The development of food processing technology has increased the number and types of food products to meet human needs. The quality of a food product is not only seen from nutritional value and safety, but also from halalness aspect. For the purposes of quality control and halal authentication, the existence of a food testing method that is fast, accurate and easy to handling is needed. The application of electronic nose for various volatile compound detection purposes has been widely reported. This paper discusses electronic nose applications for quality control and halal testing purposes on food products. Furthermore, it also discussed the advantages and disadvantages of testing with an electronic nose. Based on the discussion, the electronic nose is a portable detection tool that is user friendly, fast and accurate for the identification and detection of food products based on the presence of the aroma of volatile compounds in the material. The advantages of this electronic nose have the potential to be used as an alternative rapid detection instrument in food testing, especially in authenticating pork and pig derivative.

The current study uses the electronic nose FOX 4000 to inspect Xinyang Maojian tea in three quality levels. Principal component analysis (PCA) and statistical quality control (SQC) are adopted to analyze and recognize the data. PCA shows that there is a certain difference in the odor of the tea samples in the three quality levels. PCA can evidently distinguish three kinds of samples. SQC analysis shows that X800 and X600 are located outside the controllable range, indicating that they differ from X1200 in odor. This result is consistent with the PCA result. The study shows that electronic nose technology is expected to be applied widely in the rapid detection of tea.

The article discusses the definition and mechanism of IgE‑mediated food allergy, provides an overview of the legal regulation of the production and labeling of allergen-containing food products. In order to prevent the inadvertent appearance of allergens in products during their production, an allergenomics procedure is required — a comprehensive assessment of the allergic potential of a food product: allergenicity of product ingredients, risk analysis, and the procedure for managing allergens in the production.

Abstract Objective: Previous studies from European countries noted that food products promoted on TV for children did not comply with international guidelines, including the World Health Organization European Nutrient Profile Model (WHO-ENPM) and the EU Pledge Nutrition Criteria (EU-PNC, an initiative developed by leading food companies). We aim to provide new data from Italy. Design: Evaluation of Italian TV advertisements. Data on nutritional values for food product advertised were compared with nutritional standards issued by the WHO-ENPM and the EU-PNC. Setting: In total, 180 h of TV programmes from six Italian channels, 2016–2017. Participants: Eight hundred and ten consecutive advertisements during children’s programmes. Results: Out of 810 advertisements, 90 (11·1 %) referred to food products. Among these, 84·5 % of the foods promoted did not meet the WHO-ENPM and 55·6 % the EU-PNC guidelines. Advertisements promoting sweet and salty snacks (i.e. ≥ 70 % of all foods) v. other food products showed higher non-compliance with both the WHO-ENPM (OR: 73·8; 95 % CI: 4·09, 1330) and the EU-PNC (OR: 9·21; 95 % CI: 2·82, 30·1). Conclusions: In Italy, most food advertisements during children’s programmes are not compliant with European nutritional standards. Almost all the advertisements for snacks do not meet international guidelines. As the WHO-ENPM guidelines do not propose standards for all the food products, including meals, there is an urgent need to define independent and easy-to-read guidelines for food advertisements targeting children. As a first step towards the complete ban of food advertisements targeting children recommended by other researchers, these guidelines should be enforced by all the TV broadcasts.

Abstract Several technical difficulties diminish the usefulness of serum triglyceride estimation by the method of Stone and Thorp [Clin. Chim. Acta 14, 812 (1966)]. An artificial and somewhat unstable material is used in the standardization. Falsely elevated readings caused by scratched cuvettes are a frequent problem. Conventional quality-control procedures cannot be used because stable preparations are not available. Specimen stability is a greater problem than with conventional chemical methods. In spite of these difficulties, the method can be useful, if its limitations are recognized, in measurements made on nonfasting individuals.

With regards to the quality problem of concrete that cant be found out earlier in the quality control, this paper discussed the principle to rapidly detect composition of concrete mixture and analyzed the measurement accuracy of water checker for fresh concrete through laboratory test. Experiments showed that the error in unit cement and unit water measured by instruments is relatively small and able to meet the accuracy requirements. And, the application of rapid detection techniques to the concrete quality control in practical engineering has achieved good results.

The aim of the present study was the implementation of molecular techniques in the detection and quantification of allergic substances of peanut in various kinds of food products, e.g., breakfast cereals, chocolates and biscuits that are frequently related to allergies. In some cases, the presence of peanuts can be due to contamination during production and are not declared on the label. A total of 152 samples were collected from supermarkets and were analysed by a Real Time PCR method. The results indicated that 125 samples (83,3%) were found positive in peanut traces but the most important finding is that from the 84 samples that had no allergen declaration for peanuts, 48 (57,1%) of them were found positive. In conclusion, Real Time PCR can be a very important tool for the rapid detection and quantification of food allergens.
