PDDIKTI Feeder as a business intelligence application is used as an information center in higher education, containing master data of each student and lecturer, learning process data, reporting graduate data and lecturer activities in teaching for decision making. Paradoxically, through the empirical data there are many problems in implementing business intelligence systems in private universities, related to the maturity of information technology, data quality and information culture. Addressing this gap, we present a descriptive verification analysis research on 40 private universities in Bandung city, Indonesia, using the Partial Least Square Model. We conclude there is a positive influence of information technology maturity, data quality and information culture on the quality of the business intelligence system.

ASD-BI is an agile “marriage” between business intelligence and data mining. It is one of the first attempts to apply an Adaptive Software Development (ASD) agile method to business intelligence systems. The ASD-BI methodology's main characteristics are adaptive to environment changes, enhance knowledge capturing and sharing, and help in implementing and achieving an organization's strategy. The focus of the chapter is to demonstrate how agile methods would enhance the integration of data mining in business intelligence systems. The chapter presents ASD-BI main characteristics and provides two case studies, one on higher education and the other on (Bibliomining). The main result of the chapter is that applying agile methodologies for integrating business intelligence and data mining systems would increase transfer of tacit knowledge and raise the strategic dimension of using the knowledge discovery process.

The increased use of information technology leads to the generation of huge amounts of data which have to be stored and analyzed by appropriate systems. Data warehouse systems allow the storage of these data in a special multidimensional data base. Based on a data warehouse, business intelligence systems provide different analysis methods such as online analytical processing (OLAP) and data mining to analyze these data. Although these systems are already widely used and the usage is still growing, their application in the area of electronic human resource management (e-HRM) is rather scarce. Therefore, the objective of this article is to depict the components and functionality of these systems and to illustrate the application possibilities and benefits of these systems by selected application examples in the context of e-HRM.

Today most of the businesses are in continuous search of sophisticated tools and techniques to progressively grow their business. And therefore, the use of intelligence systems has found its pace in the global market. The intelligence systems has mostly effected the E-CRM as it is the most critical and central part for the growth of the business. The E-CRM approaches have enhanced drastically with an integration of the business intelligence systems and organizations are now diligently striving for excellence by gaining benefit from these integrated systems. However, there are many organizations which lag behind in escalating their progress and growth as they have not yet understand how to improve the data quality by using business intelligence systems and therefore used it for decision making. Hence, the following research is conducted to study the implementation trends of Intelligence E-CRM in business process and how the business intelligence systems could help in improvising the data quality and the business processes.

Using an interpretive case study approach, this chapter describes the data quality problems in two companies: (1) a Multi-Facility Healthcare Medical Group (MHMG), and (2) a Regional Health Insurance Company (RHIS). These two interpretive cases examine two different processes of the healthcare supply chain and their integration with a business intelligence system. Specifically, the issues examined are MHMG's revenue cycle management and RHIS's provider enrollment and credentialing process. A Data and Information Quality (DIQ) assessment of the revenue cycle management process demonstrates how a framework, referred to as PGOT, can identify improvement opportunities within any information-intensive environment. Based on the assessment of the revenue cycle management process, data quality problems associated with the key processes and their implications for the healthcare organization are described. This chapter provides recommendations for DIQ best practices and illustrates these best practices within this real world context of healthcare.

In today’s competitive business environment, there exist the need to investigate the adequacy of infrastructural flexibility for Business Intelligence Systems to support Sustainability on Firm’s Decision-making processes and performance. The Business Intelligence Systems consist of unique functions that are intrinsic aimed at supporting better quality decision-making within the organization. It is critical to the smooth operations of every organization. The intention of this study is not to discuss the technical details of implementing Business Intelligence Systems but to explore how to gain maximum benefits from the applications and usage of Business Intelligence Systems. An intensive literature review that highlighted the impact of Business Intelligence on firm performance and decision-making processes were initiated. The focus was on how to apply the Business Intelligence Systems to gain competitive advantage and to create more value from information by aligning it with the needs of employees who are engaged in complex business decision-making in today’s business environment. The study contributed in both academic and industrial operations by providing first time evidence of Business Intelligence solutions with particular reference to Nigerian firms located in Lagos State, Nigeria. The study employed the partial least square analysis with a sample size of 985 respondents randomly selected from five manufacturing companies. The findings suggested that the more effective use of Business Intelligence implementation, the more effective the decision-making processes and firm performance. The study offers a number of implications for theory and practice, noting that Business Intelligence System is in effect allowing firms to shift their structure to more carefully and thoughtfully align with the needs of customers and partners.

Recent growth and demands for dealing with increasing complexity in management, evaluation, and accreditation of higher educational institutions have led keynote academic institutions and higher education authorities to adopt and try nonconventional solutions known to business firms to account for massive data management. The development in new practices and merging technology for analytics and information management have offered different solutions such as data warehousing, big data, and business intelligence. Such solutions are gradually being installed in a number of renown universities. Due to the difference between the two firms (higher education and business industry) in nature and aims, tailor-made solutions are needed. This paper shares authors' experience in designing and implementing an educational information system in the College of Computers and Information systems at King Saud University, Saudi Arabia. The paper also highlights differences between educational intelligence and business intelligence systems. Higher education implementation aspects ensuring suitable data query service to ease the running of high educational institutions are discussed and recognized.
