The nutrients such as protein and vitamin are proven to improve the sperm quality. One nutrient rich fruit is avocado round green variety, which contains vitamins A, C and E higher than other varieties. This study aimed to determine the effect of consuming avocado on the mice sperm quality. This experimental study was using a Completely Randomized Design with four treatments, each with eight replications. Avocado dosage treatments were control, 75 % w/v, 100% w/v, and 133% w/v , with the number of mice were 32 age four weeks. Avocado was given three times a day, each 0.5 mL for six weeks besides the main food. The observed response was the sperm quality including number, motility and morphology. Sperm was taken from the epididymis after the mice were killed by cervical dislocation method. Sperm was made a suspension using 0.9% NaCl solution and a smear preparation to observe the sperm morphology while staining with basic stain crystal violet. The sperm quality was observed by Neubauer's counting rooms through a multimedia microscope. Data was analyzed using Kurskal Wallis test for the sperm number and Anova test for motility and morphological responses. The result showed that avocado had a significant influence for reproductive health, particularly for increasing spermatozoa quality, including concentration, motility and morphology of sperm. The higher dose of avocado given the higher quantity and quality of sperm resulted.

ABSTRAK Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh lama thawing yang berbeda pada suhu 250C untuk mendapatkan kualitas spermatozoa semen beku sapi ongole yang optimal. Penelitian dilakukan di Laboratorium Fakultas Peternakan Universitas Kanjuruhan Malang. Metode Penelitian yang digunakan adalah metode percobaan dengan menggunakan Rancangan Acak Lengkap (RAL) Faktorial. Setiap perlakuan thawing diberikan ulangan sebanyak 10 sampel semen beku sapi ongole. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan dengan lama thawing 7, 15, 30 detik pada suhu 25oC memberikan perbedaan pengaruh yang sangat nyata (p<0.01) pada motilitas, viabilitas dan abnormalitas spermatozoa semen beku sapi ongole. Motilitas tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan P3 dengan rata-rata sebesar 40,8%, viabilitas tertinggi diperoleh pada perlakuan P3 dengan rata-rata sebesar 82,39%, sedangkan abnormalitas terendah diperoleh pada perlakuan P3 dengan rata-rata sebesar 11,95%. Berdasarkan penelitian ini maka dapat disimpulkan bahwa thawing pada suhu 25oC dengan lama waktu 30 detik memberikan kualitas spermatozoa yang paling baik sehingga disarankan untuk melakukan thawing pada suhu 25oC dengan lama waktu 30 detik. Research conducted at the Laboratory of Animal Husbandry Faculty Kanjuruhan University of Malang. The method of study by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) factorial. Any treatment given repeated thawing of frozen samples of 10 times. The study show that treatment with time thawing 7 (P1), 15 (P2), 30 (P3) seconds at 25oC gives a very significant difference (P<0.01) on motility, viability and abnormalities of ongole Bull sperm. The highest motility and viability were obtained at P3 (40,8%) and (82,39%), while the lowest abnormalities obtained on P3 (11,95%). Based on this research it can be concluded that thawing at 25oC with 30 seconds to give the best quality sperm that is recommended for thawing. Abstract This research aimed to determine the quality of Etawah crossbreed sperm after sexing with different combinantion of Bovine Serum Albumin (BSA) concentrations. The parameter of this research were motility, viability, intact plasma membrane (IPM) and intact acrosome cap (IAC) (%). The Completely randomized design (CRD) was applied in this experiment involving 4 treatments of the combination of BSA concentrations (T1=3%:6%, T2 = 4%:8%, T3=5%:10%, T4=6%:12% at upper and lower fraction) and each treatments was repeated 5 times at post chilled and post sexing. Data were analyzed by using analysis of variance (ANOVA), followed by Duncan Multiple Range Test. The result showed that thecombination of BSA concentrations affected (P<0.05) motility, viability, IPM and IAC. The highest value of sperm quality in upper and lower fraction was obtained from the combination BSA of 5%:10% (motility 78.60 ± 2.61% and 73.80 ± 2.49%; viability 282 ± 14.30 and 252.8 ± 12.97 hours; IPM-value 79.60 ± 1.98% and 74.70 ± 1.82% and IAC 81.00 ± 1.46% and 76.90 ± 1.29%). Based on the results it can be concluded that the quality of Etawah crossbreed sperm after sexing is affected by the combination of BSA concentrations.

The research was conducted to determine the effect of storage time in 0.9% NaCl solution on sperm quality and the degree of fertilization goldfish, using a completely randomized design with 7 treatments consisting of sperm storage duration 0 hours, 2 hours, 4 hours, 6 hours, 8 hours, 10 hours, and 12 hours with 3 replications. The result showed that the goldfish sperm storage duration 2 hours still has a higher value of motility and the degree of fertilization. While the value of motility and the degree of fertilization lowest found in sperm storage duration of 12 hours. The deadlinefor sperm storage period goldfish 6 hours still have good motility value of 60% so it still possible for the process of fertilization and hatching.

This study aimed to find out the quality of fresh semen from Sumba Ongole (SO) bulls which was diluted with Bestvile Thawing Solution (BTS) diluent modified with soybean milk (SKD). The study used a completely randomized design consisting of four treatments and 5 replications, P0 (100 % BTS), P1 (95 % BTS + 5 % SM), P2 (90 % BTS + 10 % SM), and P3 (85 % BTS + 15 % SM). The parameters observed were the colour, smell, consistency, pH, volume, motility, viability, and abnormalities of spermatozoa. The results showed that the characteristics were in the normal, creamy white semen colour, semen volume 3,6 ml, medium consistency, pH 6,3, typical SO bulls smell, sperm motility 85 %, mass activity +++, sperm concentration 1276 million/ml, live sperm 90,05 % and sperm abnormalities 6,15 % and quality there was no significant difference between the four treatments. The spermatozoa motility and viability in each treatment was able to which achieved on day 1. The characteristics of the spermatozoa of SO bulls were in the normal category. Meanwhile, BTS diluent with the addition of SKD was unable to maintain sperm quality.

Abstract: Zinc is a cofactor of more than 100 enzymes that are essential for the metabolism of nucleic acid and protein synthesis. Zinc plays an important role in growth and development, immune response, neurological and reproductive functions. Monosodium glutamate (MSG) is the sodium salt of glutamic acid , a food flavor enhancer in the form of L-glutamic acid. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of zinc on sperm quality adult male wistar (Rattus norvegicus), following administration of monosodium glutamate (MSG). This study is experimental with a completely randomized design were conducted from November to Desember 2014 using a sample of 6 male wistars as a control group (P0) with 2 mg MSG being administered. The P1 group consist of 2 male wistars with 2 mg of MSG and zinc at a dose of 10 mg as treatment were administered to this group. The last group P2 also consist of 2 male wistars with the administration 2 mg of MSG and 20 mg doses of zinc as treatment.This study results in an increasement of spermatozoa consentration in the treatment group (P2), accounted for 78,25x106 as well as the increased of spermatozoa motility of 43,5 % for the treadment group (P2). Morfologically, 83,5 % of normal spermatozoa were accounted from the same group. Conclusion: Administration of zinc can improve the quality of male wistar spermatozoa following the administration of MSG, which includes concentration, motility and morphology. The increasing dosage of zinc being administered showed higher impact in improving the quality of spermatozoa.Keywords: zinc, MSG, male wistar, the quality of spermatozoa.Abstrak: Zink adalah kofaktor lebih dari 100 enzim yang penting untuk metabolisme asam nukleat dan sintesis protein. Zink berperan penting dalam pertumbuhan dan perkembangan, respon kekebalan, fungsi neurologis dan reproduksi. Monosodium glutamat (MSG) adalah garam natrium dari asam glutamat (glutamic acid), sebagai penambah rasa makanan dalam bentuk L-glutamic acid. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian zink terhadap kualitas spermatozoa wistar jantan dewasa (Rattus norvegicus) yang telah diberi monosodium glutamat (MSG). Penelitian ini bersifat eksperimental dengan rancangan acak lengkap (completely randomized design) yang dilakukan pada bulan November sampai Desember 2014 dengan menggunakan sampel sebanyak 6 ekor terdiri dari 2 ekor wistar pemberian MSG dengan dosis 2 mg sebagai kontrol (P0), 2 wistar pemberian MSG dengan dosis 2 mg dan zink dengan dosis 10 mg sebagai perlakuan (P1), dan 2 wistar pemberian MSG dengan dosis 2 mg dan zink dengan dosis 20 mg sebagai perlakuan (P2). Hasil penelitian ini di dapatkan peningkatan konsentrasi spermatozoa pada kelompok perlakuan P2 sebesar 78,25 x 106, peningkatan motilitas spermatozoa kategori A pada perlakuan kelompok P2 sebesar 43,5% dan morfologi normal spermatozoa pada kelompok perlakuan P2 sebesar 83,5%. Simpulan: Pemberian zink dapat menyebabkan perbaikan pada spermatozoa wistar jantan yang sebelumnya telah di beri MSG meliputi konsentrasi, motilitas, dan morfologi. Peningkatan dosis zink yang diberikan menunjukkan adanya perbaikan kualitas spermatozoa yang semakin meningkat juga.Kata kunci: zink, MSG, wistar jantan, kualitas spermatozoa.

Research on the evaluation of the spermatozoa quality of Brahma, Cochin and Bangkok chickens as the basis for the application of artificial insemination technology in native chickens has been carried out. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the spermatozoa quality of Brahma, Cochin and Bangkok rooster as the basis for determining the spermatozoa dose for artificial insemination in local chickens. method research was used a completely randomized design (CRD) with three treatments, that is: Brahma, Cochin and Bangkok rooster. Each treatment was repeated five times. Cement storage is carried out by inserting an artificial vagina into the cloaca of the rooster and stimulating it to climb the hen. The collected sperm were analyzed at the Animal Reproduction Laboratory, Faculty of Animal Science, Mataram University. The variables observed included motility, viability and morphology of spermatozoa. The results of studied that the spermatozoa motility of Brahma, Chicin and Bangkok rooster were 72 ± 2.74%. 74 ± 2.24% and 73 ± 2.74% (P> 0.05) respectively; The spermatozoan viability of Brahma rooster and Bangkok rooster was 99.2 ± 1.30%, 99.4 ± 0.55% and 99.2 ± 1.10% (P>0.05)respectively. The spermatozoan morphology of brahma rooster, chicin rooster and Bangkok rooster was 94.6 ± 2.30%, 94.4 ± 2.70% and 97.4 ± 2.07% (P> 0.05), respectively. Cochin rooster and Bangkok rooster respectively, 62.6 ± 7.92 x 107, 57 ± 5.83 x107 , and 65.2 ± 12.28 x107, respectively. The results of the study concluded that Brahma, Cochin and Bangkok rooster had good sperm quality and could be able to used in artificial insemination of Kampung hens.

ABSTRAK                       Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui kualitas spermatozoa semen hasil sexing kambing Peranakan Etawa (PE) dengan metode sedimentasi putih telur menggunakan pengencer yang berbeda. Materi yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah semen segar kambing PE.  Metode percobaan yang digunakan adalah percobaan laboratorium dengan menggunakan rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) Setiap perlakuan semen sexing kambing Peranakan Etawa dengan pengencer yang berbeda yaitu (P0) CEP, (P1) CEP+kuning telur+putih telur, (P2)CEP+putih telur (P3), CEP+kuning telur dan diulang sebanyak 10 kali. Variabel yang diukur pada penelitian ini adalah motilitas, viabilitas, dan abnormalitas spermatozoa. Data yang diperoleh dianalisis dengan mengunakan analisis varian. Apabila perlakuan memberikan pengaruh maka dilanjutkan dengan uji Beda Nyata Terkecil (BNT). Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa kualitas spermatozoa kambing Peranakan Etawa (PE) dengan berbagai macam pengencer menunjukkan pengaruh yang sangat nyata (P<0,01). Motilitas dan Viabilitas menunjukkan perbedaan yang sangat nyata (P<0,01) pada berbagai pengencer Motilitas terbaik pada beberapa lapisan atas sebesar 65% dan CEP+PT lapisan atas 60% dilanjutkan oleh CEP+KT+PT lapisan bawah 55,9% dan CEP+PT lapisan bawah 55% dilanjutkan lagi oleh CEP+KT lapisan atas 50% dan  lapisan bawah 45% dan yang paling terkecil adalah CEP lapisan bawah 40%. Viabilitas spermatozoa dari yang tertinggi yaitu CEP+KT+PT lapisan atas sebesar 69,553% dan CEP+PT lapisan atas sebesar 69,519% dan dilanjutkan dengan CEP+PT lapisan bawah sebesar 65,504% dan CEP+KT+PT lapisan bawah 65,473%, dan dilanjutkan lagi dengan CEP+KT lapisan atas sebesar 60,269% dan lapisan bawah sebesar 53,476% dan yang paling terkecil yaitu CEP lapisan bawah sebesar 40,371%. Presentase Abnormalitas menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan tidak memberikan pengaruh nyata (P>0,05). Tetapi CEP+KT+PT lapisan atas menunjukkan persentase yang paling rendah yaitu sebesar 4,88% dibandingkan perlakuan lainnya. Dari hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa kualitas spermatozoa semen sexing kambing PE dengan menggunakan pengencer CEP+ kuning telur + putih telur pada lapisan atas memberikan hasil terbaik terhadap kualitas spermatozoa ditinjau dari motilitas, viabilitas dan abnormalitas.   ABSTRACT                      The purpose of this study was to determine the sexing sperm quality of Etawa cross-bred goat (PE) with egg white sedimentation method using different diluents. The material used in this study was the fresh semen Etawa crossbreed goat (PE) of the center for Artificial Insemination (BBIB) Singosari Malang. The method is laboratory research using completely randomized design. Consist of CEP, CEP + KT, CEP + PT, CEP + KT + PT and repeated 10 times. The variables are motility, viability and abnormality of sperm. Data were analyzed by using variance analysis. If the treatment effect then continued by Least Significant Difference (LSD). The results showed that the quality of Etawa cross-bred goat sperm with various diluents showed a significant influence (P <0.01). Motility and viability showed differences (P <0.01) in various diluents. The best motility and viability on top layer of CEP+KT+PT diluent were 65% and 69%, 55%. Percentage abnormalities showed that the treatment was not significant effect (P> 0.05). but top layer CEP+KT+PT diluent shows the percentage of abnormality west 4.88% compared to the other treatments. From the results of this study concluded that the quality of sexing semen quality by using dilution CEP + yolk white egg on the top layer gives the best results on the quality of sperm in terms of motility, viability and abnormalities. Based on this study it is suggested that the use of sexing semen with egg white sedimentation method using diluent CEP + yolk + white egg.

The use of colorants in the dried noodle manufactures is an effort of product diversification. Besides of being used as a natural coloring agent, this peel extract is also used to improve nutritional value of the expected product. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of red dragon fruit peel extract on the physical quality of dried noodle.  The study was conducted by using Completely Randomized Design (CRD) method with one factor, namely concentration of red dragon fruit peel extract (N1 = 10 ml, N2 = 15 ml, N3 = 20 ml, N4 = 25 ml, N5 = 30 ml).  The observations of its physical quality consisted of water absorption, solid loss during cooking, and organoleptic tests (aroma and color).  The best quality of dried noodle was obtained by using 30 ml red dragon fruit peel extract (N5) with physical properties, namely DSA levels of 351.92%, solid loss during cooking 4.78%, aroma 3.79 (like) and color 3.89 (like).

ABSTRAK  Penelitian bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh pemberian bubuk daun Moringa oleifera (MO) terhadap kuantitas dan kualitas semen sapi peranakan ongole (PO). Metode penelitian menggunakan percobaan lapang dengan rancangan acak lengkap dengan tiga perlakuan pemberian MO sebesar 0 kg/ekor/hari (P1); 0,05 kg/ekor/hari (P2) dan 0,1 kg/ekor/hari (P3). Analsis data menggunakan one way analysis of variance. Masing-masing perlakuan terdiri atas empat ekor dengan tiga periode pengamatan sebagai ulangan, yaitu periode pertama dan ketiga tanpa MO, dan periode kedua diberikan MO pada P2 dan P3. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa volume dan pH semen perlakuan P1, P2 dan P3 tidak berbeda semua periode pengamatan. Motilitas massa spermatozoa P2 dan P3 periode kedua dan ketiga menunjukan nilai +++ berbeda nyata (P<0,05) dibandingkan dengan P1 (++); motilitas individu  perlakuan P1 menunjukkan nilai terendah 60,56±2,94 % (P<0,05) dibandingkan P2 dan P3 pada periode kedua dan ketiga (75,50±2,29 dan 72,50±2,34%). Konsentrasi spermatozoa P2 dan P3 periode kedua dan ketiga menunjukkan rata-rata  >1.350 juta/ml berbeda nyata (P<0,05) daripada P1 (876±152juta/ml), sedangkan total spermatozoa motil menunjukkan nilai tertinggi 5.647±829 juta/ml pada P3 periode kedua.Viabilitas spermatozoa P2 dan P3 menunjukkan nilai >88-89 % beda nyata (P<0,05) daripada P1 (<84 %) pada periode kedua dan ketiga, sedangkan nilai abnormalitas spermatozoa yang terbaik adalah P2 sebesar 4,30% pada periode kedua dan P3 sebesar 5,33% pada periode ketiga. Disimpulkan pemberian bubuk daun MO dengan dosis 0,1 kg/ekor/hari dapat memperbaiki kuantitas dan kualitas semen (viabilitas dan total spermatozoa motil) sapi pejantan PO.Kata kunci:  kuantitas dan kualitas semen, Moringa oleifera, sapi pejantan ABSTRACTThe research aimed to determine the effect of Moringa oleifera (MO) leaf powder on the quantity and quality of semen of ongole crossbreed. The research method used was a field experiment with a completely randomized design with three treatments giving MO of 0 kg/head/day (P1); 0.05 kg/head/day (P2) and 0.1 kg/head/day (P3). Each treatment consisted of four heads with three periods of observation as replications, namely the first and third periods without MO, and the second period was given MO on P2 and P3. Data analysis used a one-way analysis of variance. The results showed that the volume and pH of semen treated P1, P2, and P3 didn’t different in all observation periods. The second and third period spermatozoa mass motility of P2 and P3 showed that the value of +++ was significantly different (P<0.05) compared to P1 (++); Individual motility of P1 treatment showed the lowest value 60,56±2,94 % (P<0.05) compared to P2 and P3 in the second and third periods (75,50±2,29 and 72,50±2,34%). The second and third periods of P2 and P3 spermatozoa concentrations showed an average of >1,350 million/cc significantly different (P<0.05) than P1 (876±152 million/cc), while the total motile spermatozoa showed the highest value of 5,647±829 million/cc in the second period P3. Soybean (Glycine max (L) Merr) is needed as an alternative diversification in order to increase protein consumption. Soybean can be processed into variety of foods and drinks. The most popular drink from soybean is soya milk which is made from soybean extract yielded from the addition of water. The amount of water added determine the quality of soya milk due to its effect on the chemical and physical properties of soya milk. This research was intended to find out the proper ratio of soybean and water in the processing of soya milk to yield the best quality. A completely randomized design was used with eight treatments of soybean and water ratio as follows, ratio of 1 : 6, ratio of 1 : 8, ratio of 1 : 10, ratio of 1 : 12, ratio of 1 : 14, ratio of 1 : 16, ratio of 1 : 18 and ratio of 1 : 20. Result showed the soybean and water ratio 1 : 10 in the processing of soya milk yielded milk having good quality according to its chemical with protein content of 2.53%, fat of 1.20%, sugar total of 1.60%, pH of 7.1, and organoleptic characteristies of both somewhat sweet taste and viscous texture.
