Gender differences in the function of thyroid gland in the dynamics of the growth of transplantable B16/F10 melanoma in mice

Skin melanoma is the one of the most aggressive malignant tumors with an unpredictable course. Rapid proliferation and high metastatic potential can be caused by a high neuroendocrine activity. The thyroid gland discharges a wide range of functions in the body, by regulating metabolism, participating in adaptation and anti-tumor protection and influencing proliferation, angiogenesis and migration of cells. The study of thyroid activity and local saturation of the skin, tumor and surrounding tissues with thyroid hormones in the dynamics of the growth of experimental В16/F10 melanoma in mice of both genders revealed gender differences in thyroid homeostasis. Females showed the syndrome of low thyroid hormone levels - so-called «low T3/low T4» - diagnosed by the level of fractions of free hormone with the deterioration in correlationships between the level of peripheral hormones and TSH. Over the growth of melanoma in males there was developed severe hypothyroidism, not controlled by the higher regulating structures, accompanied by the synthesis and/or capture of thyroxine into the tumor. Saturation of the tumor tissue with thyroxine correlated with the gender and survival of animals. The revealed differences in thyroid status should be taken into account during the treatment patients with melanoma.

Disturbance of the thyroid function is often detected in patients with different profiles. A special feature of patients with chronic kidney  disease is the higher incidence of various thyroid function  disturbances, especially hypothyroidism. It is known that in patients  with chronic kidney disease (CKD) iodine excretion from the body is  violated, since normally 90% of iodine is excreted in urine.  Accumulation of high concentrations of inorganic iodine leads to the  formation of the Wolf-Chaikoff effect: suppression of iodine  organization in the thyroid gland and disruption of the thyroid  hormones synthesis. Peripheral metabolism of thyroid hormones is  also disturbed, namely, deiodinase type I activity is suppressed and  peripheral conversion of T4 into T3 is inhibited (so-called low T3  syndrome). Therefore, patients with CKD are often diagnosed with  hypothyroidism, and the origin of hypothyroidism is not always  associated with the outcome of autoimmune thyroiditis. The article  presents an overview of a large number of population studies of  thyroid gland dysfunction in patients with CKD, as well as  experimental data specifying the pathogenetic mechanisms of  thyroid dysfunction in patients with CKD. Therapeutic tactics are still  not regulated. However, in a number of studies, replacement therapy with thyroid hormones in patients with CKD had some advantages.

Nowadays the radiolabeled microspheres are established tools for radioembolization of primary and metastatic liver cancer. Human serum albumin microspheres (HSA) are unique carriers for selective and controlled radionuclide delivery to malignant tumors. Rhenium-188 (Re-188), which decays with beta particles (2.12 MeV (71.1%) and 1.965 MeV (25.6%) and gamma emission (155 keV (15.1%)) is one of the most available and promising generator-based radionuclide for cancer therapy. The purpose of this work was to study the biodistribution of microspheres based on hu-man serum albumin labeled with Re-188 (Re-188-HSA) in animals after different routes of admin-istration. The size of more than 95% of microspheres was 10-20 μm. The studies were carried out on outbred white mice and inbred C57BL/6 mice with transplanted Lewis adenocarcinoma after intravenous, intramuscular and intratumoral administration. After intravenous injection the high-est amount of Re-188-HSA in organs and tissues was observed: up to 311.3%/g in lungs, up to 74.30%/g in thyroid gland, up to 12.70%/g in liver, up to 0,81%/g in blood. After the intramuscular injection of 188Re-HSA, the concentration of 188Re-HSA in organs and tissues was significantly lower and did not exceed 1%/g, except for thyroid gland (1,10-17.80%/g). After intratumoral injec-tion the amount of Re-188-HSA in tumor varied from 16.7 to 26.8%/g, that was higher as compared with other organs and tissues. Thus, the routes of Re-188-HSA administration significantly affect its behavior in the body. The obtained results can be used to evaluate the Re-188-HSA potential for radionuclide tumor therapy after intravascular or intratumoral administration.

Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) or Von Recklinghausen's disease is a dominantly inherited genetic, multisystem disorder. Individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 are prone to develop benign and malignant tumors of the CNS and peripheral nervous system, in addition to malignant diseases affecting other parts of the body. About 50% of individuals with neurofibromatosis type 1 have no family history of the disease and the disease is due to de novo (spontaneous) mutations. Early diagnosis is challenging because of its extremely variable characteristics. Some individuals may be mildly affected showing minimal signs, whereas others are severely afflicted. Individuals with NF-1 are best cared for within a multidisciplinary clinic, which has access to a wide range of subspecialists. The dermatologist has a role not only in the diagnosis of NF1 and differentiating it from other similar disorders, but also in the recognition of rare associated skin manifestations.

Metastasis includes the dissemination of cancer cells from a malignant tumor and seed in distant sites inside the body forming secondary tumors. Metastatic cells from the primary tumor can move even before the cancer is detected. Therefore, metastases are responsible for more than 90% of cancer-related deaths. Over recent decades there has been adequate evidence suggesting the existence of CSCs with self-renewing and drug-resistant potency within heterogeneous tumors. Cancer stem cells (CSCs) act as a tumor initiating cells and have roles in tumor retrieve and metastasis. Our group recently developed a unique CSC model from mouse induced pluripotent stem cells cultured in the presence of cancer cell-conditioned medium that mimics tumors microenvironment. Using this model, we demonstrated a new method for studying metastasis by intraperitoneal transplantation of tumors and investigate the metastasis ability of cells from these segments. First of all, CSCs were injected subcutaneously in nude mice. The developed malignant tumors were minimized then transplanted into the peritoneal cavity. Following this, the developed tumor in addition to lung, pancreas and liver were then excised and analyzed. Our method showed the metastatic potential of CSCs with the ability of disseminated and moving to blood circulation and seeding in distant organs such as lung and pancreas. This method could provide a good model to study the mechanisms of metastasis according to CSC theory.

Free-living birds have a wide range of habitats, can be present in the wild, near human homes, livestock and poultry complexes, farms. As a result of migration and migration of birds, the probability of spreading infectious diseases increases. In the body of birds, the pathogen can persist, multiply, be released into the external environment, and then enter the body of a healthy animal or bird, becoming the cause of new cases of the disease. Detection of pathogenic microflora in the body of free-living birds, determination of their biochemical activity is one of the aspects of studying pathogens in the parasitic phase of existence. The identification of biologically active bacteria allows us to predict the probability of free-living poultry participating in the epizootic process, and to plan appropriate preventive measures in poultry and animal husbandry. The purpose of the study is to study the species composition and biochemical activity of the microflora of the free-living birds of the Amur region. For research on the territory of the Amur region, impregnations from beaks and cloaks. The study identified such microorganisms as Enterococcus, Pseudomonas, Acinetobacter, Citrobacter, Actinobacillus, Escherichia, Micrococcus, Aspergillus, Enterobacter, Salmonella, Proteus, and Staphylococcus. Biochemical activity was detected in microorganisms of Enterococcus faecalis, Acinetobacter iwoffi, Actinobacillus species, Enterobacter aecum, Staphуlococcus кloossi, Staphуlococcus hуicus, Staphуlococcus aureus, Staphуlococcus epidermidis, and Staphylococcus saprophуticus. Enzymatic properties of Pseudomonas aeruginosa (6.8%), Pseudomonas species (6.4%), and Micrococcus candidus (1.2%) had weakly expressed enzymatic properties.

Abstract: ‘Automation is the key in reducing the repetitive and banal tasks of everyday life’, the oft-quoted aphorism best portrays our effort at making a humanoid hand for tasks that require dexterity of fingers in situations where time and effort are of importance. The cost of human labor, quality of processes or products, time, and safety make this project a need of the hour. The research paper showcases our efforts of making a humanoid robotic arm. The body of the arm is composed of 3D printed parts. Servo Motors with nylon strings were used to control the fingers and the wrist. InMoov Nervo Board was used to control the servos. Worm Gear Mechanism was implemented to control the bicep movement and Worm Wheel is used for shoulder rotation. Machines can perform a wide range of functions without a considerable amount of human intervention. The future scope of Robotics and Automation would be to make a diverse and positive impact in industrial as well as research applications. This article explores how the Nahua of late Postclassic Mesoamerica (1200–1521 CE) created living and material embodiments of their wind god constructed on the basis of sensory experiences that shaped their conception of this divinized meteorological phenomenon. In this process, they employed chromatic and design devices, based on a wide range of natural elements, to add several layers of meaning to the human, painted, and sculpted supports dressed in the god’s insignia. Through a comparative examination of pre-Columbian visual production—especially codices and sculptures—historical sources mainly written in Nahuatl during the viceregal period, and ethnographic data on indigenous communities in modern Mexico, my analysis targets the body paint and shell jewelry of the anthropomorphic “images” of the wind god, along with the Feathered Serpent and the monkey-inspired embodiments of the deity. This study identifies the centrality of other human senses beyond sight in the conception of the wind god and the making of its earthly manifestations. Constructing these deity “images” was tantamount to creating the wind because they were intended to be visual replicas of the wind’s natural behavior. At the same time, they referred to the identity and agency of the wind god in myths and rituals.

This article presents a clinical case demonsratinga high metastatic potential of clear cell renal cell carcinoma combined with atypical metastases to breast and paranasal sinuses. The prevalence of metastatic lesions to the breast and paranasal sinuses in various malignant tumors depending on their morphological forms is analyzed. The authors present an analysis of data published for the last 30 years. The optimal diagnostic algorithms to detect the progression of renal cell carcinoma and to evaluate the effectiveness of the treatment are considered.

Introduction. To date, age and sex differences have been established for many biochemical parameters. Gender differences in indicators for systems such as antioxidant, thiol-disulfide, oxidative stress and inflammation systems are absent or under study.The aim of the study was to identify gender differences in biochemical parameters reflecting the functioning of antioxidant systems of the body and free radical oxidation in workers of metallurgical production, in contact with harmful production factors.Materials and methods. The blood of men and women working at the metallurgical enterprise of the Nizhny Novgorod region (n=80) under the influence of a complex of physical and chemical production factors was studied. Total oxidative stress, total antioxidant capacity of serum, glutathione levels were studied by photometric biochemical methods. Levels of C-reactive protein and 8-hydroxy–2-deoxyguanosine were studied by ELISA.Results. The average amount of peroxides in the serum of women exceeded 1.6 times this figure in men. In the group of men, the content of 8-Ondg was higher by 26% (p=0.012), the level of GS-by 12% (p=0.019), the activity of SOD — by 1.5–2 times (p=0.0001), the level of CRP — by 2 times (p=0.008) compared to similar indicators in women.Conclusions. Studies of gender differences in workers under the influence of harmful production factors will allow more effective approach to the etiology, treatment and prognosis of production-related diseases. Indicators of oxidative stress and antioxidant protection can be indicators of the health of workers under the influence of harmful industrial factors and be important in the prevention of diseases associated with oxidative stress.
