Replacement of Congenitally Missing Bilateral Maxillary Canines with Dental Implants: A Rare Case Report and Mini Review

Introduction: Maxillary canines play strategic roles in maintaining the normal function and visibility of teeth. However, rare cases of bilateral permanent congenitally missing maxillary canines were occurring. Replacing these missing canines with dental implant prostheses is an optimal treatment plan for aesthetics and functions. Case Report: In this case report, we described the replacement of bilateral maxillary canines with osseointegrated implants to support all-ceramic prostheses for a young female patient. This treatment avoids the conventional preparation of adjacent teeth as a part of prosthetic reconstructions. In addition to that, all-ceramic crowns are biocompatible with oral cavity structures. Conclusion: The stable short-term result has been achieved with the replacement of the bilateral congenitally missed canines with an implant and cemented all-ceramic crowns, with 3-years cumulative success rate.

AbstractHypodontia is the congenital absence of less than six teeth because of agenesis. Congenital absence of tooth (hypodontia) from the dental arch, may occur with any tooth, most commonly being third molars, however, absence of permanent mandibular canine is rare. The absence of teeth may be unilateral or bilateral. There are reports showing unilateral occurrence of permanent mandibular canines but agenesis of bilateral mandibular canines is not well documented in the literature and comprehensive review of literature shows paucity of data pertaining to this anomaly. Here we report one such rare case of congenitally missing mandibular permanent canines bilaterally.

Endometrial stromal sarcoma (ESS) is a rare and challenging type of endometrial tumor, constituting only about 0.2% of all uterine malignancies and occurring in women 42–58 years of age. ESS is usually misdiagnosed as leiomyoma. They both have nonspecific symptoms, which makes the diagnosis of ESS difficult to achieve. As the ESS is infrequently encountered, optimal management is quite debatable. Here, we report a rare case of a 22-year-old Syrian female who presented with abnormal uterine bleeding; the preoperative diagnosis suggested leiomyoma while histopathological and immunohistochemical studies confirmed the diagnosis of LG-ESS stage IIA. Therefore, the treatment plan was shifted from a conservative myomectomy to a total hysterectomy with both adnexa. The aim of this case report is to draw attention to this uncommon tumor at young age of patients as well as to have awareness of the necessity to suspect this diagnosis especially with the presentation of rapid enlargement of uterine leiomyoma.

Introduction: The treatment of atrophic jaw fractures requires extensive knowledge by the maxillofacial surgeon. The correct diagnosis and planning optimize the possibility of oral rehabilitation towards many possible alternatives. The difficulty in repairing these fractures makes the treatment complex, in which normally invasive techniques are used. However; which give us satisfactory and predictable aesthetic-functional results. Objective: The objective of this work is to report an atrophic jaw fracture and posterior dental implants rehabilitation. Case report: A 53 years old female patient, victim of in face aggression referred to the emergency care. At the clinical examination, the patient had laceration in the upper lip region and the left side of the mandibular area, with bilateral mobility and paresis. In the oral examination, total lower and partial upper edentulism. After tomographic evaluation, a bilateral fracture of the mandibular body was confirmed, with significant bone fragments uneven. Surgery was performed with total transcervical access and use of reconstruction plate. After 90 days of follow-up, the oral rehabilitation with osseointegrated implants was performed. Conclusion: Complex atrophic mandible fractures in total edentulous patients can be treated with open reduction and stable fixation, allowing a faster return to normal function, improve of quality of life and assists in increasing safety for implant installation.KeywordsEdentulous jaw; Jaw fixation techniques; Dental implants.

Abstract This case report is of a 31-year-old female who presented with splinted and faulty metalloceramic prosthesis on maxillary anterior teeth, which was responsible for localised periodontal disease and poor aesthetics. At multiple sites the ceramic had chipped off and the prosthesis colour did not match with the adjacent healthy teeth. A multidisciplinary approach of endodontics, periodontics and prosthodontics was employed for this case. The treatment plan consisted of removing the faulty prosthesis, endodontic retreatment of inadequately root-treated teeth and endodontics in the other coronally prepared abutment teeth. Crown lengthening surgery was performed for the correction of periodontal pockets and high smile line and maintenance of an adequate biological width. After periodontal healing, all-ceramic individual crowns were placed on the maxillary anterior teeth along with a three-unit all-ceramic bridge for the replacement of the left upper maxillary first premolar. Abstract Funding Acknowledgements none Introduction Atrial myxoma is a benign tumor of the heart , most commonly found in left atrium. The tumor must be surgically removed, because if remain untreated can lead to embolism, to arrhythmia and/or obstruction of mitral valve. Case report A 29 years old female presented due to palpitations and fatigue In the last two-three months. From recent blood tests she had a normal hematocrit and normal function of the thyroid gland. From the physical examination she had a blood pressure of 95/55 mmHg, S1S2 without any murmur, ECG with sinus rhythm and rsr" pattern. A bedside transthoracic echocardiography has performed and the findings were normal left systolic cardiac function, normal right systolic cardiac function, a large mass in left atrium without obstruction of mitral valve and a mild mitral regurgitation. The young female has been submitted for surgical removal of the cardiac mass and the anatomopathological examination has confirmed the benign nature of the atrial myxoma.
