The bioenergetic productivity of artificial pine stands is considered. It was found that in 30-year-old artificial pine coenoses, the lowest amount of energy associated with the tree layer is observed in the lichen type of growing conditions (443,1 GJ/ha), the highest — in the blueberry (1915,1 GJ/ha). Bioenergetic productivity occupies an intermediate position (1210,7 GJ/ha) in the cranberry-type forest culture phytocenoses. It is shown that the accumulated energy reaches the highest relative value in such a component of aboveground phytomass as trunk wood. For this fraction, the variation is observed from 50.2% in the lichen type of growing conditions to 65.8% in the blueberry type, based on the total stock of phytomass of forest crops. It is established that the secondary position relative to this indicator is occupied by woody greens. The share of the energy productivity of needles in the total aboveground phytomass decreases with the improvement of forest growing conditions. An approximately equal ratio of energy deposition in the studied types of artificial pine forests by the fractions of bark and live branches (7,2...11,7%) was determined, and the smallest share of accumulated energy falls on the fraction of dry branches (5,3...7,0 %).

The purpose of the article is to develop the standards for evaluating the trunk components of the aboveground phytomass of pine stands in the Northern Steppe of Ukraine. Methods of research. The method of collecting and processing the research material, developed by Professor P.I. Lakyda, was used in the presented paper. The statistical processing, correlation analysis and the search of regression dependences of phytomass components of the common pine trunk on the taxation indices of the tree stand were made.           The research results. The working data mass has been formed concerning the results of field and laboratory researches, which characterizes the components of the trunk phytomass for assessing biotic productivity of artificial pine stands in the Northern Steppe of Ukraine. Correlation analysis of the relation closeness of the main phytomass components of the tree stands with their basic taxational signs was carried out. A direct close relation of the trunk phytomass components in the bark and wood without bark with the average tree diameter and the height of stands has been established. The value of correlation coefficient of the bark phytomass with all taxational indices, except the density, demonstrates the moderate relation. Mathematical models have been developed and obtained to assess ordinary pine stands’ phytomass by the components of the trunk wood, trunk wood in the bark, and bark of the trunk. It has been determined that the increase of all the studied components of the aboveground trunk phytomass occurred together with increasing the average heights and diameters of tree stands. The elements of scientific novelty. Standard and information tables have constructed on the basis of regression models for the zone of the Northern Steppe of Ukraine. Practical significance. The obtained systems of standards enable to evaluate ecological and power resources and calculate the carbon sequestration in artificial pine tree stands of the studied region.

Wheat is a good source of carbohydrates for ruminants, and recent low prices in the UK suggest that usage is likely to increase. However, there is a shortage of information on the digestibility of wheat in the rumen. Such information is vital for predicting the relative value of wheat as a source of fermentable metabolisable energy or by-pass starch. Digestibility is likely to be affected by growing conditions and genetics. Genetic differences are found between wheat varieties, but comparisons of named varieties yield limited information because many characteristics vary simultaneously. This problem can be overcome by using near-isogenic lines of wheat that vary only in a limited number of known characteristics. The objective of this study was to determine the rumen digestion characteristics of different near-isogenic wheat lines grown under the same agronomic conditions.

The paper studies the content of culture and wild samples of flavonoids Pentaphylloides fruticosa (L.) O. Schwarz in the European North. On the territory of the Komi Republic P. fruticosa requires conservation measures. The species is used as an ornamental, medicinal, food, honey and forage plant. When determining the pool of flavonoids of vegetative parts of one-year shoots in the flowering phase, it was found that they were significantly higher in wild samples than in introduced ones. This suggests that geographical growing conditions should influence the amount of flavonoids. The difference in the amount of flavonoids in the flowers between the wild and introduction of the samples was found. There were no significant differences between the introduced samples in the leafing phase and in the flowering phase. In the phase of mass fruiting the amount of flavonoids was significantly higher in sample № 1, due to their different ecological and geographical origin. It is advisable to introduce the culture of these natural samples that grow in the northernmost location in Europe, which can be a promising source of raw flavonoids and their further study in new growing conditions.

The paper is devoted to the study of entomocomplex of stem pests, the number and biology of its dominant species and the ecological structure of the soil mesofauna of the two differing in composition and growing conditions, areas of wind pine forests-green insects. The main causes of windfalls, which are unfavorable soil and soil conditions and the defeat of trees by the root sponge, are established. The degree of participation of different types of feed substrate in the dynamics of the number of stem pests in the lesion is estimated. In addition to the windfall of trees, stem pests are the adjacent one, decreasing the resistance of pine in the walls of the forest, overmature trees or trees weakened by anthropogenic, standing trees, the trunks of which are damaged by windfall to a lesser extent than the remaining standing part of inboard of broken trunks. We identified eight species of entomophagous parasitic on the grubs of Longhorn beetles and jewel beetles. It is noted that the population of ground beetles, in windswept areas studied, is characterized by a decrease in species diversity, a decrease in the number of moisture-loving species typical of pine forests of the Eastern Moscow region, a change in the spectrum of life forms in the direction of reducing litter species and increasing the proportion of litter-soil.

AbstractScots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) is the most spread forest tree species in Polissya and the most damaged by foliage browsing and stem insects. The aim of this study was to reveal the changes in the distribution of different forest site conditions for 2010–2019 in Scots pine forests of the selected forestry enterprises of Polissya and possible consequences for the spread of foliage browsing insects. Database of Production Association ‘Ukrderzhlisproekt’ (by 2010 and 2019) was analysed for five State Forest Enterprises (FE) that are located in the Central (Zhytomyr Region) and Western (Rivne and Volyn Regions) Polissya, where the large scale outbreaks of stem pests were registered last decade. The types of forest site conditions were designated in accordance with the Ukrainian typology. Distribution of the forest area by trophotops and hygrotops was evaluated for the forest-covered area, for Scots pine stands, and for pure Scots pine stands in 2010 and in 2019.For 2010–2019, the area of all Scots pine forests and its proportion in the forest-covered area has significantly decreased in the most of analysed forest enterprises. The change for 2010–2019 in the distribution both by the tropho-tops and by hygrotops of the entire forest-covered area, the area of all Scots pine forests and pure pine forests is not statistically significant. However, in assessment year 2019, the proportion of stands in the moist types of forest site conditions slightly increased. It may be the result of the stands’ mortality in the driest sites after an outbreak of bark beetles. A greater decrease in the proportion of Scots pine forest area in the dry poor, fresh poor, and dry relatively poor forest site conditions was found in the western direction. Therefore, the noted decrease in the foci areas of foliage browsing insects in Polissya in 2010–2012 compared to the 2000–2002 could be associated with a decrease in the most preferred stands, namely the poorest and driest types of forest site conditions.

The territory of large cities is increasing, larger areas of biogeocenoses are used for the construction of linear objects (urban infrastructure). This leads to an increase of the load on the ecosystems of surrounding areas. The most significant linear object of the city of St. Petersburg is the Ring Road. The construction and operation of the Ring Road leads to the disruption of the links between the components of biogeocenoses and to changes in biogeocenoses themselves. In this paper the influence of the Ring Road of St. Petersburg on the component of biogeocenosis – pine stands was studied. The quantitative indicator of pine stands growth is radial increment. Parameters of radial increment reflect the quality of growing conditions. The influence of position of the Ring Road and climatic conditions on the radial increments of pine stands was taken into account. The correlation analysis revealed a significant reliable relationship between the radial increments of the pine stands of site 3 and the average temperature over the vegetation period by 25%. Also, the correlation analysis revealed a significant reliable relationship between the radial increments of the stands of site 6 and the total amount of precipitation temperature over the vegetation period by 30%. Single-factor analysis of variance showed that the influence of the Ring Road on the growth of pine stands of underflooded sites 5 and 6 is reliable and is 38 and 30%, respectively, of all external factors affecting the growth of stands. The Ring Road was built with the construction technology infringement. The road embankment works as a dam on the way of soil water and groundwater. The obtained results confirm the reliable influence of the Ring Road on the growth of pine stands. The most significant deviation of the increments of stands was on underflooded sites with disturbed water and air conditions.

The process of post-fire recovery in mixed Siberian spruce–Scots pine forests (Picea obovata Ledeb.-Pinus sylvestris L.), typical for the European North-West, was studied in the Kola peninsula (Russia). We used the spatial–temporal approach to reveal the size structure (diameter at breast height (DBH) distribution) and vital state of Siberian spruce and Scots pine stands, tree regeneration and species structure of the dwarf shrub–herb and lichen–moss layers at different stages of post-fire succession (8–380 years after the fire). It was found that in both forest-forming species, the process of stand stratification results in the allocation of two size groups of trees. In Siberian spruce, these groups persist throughout the succession. In Scots pine, DBH distributions become more homogeneous at the middle of succession (150–200 years after the fire) due to the extinction of small-size individuals. Siberian spruce stands are dominated by moderately and strongly weakened trees at all succession stages. The vitality status of Scots pine stands is higher compared to Siberian spruce up to 150 years after a fire. The dynamics of regeneration activity is similar in both species, with a minimum at the middle of the restoration period. The results indicate that in Siberian spruce–Scots pine forests, the stand structure and regeneration activity differs substantially in the first half of succession (up to 200 years after the fire) and become similar in the late-succession community. The study of lower layers revealed that the cover of moss–lichen and dwarf shrub–herb layers stabilize 150 years after a fire. Changes in species structure in both layers are observed until the late stage of succession. The originality of the structure and dynamics of mixed Siberian spruce–Scots pine forests is revealed based on a comparison with pure Siberian spruce forests in the same region.
