The Czech Constitutional Court has gained a strong position within the political system. This article examines the judicial review of legislation from the point of view of the relation between the court and the parliament. The authors analyze trends in the use of petitions proposing the annulment of statutes, who makes use of the petitions, how successful the petitioners are, and what issues the petitions concern. The article pairs a quantitative view with a qualitative analysis of key selected decisions by the court, especially in the sphere of mega-politics. The authors test whether judicial review of legislation serves as a tool for parliamentary opposition. The results show the decisive effects of a legislative majority in the lower house of the parliament. If the government lacks a majority, the use of judicial review of legislation as an oppositional tool fades. Also important is the weakness of the upper house, which makes senators more likely to resort to using judicial review of legislation. An especially crucial factor is the presence of independent and semi-independent senators who, without broader political backing, see judicial review of legislation as a welcome tool. The most frequent topics of the petitions were transitional justice, social policy, and the legislative process.

This article aims to assess the degree of transfer of the original metaphorical image into a foreign language linguistic and cultural space and to identify the general patterns of translation of the author’s metaphor in a literary text. An attempt is made to determine the nature of the correlation between the transfer and the communicative-pragmatic effect of the conversion unit. The study uses a three-dimensional model of metaphor, which is a synthesis of the proper linguistic (language), mental (thought) and communicative aspects. The actual linguistic aspect means the logical and semantic structure of the metaphor. Understood as the general properties of an object and its reflection arising from the principle of similarity, the tenor, the vehicle and the ground are revealed. From the point of view of the mental aspect, the metaphor is considered as a universal cognitive mechanism for the nomination of the surrounding reality and the creation of artistic images. The communicative aspect includes the study of metaphor from the perspective of its functioning in speech — the pragmatic attitude of the speaker determined by the content and form of his statement is pointed out. The semantic equivalence of metaphors in the original text and in the translation text is established on the basis of the componential analysis. The results are classified according to two criteria: 1) the preservation of the principle of implicit metaphorical rethinking and 2) the identity of the meanings actualized during the renaming process, which allows to identify cases of the complete and the partial transfer of the metaphor and to describe the concomitant lexical and grammatical interlanguage transformations. The partial transfer is to be recognized as the most common phenomenon that takes place during the translation of the metaphorical expression. The impossibility of the complete transfer of the source metaphor is explained by both the features of the internal development of languages and the nature of the linguistic thinking of the two peoples. The absence of the metaphor in translation is considered as a factor that reduces the pragmatic equivalence of texts.

The article traces one of the lines of influence of the analytic philosophy of language on the humanities, in particular, on linguistics – the line that is associated with the perception of the concept of performativity and the corresponding view of language in studies of indirect communication. The distinction between illocutionary and perlocutionary speech act formulated by J. Austin is applied to the case of indirect communication, as a result of which it is concluded that the performative properties of language can manifest themselves not only in illocution, but also in perlocution. It is shown that many examples of indirect communication function like performatives – the concept of an indirect performative is introduced to denote them – and can be described from the point of view of a performative approach.

Within the recent marketing concept, providing customer satisfaction has become the major argument to sustain under fierce market competition from the perspective of restaurant entrepreneurs. To provide satisfaction, the ideal way is to meet the expectations of the customers. People with differentiated expectations and distinction of the characteristics are the factors, which make expectations difficult to find common ground. This also reveals the purpose of the study. The main objective of the study is to characterize the consumers with different expectations and experiences and to reveal how effective they are in the expectations of eating out. In that respect, a questionnaire survey was applied to 441 consumers, which were involved in food and beverage activities at 6 touristic restaurant entrepreneurs. As a consequence of the applied survey research, it is determined that the values and lifestyles of people have an effect on eating out expectations. The influences of consumer values and lifestyles on expectations have been demonstrated through certain variables. Therefore, it is thought that it will help food and beverage enterprises to analyse their target markets from this point of view and to maintain a more efficient business life by carrying out their activities such as establishment phases, service standards and marketing strategies.

This paper aims to analyse emblematic sources from the Golden Age of literature in High Medieval Iceland, such as Íslendingabók, from the point of view of the ideology of power, in order to compare the findings to those from other sources of the time. If in Norway towards the 13th century all power gravitated around the person of the King and the institution of the court, in Iceland the political situation from the assembly of the Alþingi in 930 up to the country’s annexation (1262) was wholly different, owing to the different political organization of the Old Icelandic Commonwealth (Þjóðveldið). The Icelandic political milieu has not been researched very extensively from the point of view of political ideology, as one of the pioneers of this approach, Jón Viðar Sigurðsson noted. There is much to be said on the subject of the worthiness of the Icelandic Family sagas as useful in describing the political ideology of power due to their role as both historical and literary sources. These skaldic texts were sponsored with specific purposes by rulers who understood how songs and stories could improve a leader’s position and prestige. As a similarity to the literature sponsored by the kings of Norway, the texts created in Iceland during the literary miracle of the Middle Ages had a greater importance for those chieftains who did not enjoy a strong position, who were either attempting to legitimate themselves as rulers of newly usurped positions, or who were threatened by stronger neighbouring rulers.

Abstract The great amount of support schemes that initially fueled the fast and often uncontrollable, renewable energy sources (RESs) growth have been strongly reduced or revoked in many countries. Currently, the general trend is to try to equate RESs to traditional power plants. From the energy market point of view, this entails exposing RESs to market competition and mechanics. For example, it could be requested that RESs submit a production schedule in advance and are financially responsible for any deviation from it. This could push the wind farm (WF) operators to make accurate forecasts, thus fostering the electric system resiliency and an efficient use of balancing resources. From the forecasting point of view, this is not a trivial problem since the schedule submission is often due 10–12 h before the actual delivery. Since forecast errors are unavoidable, the submitted schedule could turn out to be infeasible, thus forcing the WF to adopt correcting actions, which are generally costly. This study estimates the revenue reduction that would affect a WF operating in the energy market due to forecast errors. To do this in a realistic way, a case study is selected, and realistic forecast scenarios are generated by using a copula approach. Relevant forecast error features, like autocorrelation and dependency on forecasted power level and forecast lead time, are modeled. The revenue reduction due to balancing actions is calculated on an annual basis, by using typical days. These were derived through a clustering procedure based on production data. Losses ranging from 5% to 35% have been found, depending on the days and market prices. A sensitivity analysis to the costs of balancing actions is performed. The effect of different market architectures and different RESs penetration level is considered in the analysis. Finally, the effectiveness of two techniques (i.e., curtailment and batteries) to reduce forecast error impact in highly penalizing market environments is assessed.

Due to the growing interest of consumers in the consumption of fresh products with increased shelf life, producers must provide modern and safe packaging. This is a challenge for food packaging and acts as a driving force in the development of new and improved concepts of packaging technology. The article presents the essence, types and classification of packaging as a factor influencing the choice made by the consumer. In addition, the main attention was paid to the definition of knowledge and attitudes of consumers to this type of packaging used in the food market in the food industry. From the point of view of food consumers, the most important role of packaging is to ensure food safety throughout the logistics chain, from producer to consumer. Smart packaging is packaging that is equipped with features that allow it to track the goods through the logistics chain or control the internal and external environment of the packaging, as well as communicate with the consumer. Such packaging can not only control the quality and safety of the product, but also report its condition to a potential consumer or manufacturer. The advent of intelligent packaging systems has contributed to another important change in the existing perception of packaging, as it transforms the traditional communication function of packaging into an intelligent communication function. Another solution for innovative food packaging is active packaging. Active packaging is a system that, due to chemical, physical and biological actions, actively changes the conditions inside the packaging in order to extend the shelf life and preserve the original quality and sensory properties of food. In active packaging, the product, the environment and the packaging interact, thereby increasing product quality, shelf life and durability. Reasonable and active packaging, in addition to the function of protecting the product from the reaction of external factors and attracting the attention of the customer, is aimed at informing potential buyers about the condition and quality of goods and interaction with packaged foods
