The case of a patient under 2 years of age with acute vomiting, fever and seizures. MR imaging of the brain revealed a right lateral intraventricular mass and mild hydrocephalus. Surgery achieved gross total tumor resection, but tumor histology revealed choroid plexus carcinoma with heavy stratification and atypical “rhabdoid” cells.

This case report demonstrates that hypofractionated partial-brain radiation therapy with limited margins is a reasonable approach following gross tumor resection of Ewing sarcoma metastases to the brain. The patient presented with 2 intracranial metastases treated with gross-total resection followed by radiation therapy to 30 Gy in 5 fractions. The patient experienced symptomatic treatment-related inflammatory changes with resolution after receiving dexamethasone. He remains alive at 21 months of follow-up with no evidence of disease.

✓ A 6-year-old girl with a history of a nondisplaced skull fracture diagnosed with computerized tomography (CT) scanning 3 years previously presented with a 6-week history of headaches and decreased use of her right side. On admission CT scans, a large cystic mass was identified in the left frontal lobe region of the brain. A connection between the mass and the ventricular system was not seen on radiological examination or during surgery. Gross-total resection of the mass was achieved. The histological and immunohistochemical findings in the resected tissue confirmed a diagnosis of choroid plexus carcinoma (ChPC). This is the first reported case of a ChPC arising in an extraventricular location not associated with the choroid plexus.
