Abstract In this study, a method was developed to address the automated guided vehicle (AGV) transportation scheduling problem. For deliveries in factories and warehouses, it is necessary to quickly plan a feasible transportation schedule without delay within a specified time. This study focused on obtaining a transport schedule without delay from the specified time while maintaining the search for a better solution during the execution of the transport task. Accordingly, a method was developed for constructing a solution with a two-dimensional array of delivery tasks for each AGV, arranged in the order in which they are executed, as well as for searching for a schedule by performing exchange and insertion operations. For the exchange and insertion, a method that considers the connectivity between the end point of a task and the start point of the next task was adopted. To verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, numerical simulations were performed assuming an actual transportation task.

Abstract The connection between production scheduling and transportation scheduling is getting closer in smart manufacturing system, both of which are summarized as NP-hard problems. However, only a few studies have considered them simultaneously. This paper studies the integrated production and transportation scheduling problem (IPTSP) in hybrid flow shop, which is an extension of the hybrid flow shop scheduling problem (HFSP). In this problem, the transfer tasks of jobs are performed by a certain number of automated guided vehicles (AGV). In addition to the production scheduling on machines, we consider the transportation scheduling on AGVs as the part of the optimization process. To solve it, we make some preparation (including the establishment of task pool, the new solution representation and the new solution evaluation), which can help algorithm efficiently find satisfactory solutions while appropriately limiting the search space. Then, an effective genetic tabu search algorithm is used to minimize the makespan. Finally, two groups of instances are designed and three types of experiments are conducted to evaluate the performance of proposed method. The results show that the proposed method can achieve good results, showing the effectiveness of the presented approach.

The definition of “normal” stars in spectral classification changes with time; at the time of the publication of theYerkes Spectral Atlasthe term “normal” was applied to stars whose spectra could be fitted smoothly into a two-dimensional array. Thus, at that time, weak-lined spectra (RR Lyrae and HD 140283) would have been considered peculiar. At the present time we would tend to classify such spectra as “normal”—in a more complicated classification scheme which would have a parameter varying with metallic-line intensity within a specific spectral subdivision.

AbstractFunction elements (FE) are vital components of nanochannel-systems for artificially regulating ion transport. Conventionally, the FE at inner wall (FEIW) of nanochannel−systems are of concern owing to their recognized effect on the compression of ionic passageways. However, their properties are inexplicit or generally presumed from the properties of the FE at outer surface (FEOS), which will bring potential errors. Here, we show that the FEOS independently regulate ion transport in a nanochannel−system without FEIW. The numerical simulations, assigned the measured parameters of FEOS to the Poisson and Nernst-Planck (PNP) equations, are well fitted with the experiments, indicating the generally explicit regulating-ion-transport accomplished by FEOS without FEIW. Meanwhile, the FEOS fulfill the key features of the pervious nanochannel systems on regulating-ion-transport in osmotic energy conversion devices and biosensors, and show advantages to (1) promote power density through concentrating FE at outer surface, bringing increase of ionic selectivity but no obvious change in internal resistance; (2) accommodate probes or targets with size beyond the diameter of nanochannels. Nanochannel-systems with only FEOS of explicit properties provide a quantitative platform for studying substrate transport phenomena through nanoconfined space, including nanopores, nanochannels, nanopipettes, porous membranes and two-dimensional channels.

Language theoretic public key cryptosystems for strings and pictures are discussed. Two methods of constructing public key cryptosystems for the safe transmission or storage of chain code pictures are presented; the first one encrypts a chain code picture as a string and the second one as a two-dimensional array.
