This study uses a qualitative (non-positivistic) approach with this type of research focusing on systematic exploratory research of a pandemic covid-19 phenomenon and using descriptive analysis techniques and anticipatory condensation data from remote and agility audits. The method of data collection is carried out by interviews, observations and documentation with purposive sampling as a method of selecting research sources. Source triangulation and triangulation techniques are selected by researchers to ensure the validity of the data. The research sources are external and internal auditors from KAP leading in Indonesia and are foreign affiliated audit firm and internal auditors from companies that implement internal control of 5 people. Fraud relates to fraudulent acts committed deliberately through bank facilities and resulting in losses. Although the role of the audit committee has been established, Good Corporate Governance has generally been well implemented, and has carried out a fairly good internal control function through the Whistleblowing System, the fulfillment of these components has not significantly been able to overcome fraud. Such an interesting condition to be related to the theory of Rezaae and Ajeng Wind. This study is intended to examine the effect of the audit committee, Good Corporate Governance, and the Whistleblowing System on fraud either partially or simultaneously. Sharia Commercial Banks for the period 2016-2019 in Indonesia were selected as the population using saturated sampling techniques, there are 14 Islamic Commercial Banks with 56 units of analysis used in this study. Ordinal logistic regression model was chosen as an analysis technique with SPSS 21 software as an analysis tool. The results of this study indicate that the variable composition of the independent audit committee, tenure of the audit committee and good corporate governance has a significant negative relationship to fraud. Meanwhile, the audit committee meeting variables and the Whistleblowing System have a negative and insignificant effect on fraud. The independent variable composition of the audit committee, audit committee meetings, tenure of the audit committee, Good Corporate Governance, and the Whistleblowing System is able to explain the variation of fraud by 29% while the remaining 71% is explained by other variables outside the research model. The low level of influence may be due to the inadequate follow-up of the audit committee meetings and the lack of independence of the internal auditors in managing fraud reports. So that Sharia Commercial Banks must optimize the function of the anti-fraud division and present the division in holding meetings, as well as increase the independence of the internal auditors in managing reports of suspected fraud that are submitted through the Whistleblowing System.

The need for effective board management and good corporate performance lies at the heart of good corporate governance theory because as the agency theory contends the managers’ interest and the interest of shareholders are not almost always the same. Good corporate performance is the basis of the business as reflected through enhanced shareholder value measured by return on investment, return on assets or return on equity. Effective board management necessary for good corporate performance requires significant dose of emotional intelligence competencies such as integrity, transparency and loyalty. Such will ensure that the board of directors exercises internal control through effective monitoring roles aimed at protecting shareholders’ interest as contemplated by the principles of good corporate governance. Ninety seven individuals participated in the study conducted through the exploratory research design. Data were analyzed through descriptive and regression statistical techniques and it was found that effective board management has significant positive correlation with good corporate performance. There is need for more understanding in this area, therefore further study could examine the relationship between corporate fraud and incessant bank failures in Nigeria despite various regulatory interventions. Consequent on the result of this study, it was suggested that the appointment of members of the board of directors of public liability companies in Nigeria must not be done without consideration to relevant experience.

Purpose The purpose of this study is to examine the effects of internal audit function (IAF) quality on the operational efficiency of Chinese firms. Design/methodology/approach The authors use regression models with a sample of Chinese listed companies to test their research hypotheses. Findings The authors find that IAF quality is positively associated with firm operational efficiency. The result is unchanged after correcting for endogeneity via the instrumental variable method and using an alternative measure of firm operational efficiency. The authors show that IAF competence improves firm operational efficiency, but the relationship between IAF independence and firm operational efficiency is insignificant. Additionally, they find that IAF quality can only significantly improve firm operational efficiency in the presence of effective corporate governance at the firm level and strong institutions at the province level. Using path analysis, the authors find that an IAF can improve firm operational efficiency directly or indirectly by promoting firm internal control quality. Practical implications The findings of this study suggest the need for a balance between IAF competence and independence to achieve the goals of IAF. Additionally, the authors study suggests that the effectiveness of IAF is contingent on corporate governance and market-based institutions. Originality/value The study’s findings contribute to the burgeoning literature on the relationship between IAF and firm operational performance and deepen the authors’ understanding of the role of IAF in an emerging economy whose government plays a major role in promoting and enforcing internal audits. The study also empirically support the Internal Audit Governance Maturity Model proposed by the Institute of Internal Auditors.
