During a survey of the freshwater diatom flora of the sub-Antarctic region (Iles Kerguelen and Iles Crozet) in the southern Indian Ocean, an unknown Cyclotella taxon was observed that was formerly identified as the presumed cosmopolitan C. meneghinana. Detailed morphological analysis based on light and scanning electron microscopical observations and comparison with several similar Cyclotella taxa worldwide justified the description of this unknown taxon as a new species: Cyclotella deceusteriana sp. nov. The new taxon is characterized by the presence of marginal fultoportulae on every costa, hyaline furrows between the raised marginal parts on which the striae are located, 2, occasionally 1, 3 or 4 central fultoportulae and an entirely flat, smooth, relatively small central area. The new species is described and compared with other Cyclotella taxa. Notes on its distribution and ecology are added.

The oribatid mite family Astegistidae is represented in Mongolia by four species in two genera. A new species, Cultroribula taigagica sp. nov., collected from cool temperate forests in Northern Mongolia is described based on adults. In addition, three known species, Astegistes pilosus (C.L. Koch, 1840), Cultroribula dentata Willmann, 1950 and Cultroribula vtorovi Krivolutsly, 1971 are recorded for the first time from Mongolia, which are redescribed along with data on their distribution and ecology. A key to Mongolian species of Astegistidae is given.

Eschweilera sphaerocarpa (Lecythidaceae) is described here as a new species for science. It is closely related to Eschweilera complanata. Due to an area of occupancy of less than 10 km² this species is regarded as endangered according to the standards of the IUCN. This paper provides a description, illustration and, comments on geographic distribution and ecology. Additionally, a diagnostic key to the species of Eschweilera section Tetrapetala is provided.

Rubus ser. Rhamnifolii includes apomictic polyploid species, which occur in north-western and central Europe, with rare outposts to eastern central Europe. A regionally distributed tetraploid species of the series occurring north and south of the Eastern Alps in Austria and Germany, Rubus noricus is described here. The new species is morphologically compared with similar taxa of the series, moreover, comprehensive iconography, data on distribution and ecology are presented.

A new species of the genus Eurostocepheus (Oribatida, Otocepheidae) is described from soil and litter of Tam Dao National Park in Northern Vietnam. Eurostocepheus (Eurostocepheus) wojciechniedbalai sp. nov. is morphologically most similar to E. (E.) mahunkai Mondal & Kundu, 1999 from India in the presence of four pairs of genital setae and medial prodorsal condyles, but differs by the quadrangular, anteromedially excavated lateral notogastral condyles, short interlamellar setae, short notogastral setae c, minute epimeral setae 1a, 2a, 3a, two pairs of epimeral setae on epimere IV, and by the transverse position of the anal setae. Revised generic and subgeneric diagnoses, an identification key to the known taxa, and data on the distribution and ecology of Eurostocepheus are presented.

Viola denizliensis is described as a new species from South-West Anatolia. The species grows on serpentinite stony slopes in Bozdağ Mountain in Denizli. It belongs to Viola sect. Melanium and is close to V. dirimliensis and V. kitaibeliana. Viola denizliensis can be readily distinguished from related species by morphological and molecular characters. Comments on descriptive and diagnostic characters, distribution and ecology, phenolgy and proposed conservation status for this new species are given in the present study. Morphological affinities and ISSR-based molecular relationships between V. denizliensis and related species are also discussed.

During a survey of the freshwater diatom flora of the sub-Antarctic Kerguelen archipelago in the southern Indian Ocean, an unknown Diatomella taxon was observed forming long colonies using linking spines. Detailed morphological analysis based on light and scanning electron microscopical observations and comparison with all known Diatomella taxa worldwide justified the description of this unknown taxon as a new species: Diatomella colonialis sp. nov. The new taxon is characterized by the presence of marginal linking spines, the reduction of its raphe structure leaving only two short raphe slits near the apices, a very large axial area occupying almost the entire valve face and very short alveolate striae composed of paired areolae. The presence of these alveolate striae and the girdle structure with its typical scalariform valvocopula place this taxon in the genus Diatomella.         The new species is described and compared with other Diatomella taxa. Notes on its distribution and ecology are added.
