Abstract Mechanical properties of the two-phase titanium alloy Ti6Al7Nb, after the heat treatment based on soaking this alloy in the α + β range, cooling in water or oil and ageing at two selected temperatures, were determined in the hereby paper. The alloy mechanical properties were determined in tensile and impact tests, supported by the fractographic analysis of fractures. In addition, its hardness was measured and the analysis of changes occurring in the microstructure was performed for all variants of the alloy heat treatment. Regardless of the applied cooling rate of the alloy, from a temperature of 970°C followed by ageing at 450 and 650°C, none essential changes were noticed in its microstructure. It was shown that applying less intensive cooling medium (oil) instead of water (before tempering) decreases strength properties indicators, i.e. tensile strength and yield strength as well as hardness (only slightly). The decrease of the above mentioned indicators is accompanied by an increase of an elongation and impacts strength. Fractures of tensile and impact tests are of a ductile character regardless of the applied heat treatment.

Bulky sample was made by using TIG wire and arc additive manufacturing (WAAM) technology, in which Ф1.6 mm filler wire of in-situ TiB2/Al-Si composites was selected as deposition metal, following by T6 heat treatment. The microstructure and mechanical properties of the bulky sample before and after heat treatment were analyzed. Experimental results showed that the texture of the original samples parallel to the weld direction and perpendicular to the weld direction was similar consisting of columnar dendrites and equiaxed crystals. After T6 heat treatment, the hardness of the sample was increased to 115.85 HV from 62.83 HV, the yield strength of the sample was 273.33 MPa, the average tensile strength was 347.33 MPa, and the average elongation after fracture was 7.96%. Although pore defects existed in the fracture, yet the fracture of the sample was ductile fracture.

The influence of annealing temperature on the microstructure, mechanical properties and corrosion resistant of cold rolling zirconium sheet were studied in the manuscript. The experimental results shown that the tensile strength and yield strength of zirconium sheet were decreased and the elongationwas raised with the raising of annealing temperature from 500 °C to 580 °C. The recrystallization are not happened in zirconium sheet at the annealing temperature of 500 °C. Zirconium sheet complete recrystallized and the strength and elongation get a well match at the annealing temperature of 540°C. Zirconium sheet also complete recrystallized at the annealing temperature of 580°C but the crystalline grain has the tendency of growing. The annealing temperature has no effect on the corrosion resistant of zirconium sheet.

Abstract The paper analyzes the influence of different heat treatment processes on the mechanical properties of low-alloy high-strength steel denoted by Polish Standard (PN) as 10MnVNb6. One of the findings is that, after aging, the mechanical properties of rolled steel are high: the yield strength may reach > 600 MPa, and the ultimate tensile strength is > 700 MPa. These properties are largely dependent on the grain size and dispersion of the strengthening phase in the ferrite matrix. Aging applied after hot rolling contributes to a considerable rise in the yield strength and ultimate tensile strength. The process of normalization causes a decrease in the average grain size and coalescence (reduction of dispersion) of the strengthening phase. When 10MnVNb6 steel was aged after normalization, there was not a complete recovery in its strength properties.

Effects of heat treatment process of quenching and tempering under different temperature conditions on mechanical properties of X70 grade pipeline steel bends were studied. Brinell hardness, yield strength, tensile strength, elongation and impact absorbing energy of the bends were tested by using hardness tester, cupping machine and impact testing machine, respectively. It shows that the best heat treatment process of the X70 grade pipeline steel bends is quenching at 890 °Cand thermal insulation for 26 min then water cooling followed by tempering at 590 °C and thermal insulation for 60 min then air cooling. Furthermore, the resulting hardness, yield strength, tensile strength, yield ratio, elongation and impact absorbing energy reach HB230, 595 MPa, 725 MPa, 0.82, 28% and 300 J respectively, which has excellent comprehensive mechanical properties.

The paper presents published data on the effect of rubber elastomers on the strength properties of epoxy resin (ES) and carbon fiber. The introduction of 10% rubbers into ES ED-20 leads to an increase in compressive strength by 50%, tensile strength by 51%, impact strength by 133% and elongation by 128%. The optimal content of rubber with carboxyl groups for the OLDEN mixture was 10-12.5%, while the increase in compressive strength was 48%, impact strength - 73% and elongation - 187%. For DER 331 resin, the study was conducted with two hardeners Piperidine and DETA. The best results for Piperidine hardener were obtained on rubber with hydroxyl groups, with its optimal content of 2.5%, impact strength increased by 170%. For the hardener DETA, the best results were obtained on rubber with carboxyl groups at its optimal content of 10%, the increase in impact strength was 66%. When modifying carbon fiber with rubbers, it leads to a significant increase in the yield strength in tension by 42%, the modulus of elasticity in bending by 63%, and with a slight loss of impact strength.

A series of annealing parameters including the cooling rate and overaging time, especially ultra high cooling rate of a ultra-low carbon auto steel were conducted on HDPS (hot dipping process simulator) in experiment. The research results show that, when samples were conducted under extra fast cooling rate higher than 30 °C/s, yield and tensile strength almost changed not when cooling rate increased from 30 to 50 °C/s, as cooling rate reached 90 °C/s, the strength and elongation changed more rapidly. When the overaging time changed from 130 to 300 s, the elongation was more sensitive, changed from 19.7 to 25.6 %. Yield and tensile strength were not sensitive when aging time was below 213 s, but with increasing aging as high as 300 s, the yield strength decreased 11 MPa, and tensile strength decreased 21 MPa.

The thermomechanical control processing (TMCP) was conducted through the adjustment of the rolling technological parameters to the test steel. The influence of the finishing temperature, cooling rate and alloying elements to the microstructure and mechanical properties was investigated by comprehensive utilization of grain refining strengthening and second phase strengthening. The results show that the microstructure was mainly composed of bainite, ferrite and second phase TiC; at the finishing temperature of 870°C, the yield strength was 596.7 MPa, the tensile strength reached 748.5 MPa, the elongation ratio was 20.17%; at high cooling rate of 16°C/s, the yield strength achieved 616.7 MPa, the tensile strength reached 785.5 MPa, the tensile ratio reduced for 0.78, and the elongation ratio enhanced to 20.92%. And the quantity of bainite increased with the raise of finishing temperature from 800°C to 870°C, which improved the hardness and wear resistance of the steel.

The effects of semi-solid extrusion temperature change, extrusion pressure, SiC content and T5 heat treatment on the microstructure, mechanical properties, and wear resistance of SiC particle strengthened high aluminum zinc-base alloy [Formula: see text] composites were studied. The results show that semi-solid extrusion broke the dendrites of [Formula: see text] composites, refined their grain structure, and improved particle aggregation. The density, hardness, yield strength, tensile strength and elongation of [Formula: see text] composites first increased and then decreased when the extrusion temperature and SiC content increased, and also increased when the extrusion pressure rose. The optimal extrusion temperature, pressure and SiC content are 475[Formula: see text], 15 MPa and 10 wt.%, respectively. T5 heat treatment further refined the crystalline grains and promoted [Formula: see text] and [Formula: see text] to precipitate as strengthening phases, which improve the mechanical properties and wear resistance of [Formula: see text] composites. Consequently, the hardness, yield strength, tensile strength and elongation of the heat-treated composites improved by 18.99%, 9.66%, 4.93% and 9.76%, respectively. The wear loss of the heat-treated composites reduced by 31.65% under a load of 1600 N and a rotational speed of 200 r/min compared with the as-cast composites.

Abstract The effects of different cooling rates ( 0.05℃/s, 0.1℃/s, and 0.2℃/s ) on the microstructure and mechanical properties of 1000 MPa grade automobile steel for cold forming after two-phase annealing were studied. The microstructure of the experimental steel was observed by SEM and TEM, and its mechanical properties were tested by a universal tensile testing machine. The results showed that by increasing the cooling rate of two-phase annealing, more massive retained austenite, more uniform and fine ferrite, better elongation and higher ultimate tensile strength of steel can be obtained, so as to obtain better production of tensile strength and total elongation ( product of tensile strength and elongation, PSE ). The final result shows that after the test steel is quenched at 800℃ + 10 minutes and annealed in the two-phase region at 690℃ + 10 minutes, the faster the cooling rate, the better the mechanical properties. The mechanical properties of the steel plate are the best when the cooling rate reaches 0.2℃/s, and PSE can reach 27.44 GPa·%.
