Conventional agricultural practices are very intensively utilizing synthetic agrochemicals. The resulting impact is a decrease in soil quality, thereby reducing fertilizer efficiency and plant yield. Efforts to maintain soil health include restoring organic matter. Organic fertilizers can be produced by utilizing the surrounding agricultural waste. Liquid organic fertilizer (LOF) can be produced from organic waste which should be chosen from high content of macro nutient. The quality of LOF could be increased by adding commercial decomposer starter or local microorganism. Organic matter of high energy should be added as well. The process of making liquid organic fertilizer is involved a fermentation process. Microbes will decompose organic material by breaking down the nutrients in the material to dissolve in solution. POC applications have been tested on various agricultural commodities. The provision of POC can increase the growth and yield of plants. Abstract The application of inorganic fertilizers has been continuously increasing since last many decades globally. Farmers nowadays heavily rely on the use of inorganic fertilizers to meet the production of their farms and gardens. This becomes a concerning environmentally and also health issue. One solution is to decrease the use of inorganic fertilizers and substitute with organic fertilizers. In our previous work, we have developed macroalgae-based organic fertilizer (MbOF) which show promising results in increasing the growth and yield of various crops and plants. However, the quality of the formulated MbOF has never been accessed. In this study, we analysed the organic matter composition and heavy metal safety profile of the MbOF. Our results show that MbOF contains considerably high organic C (43.05 ± 2.56 %). The cumulative content of total-N (1.91 ± 0.78 %), P2O5 (2.20 ± 0.81 %) and K2O (2.18 ± 0.54 %) were also above 4%. Furthermore, the C/N ratio was sufficient (22.54 ± 5.81 %). In addition, heavy metal analyses also show low content of Pb (5.61 ± 0.71 ppm) and Hg (0.29 ± 0.14 ppm). Based on the results, the formulated MbOF could be employed as substitute or used together with inorganic fertilizer to get maximum benefits regarding yield and growth of crops and plants.

Plants are naturally growing on the soil without hampering the eco-friendly environment. Intensive cultivation of crops with high yielding verities (HYV) hampering the soil health resulting unfertile soil. In addition, frequent uses of chemicals as well as overdose of synthetic fertilizer creating hazardous environment for the living things. However, to meet up the demand of foods as well as other basic requirements of increasing population of the world crop cultivation techniques need to be modernized. To overcome this situation, application of organic fertilizer need to apply regularly. Biochar can be a good source of organic fertilizer and it is currently using to improve the soil health globally. To examine the effect of biochar on jute growth and yield an experiment was set up in two different locations (Jute Agriculture Experimental Station (JAES), Manikganj, and Jute Research Sub Station (JRSS), Jashore of Bangladesh) during the period from August to December, 2019. Results revealed that location (JAES) had significant and positive effect on jute physiology and seed yield and as well as seed quality. Among fourteen treatments, treatment T2 (Recommended dose of fertilizer (RDF)) showed the highest plant height (163.5 cm), base diameter (7.44 mm) and pod per plant (16.5) compare to the rest treatments. Treatment T6 (RDF 75% + 25%[email protected]) showed the best seed weight (2.13 g) and seed yield/ plant (3.98 g) among all treatments. Interaction among treatments and locations, T2 x L2 affected seed germination (99%) and field emergence (92.33%) positively. From this research it was cleared that biochar alone may not enough but combination is required for improving jute seed yield and quality.

Low content of soil organic matter and low availability of nutrients in Ultisol are major constraints of this soil to support growth and development of chili pepper. Application of organic fertilizer is required to increase content of soil organic matter as well as to improve other chemical, biological, physical properties of this soil. Wedelia (Wedelia trilobata) and Siam Weed (Chromolaena odorata) are potential sources of organic fertilizer. The aim of this study was to compare growth and yield of chili pepper under different time application of Wedelia and Siam Weed based organic fertilizers. Greenhouse house experiment was conducted employing Completely Randomized Design with 2 factors namely Wedelia and Siam Weed composts as first factor and 5 (five) different time of application as second factor. Each treatment was replicated 5 times. The study showed that most variables observed in this experiment were not affected by types of compost. Only were plant height, canopy width and dry weight of biomass significant difference between the two composts. Siam weed compost applied two weeks before planting resulted in plant canopy wider than Wedelia compost. However, Wedelia compost applied at planting resulted in longer chili pepper as compared to Siam weed compost. The experiment also revealed that Wedelia compost produced higher plant height and root dry weight as compared to Siam weed compost.

To produce optimally good quality shallots, proper cultivation techniques are required. Efforts that can be made include modifying the environment in which plants grow. Alternative efforts to increase the quantity and quality of agricultural products, especially shallots can be done by using organic fertilizers and the use of Trichoderma sp. as a plant growth promoting agent, as well as improving the quality of organic fertilizers. The purpose of this study was to determine the role of Trichoderma in increasing the ability of plants to absorb nutrients from the growing media and to determine the best type of organic fertilizer to increase the growth and yield of shallots. The research was conducted at the experimental field of the Faculty of Agriculture, UPN "Veteran" Yogyakarta, Wedomartani, Sleman, Yogyakarta Special Region, at an altitude of approximately 104 meters above sea level. The time of the research is from May to July 2021. This study was arranged in a factorial Completely Randomized Block Design with 3 replications. The first factor is the type of manure (P1: without manure, P2: cow manure and P3: goat manure). The second factor was inoculation of Trichoderma sp isolates (I0: without inoculation of Trichoderma sp. isolates. and I1: by inoculation of Trichoderma sp. isolates). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that the addition of cow and goat manure was able to produce more leaves and plant height than without the addition of manure, although it did not show a significant effect on the yield of shallot bulbs. There is no significant difference between cow manure and goat manure. Trichoderma inoculation has not had a significant effect on the growth and yield of shallots

Shallot 'lembah palu' variety is the main raw material for fried onion industry in Central Sulawesi. This study aims to examine the LEISA technology package through the use of liquid and solid organic fertilizers from agricultural waste in order to obtain the quality of shallot bulbs that are good as raw material for fried onions. Research using Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) was repeated 4 (four) times. Treatment consists of: (A)= without organic fertilizer; (B)= liquid organic fertilizer (Biourin 40 mL/L of water); (C)= solid organic fertilizer (bokashi goat manure 20 ton/ha); (D)= solid organic fertilizer (bokashi goat manure 10 ton/ha) + liquid organic fertilizer (Biourin 20 mL/L of water); (E) = solid organic fertilizer (bokashi goat manure 20 ton/ha) + liquid organic fertilizer (Biourin 40 mL/L of water); (F)= solid organic fertilizer (20 ton/ha bokashi mixture of goat manure and shallot residues); (G)= solid organic fertilizer 20 ton/ha bokashi mixture of goat manure and shallot residues)+liquid organic fertilizer (Biourin 30 mL/L of water); (H)= solid organic 10 ton/ha bokashi mixture of goat manure and shallot residues)+liquid organic fertilizer (Biourin 60 mL/L of water; and (I)= solid organic fertilizer 30 ton/ha bokashi mixture of goat manure and shallot residues)+ liquid organic fertilizer (Biourin 60 mL/L of water). The results of the study were (i) the combination of types and doses of organic fertilizer in general resulted in higher growth and yield of shallots compared to without organic fertilizers, and (ii) a combination of solid organic fertilizer (mixture 20 ton/ha bokashi goat manure and shallot residue), produce number of  leaves, leaf dry weight, fresh weight per tuber, and fresh weight of tuber per hectare higher than without organic fertilizer.

Provinsi Jambi memiliki peran yang cukup besar dalam dalam bidang perkebunan karena memiliki beberapa komoditi unggulan seperti perkebunan kelapa sawit dan karet. Kabupaten Bungo tahun pada tahun 2016 memiliki perkebunan karet seluas 98220 hektar dan perkebunan kelapa sawit mencapai 97.630 Ha. Penggunaan tanah secara simultan dalam perkebunan sawit akan mengurangi kualitas tanah, sehingga berdampak pada kualitas sawit yang dihasilkan. Untuk meningkatkan produksi, digunakan pupuk, yang biasanya digunakan berupa pupuk sintesis, yang dalam jangka panjang akan memberikan dampak negatif bagi lingkungan dan tanah, sehingga dibutuhkan keterampilan masyarakat dalam menghasilkan pupuk berbasis alam (organik) dengan memanfaatkan limbah hasil pertanian. Salah satu limbah pertanian yang dilaporkan oleh Koperasi Unit Desa (KUD) Karya Mukti Kecamatan Jujuhan Ilir, Kabupaten Bungo adalah biji karet, yang hampir sebagian besar belum termanfaatkan dengan baik. Biji karet diketahui memiliki mikroorganisme lokal yang bersifat probiotik sebagai fermenter dalam reaksi fermentasi menghasilkan pupuk organik. Pengabdian kepada masyarakat dalam mengolah potensi tersebut sangat diperlukan dalam rangka penerapan teknologi tepat guna bagi petani dan untuk menerapkan sistem pertanian organik untuk menciptakan produk pertanian yang berkualitas dan sehat serta menciptakan salah satu pupuk organik cair yang ramah lingkungan.  Tujuan Program ini adalah untuk memberikan pelatihan dan kompetensi kepada masyarakat dalam mengolah limbah perkebunan untuk menghasilkan pupuk organik cair yang merupakan salah satu dekomposer yang dapat digunakan untuk meningkatkan kualitas hasil perkebunan. Selain itu, untuk jangka panjang, diharapkan program ini dapat meningkatkan keterampilan masyarakat untuk menghasilkan produk yang berkualitas dan berdaya saing. Kata kunci: Sawit, Karet, Fermenter, Pupuk Cair ABSTRACT Jambi Province has a significant role in the plantation sector because it has several superior commodities such as oil palm and rubber plantations. In 2016, Bungo District had rubber plantations covering 98.220 hectares and oil palm plantations 97.630 hectares. The simultaneous use of land in oil palm plantations will reduce the quality of the soil, thus having an impact on the quality of the palms produced. Usually, synthetic fertilizers use to increase production yields. The continued use of synthetic fertilizers will harm the soil and the environment, so that community skills are needed to produce natural-based (organic) fertilizers by utilizing agricultural waste. The Karya Mukti cooperative reports that rubber seeds are agriculture waste that has not to use appropriately. Rubber seeds are known to have local microorganisms that are probiotic as a fermenter in the fermentation reaction to produce organic fertilizer. Community service in processing this potential is needed to apply appropriate technology for farmers and to apply an organic farming system to create quality and healthy agricultural products and to create one of the environmentally friendly liquid organic fertilizers. This program aims to provide training and competence to the community in processing plantation waste to produce liquid organic fertilizer, which uses the decomposer to improve the quality of plantation products and also improve community skills to make quality and competitive products. Abstract Soybean is the basic material for any kind of industry, such as tofu and tempeh industries. Soybean cultivation will be better if use a sustainable agricultural system, such as using organic fertilizers. This research purpose was to find out the effect of organic fertilizer on the growth and yield of local soybean. The research used a complete randomized design with one factor which was a variety of organic fertilizers with 6 treatments. Various fertilizers used in this research consist of inorganic fertilizer, liquid organic, compost, cow manure, rabbit urine, chicken manure, and goat manure. Each test unit consists of 4 pots (plants) and each was repeated 4 times. The results showed that the provision of compost and goat manure increased the growth of local soybean plants, include plant height and the number of leaves at 42 DAP and leaf area at 28 DAP. The application of various organic fertilizers (liquid fertilizer, compost, cow manure, goat manure, and rabbit urine) is unable to increase the yield and yield components of local soybeans.

AbstractThe biochemical composition of organic fertilizers largely determines their nutrient supply characteristics following soil application as well as their potential impact on soil microbial communities. Yet, limited information is available regarding the biochemical composition of organic fertilizers derived from different nutrient sources. Here, we qualitatively analyzed the presence and abundance of proteins, lipids, and metabolites in a liquid fish fertilizer (LFF) product and a type of granular organic fertilizer (GOF) commonly used in organic vegetable production, using liquid chromatography–tandem mass spectrometry (LC–MS/MS). Our results suggest that the presence and abundance of proteins, lipids, and metabolites differ greatly between GOF and LFF. The qualitative analysis shows LFF as a rich source of metabolites, while complex proteins and long-chain saturated fatty acids are dominant in GOF. The degree of biochemical composition complexity may help explain the varying impacts of different types of organic fertilizers on nutrient availability, soil health, and environmental quality.

<p class="Default">ABSTRACT</p><p class="Default">Organik matter has an important role in determining soil health of sugarcane, i.e. soil capacity to support sugarcane to produce sustainable high yield. Soil organic matter influences soil physical, chemical, and biological properties, so that a consequence of declining soil organic matter is poorer soil fertility and lower yield. This paper has an objective to elucidate the important role of organic matter on sustainable farming of sugarcane. The important role of organic matter in soil fertility has been known for a long time before Green Revolution concept was introduced. With more intensity in sugarcane farming and more increasing of sugar demand, application of organic fertilizer started to be substituted by chemical fertilizer. Using green manure and/or biofertilizer has a chance to be spread out to the farmers due to more practical and more efficient than solid organik fertilizer, such as dung manure or compost. Future research should be focusing on the efectivity of green manure and or biofertilzer sources in improving soil fertility and cane yield, minimizing soil pathogen, reducing soil erosion of sugar cane land monoculture, and improving awareness of farmers about soil degradation as consequences of sugarcane monoculture planting for years.</p><p class="Default">Keywords: Organic matter, sugarcane, soil health sustainable farming</p><p class="Default"> </p><p class="Default"><strong>Bahan Organik: Peranannya dalam Budidaya Tebu Berkelanjutan</strong></p><p class="Default">ABSTRAK</p><p class="Default">Bahan organik tanah berperan penting dalam menentukan kesehatan tanah tebu, yaitu kapasitas tanah yang dapat mendukung produksi tebu yang tinggi secara berkelanjutan. Kadar bahan organik tanah mempengaruhi sifat fisik, kimia dan biologi tanah. Paper ini bertujuan untuk menguraikan tentang peranan bahan organik dalam memperbaiki sifat fisik, kimia dan biologi tanah pertanaman tebu. Pentingnya peran bahan oganik tersebut sudah disadari dari dulu, sehingga sebelum revolusi hijau penggunaan pupuk organik sudah umum dilakukan petani. Dengan semakin intensifnya budidaya tebu dan semakin meningkatnya kebutuhan gula, pemanfaatan pupuk organik sudah jarang dilakukan. Diperlukan usaha untuk meningkatkan dan mempertahankan kadar bahan organik pada lahan tebu, antara lain berupa gerakan masal dalam bentuk gerakan nasional melalui program aplikasi bahan organik. Pemanfaatan pupuk hijau dan/atau pupuk hayati berpeluang untuk diterapkan karena lebih praktis dan efisien daripada penambahan pupuk organik padat. Penelitian ke depan perlu difokuskan untuk mengkaji jenis-jenis pupuk organik dan pupuk hayati yang efektif memperbaiki kesuburan, dalam menekan serangan penyakit, meminimalkan erosi pada lahan-lahan tebu monokultur, dan meningkatkan kesadaran petani tebu tentang terjadinya degradasi lahan akibat penanaman tebu yang terus menerus.</p><p class="Default">Kata kunci: Bahan organik, tebu, kesehatan tanah, budidaya berkelanjutan</p><p class="Default"> </p>

There is increasing interest in the diversification of animal production systems to produce products which are not in surplus nationally. Fine fibre production from goats is one such subject area. Previous studies (e.g. Huston, 1980; Calhoun et al, 1988) in other countries have suggested that the yield and quality of mohair fibre may be influenced by nutritional factors such as protein and energy. The aim of the work reported here was to investigate the effects of differences in dietary protein and energy on body growth and yield and quality of mohair fibre produced by British Angora goats.Twenty four male castrate British Angora goats of Australasian origin with an initial liveweight of 23.5 kg were used in a 112 day study. The goats were housed in individual pens and introduced to pelleted diets over a period of three weeks. The animals were allocated to four dietary treatments by randomised block design according to liveweight. The animals received diets containing, per kg dry matter, concentrations of estimated metabolizable energy of 10.2 MJ (LE) or 11.9 MJ (HE) and crude protein concentrations of 108 g (LP) or 180 g (HP) in a 2 x 2 factorial experiment. The animals were offered high energy diets (30 g/kg liveweight) which were increased when live weight increased by 1.0 kg. The goats on the low energy rations were offered amounts equivalent to 0.85 of the ME intake from HE diets. The live weight gain and food intake were recorded weekly.
