diabetes Ulcers in type 2 of DM patients. All factors had a value <0.05. It was expected that patients will always increase efforts to prevent the occurrence of Diabetic Ulcers through the prevention of various risk factors for Diabetic Ulcers in patients with type 2 Diabetes. So, this needed to be considered by health workers to pay attention to the risk factors. One of the factors that could be modified was medication adherence because it affected the patient's blood sugar levels that had impacted on the complications of Diabetic Ulcers. Keywords: Age, Length of Suffering from Diabetes Mellitus, Compliance with Taking Medication, Diabetic Ulcer

Vietnam has one of the highest multi drug resistance in Asia. Although, despite many efforts to implement the Antimicrobial Stewardship Programs (the ASP) since 2016, studies that on the implementation policy are very lacking of this program are limited. For that reason, we conducted this cross-sectional study to analyze the viewpoint of health workers (HWs) on the implementation of the ASP at some hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City (HCMC). An assessment of 234 HWs showed that the implementation of the ASP in HCMC hospitals was above average (62.7/100.0). A barrier to the implementation consisted of the deficiency in finances, guidelines for diagnosis, and specific interventions for some common infections, such as distributing current antibiogram and monitoring rate of Clostridioides difficile infections. These were the widely recognized problems in initially implementing the ASP. Although most HWs are aware of the importance of implementing the ASP (79.1%), the specific assessment has not been recorded clearly due to the numerous neutral responses. Despite the support of the leadership, the implementation still faces many difficulties and limitations, especially in 3rd and 4th class hospitals. Besides, there was a lack of wide dissemination of information on the ASP at each unit. To generalize the status of the ASP implementation, researchers should conduct qualitative and quantitative studies with a larger scale.
