Subungual melanoma is a rare malignant tumor, little known to practitioners. Its location makes diagnosis difficult and requires differentiation with conditions such as onychomycosis, panaritium, hematoma, etc. Unsymptomatic onset brings more problems, the error level during visual examination even among experienced oncologists reaches 25–40%, and the average life expectancy of patients with fully manifested melanoma is limited to 3–4 years.So we present a clinical case to emphasize the need for oncological alertness during an outpatient examination of the subungual lesions. A 32-year-old woman came to the reception complaining of a non-healing bleeding, relatively painless wound of the left little toe. The condition was associated with trauma, for about a month she treated the wound herself, “cauterizing” it with antiseptics.After outpatient treatment of a granulating wound, the material was sent for histological diagnosis, which showed the presence of pigmentless melanoma in the stage of active growth. The woman was urgently hospitalized in the oncology department, where 5th finger exarticulation and inguinal-iliac lymphadenectomy were performed successfully. After this, the condition remained stable, but 14 months later there was a formation in the area of the postoperative scar. A study of a new surgical material confirmed the recurrence of malignant melanoma with Clark invasion level 2.In our opinion, outpatient surgeons should not delay histological examination for all ulcerative and granulomatous lesions of the feet, which will improve the differential diagnosis.

Neurodegenerative diseases are sociosanitary challenges of today, as a result of increased average life expectancy, with Alzheimer’s disease being one of the most prevalent. This pathology is characterized by brain impairment linked to a neurodegenerative process culminating in cognitive decline and behavioral disorders. Though the etiology of this pathology is still unknown, it is usually associated with the appearance of senile plaques and neurofibrillary tangles. The most used prophylaxis relies on anticholinesterase drugs and NMDA receptor antagonists, whose main action is to relieve symptoms and not to treat or prevent the disease. Currently, the scientific community is gathering efforts to disclose new natural compounds effective against Alzheimer’s disease and other neurodegenerative pathologies. Marine natural products have been shown to be promising candidates, and some have been proven to exert a high neuroprotection effect, constituting a large reservoir of potential drugs and nutraceutical agents. The present article attempts to describe the processes of extraction and isolation of bioactive compounds derived from sponges, algae, marine bacteria, invertebrates, crustaceans, and tunicates as drug candidates against AD, with a focus on the success of pharmacological activity in the process of finding new and effective drug compounds.

The article presents the relevance of the problem, defines the research purpose: to compare the average life expectancy of the population in the areas of the Tula region with different contents of heavy metals in the class of causes of death “Respiratory diseases ”. The authors used the data of the regional mortality register, the results of analyzes of the content of heavy metals (copper, lead, zinc, nickel) in the soil by atomic absorption spectroscopy, and the calculation of the average life expectancy by the algebraic model of constructive logic. The results indicate a decrease in average life expectancy due to the presence of heavy metals in the soil, but the average life expectancy in both contaminated and non-contaminated areas is gradually increasing.

The article presents data on the assessment of some issues of the ontogenesis of the bird cherryoat aphid: the average life expectancy, the number of offspring over a lifetime, the beginning of the reproductive period, the end of the reproductive period, the duration of the reproductive period, the life span of aphids and the number of offspring. The author found that the average life expectancy of animals was 21.55 days. The beginning of the reproductive period, on average, was on days 7–8, the end – on day 19. The average duration of the reproductive period was 12.5 days. The average number of offspring over the entire life for individuals in the sample was 34 nymphs, in a separate litter – 2–3 nymphs.

Relevance. As the prevention and treatment of diseases improves, the average life expectancy of the population increases. For many of our contemporaries, a third of their lives are postmenopausal. Menopause-related health problems are increasingly common and require the attention of healthcare professionals. Aim. To raise awareness of gynecologists, urologists and other specialists about the medico-social significance of the problems of women in the menopausal period based on the analysis of literature sources and analysis of clinical cases. Materials and methods. To write this review, a search was carried out for domestic and foreign publications in Russian and international search systems (PubMed, eLibrary, etc.) over the past 20 years. The review included articles from the peer-reviewed literature. An analysis of 2 clinical cases with comorbid pathology in menopausal patients is presented. Results. The review presents data on age-related physiological changes and quality of life in menopausal women. The analysis of 2 clinical cases of the appointment of menopausal hormone therapy in patients with comorbid diseases was carried out. Conclusions. The importance of awareness of outpatient doctors in the diagnosis and management tactics of patients with comorbid diseases in menopause is emphasized.

Abstract Objective: According to the WHO coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation report 35, as of 24 th February 2020, there was a total of 77,262 confirmed COVID-19 cases in China. That included 2,595 deaths. The specific objective of this study was to estimate the fiscal value of human lives lost due to COVID-19 in China as of 24 th February 2020. Results: The deaths from COVID-19 had a discounted (at 3%) total fiscal value of Int$ 924,346,795 in China. Out of which, 63.2% was borne by people aged 25-49 years, 27.8% by people aged 50-64 years, and 9.0% by people aged 65 years and above. The average fiscal value per death was Int$ 356,203. Re-estimation of the economic model alternately with 5% and 10 discount rates led to a reduction in the expected total fiscal value by 21.3% and 50.4%, respectively. Furthermore, the re-estimation of the economic model using the world’s highest average life expectancy of 87.1 years (which is that of Japanese females), instead of the national life expectancy of 76.4 years, increased the total fiscal value by Int$ 229,456,430 (24.8%).

Abstract GBM (Glioblastoma) is the most common, malignant type of primary brain tumor. It has a dismal prognosis, with an average life expectancy of less than 15 months. A better understanding of the tumor biology of GBM has been achieved in the past decade and set up new directions in the multimodal therapy by targeting the molecular paths involved in tumor initiation and progression. Invasion is a hallmark of GBM, and targeting the complex invasive mechanism of the tumor is mandatory in order to achieve a satisfactory result in GBM therapy. The goal of this review is to describe the tumor biology and key features of GBM and to provide an up-to-date overview of the current identified molecular alterations involved both in tumorigenesis and tumor progression.

The work is devoted to the 10th–13th-century paleodemographic data regarding the city of Chernigov and its districts, and to their introduction into the scientific domain. The study is based on the data on the anthropological series of Chernigov in the 10th–13th centuries, divided into three samples according to the topographic principle. This series is characterized by a low average life expectancy in comparison to other southern Old Rus cities. The feature of the necropolises of Chernigov indicating the predominance of female burials over male ones, revealed in the 1980s, has been confirmed at a new level. A study of the demographic parameters of the Chernigov population groups in the 10th–13th centuries, united on a territorial basis, has shown differences in their structure, probably reflecting the peculiarities of the life quality, social status, and professional specialization of the population of different parts of the city. Further research into the remains of the city’s population with methods of paleopathology, osteometry, osteoscopy, radiology, etc., as well as the analysis of aspects of the political history of the region, would help shed light on the possible causes of the identified features of the demographic structure of the population in the pre-Mongolian period.
