The aim of this study is to evaluate the quality of sleep and life in pregnant women in Korea. Methods: This study is a prospective cross-sectional, case-control study of pregnant women and age-matched controls. From July to September 2019, all participants completed Korean-language versions of the sleep questionnaires including Pittsburgh sleep quality index (K-PSQI), Insomnia severity index, Epworth sleepiness scale, Back’s depression inventory-2(K-BDI), STOP (Snoring, Tiredness, Observed apneas, and high blood Pressure), and short-form 36 (K-SF-36).Results: A total of 422 participants consisted of 385 pregnant women and 137 controls. Second and third trimester were 200 and 185, respectively. K-PSQI scores were higher in pregnant women compared with the controls (7.87±3.49 and 8.50±3.55 vs. 5.79±2.76, p<0.001). Total score of K-SF-36 was lowest in third trimester (62.07±17.72) and highest in the control group(79.41±13.36). There was no statistical difference between groups in K-BDI.Conclusions: This study demonstrated worsening of sleep quality as well as life quality during pregnancy. More attention to sleep of pregnant women is needed.

Abstract Objectives To observe and compare the difference in retinal thickness using optical coherence tomography (OCT) between patients with high myopia (HM) during the third trimester of pregnancy and age-matched HM non-pregnant women. Methods A case-control study. A total of 39 eyes from 39 HM women in the third trimester (study group) and 50 eyes of 50 age-matched non-pregnant women with HM (control group) were included. All subjects underwent SD-OCT examination. The built-in software was used to measure the retinal thickness in macular region. The data from two groups were compared using independent-samples t test. Results Among the 89 subjects in this study, the mean gestational age of the study group was 35.09 ± 2.44 weeks, and the average age was 32.24 ± 3.75 years. The average age of the control group was 34.04 ± 7.19 years old. Compared with the control group, the average thickness of parafoveal area, and the average thickness of parafoveal superior, inferior, temporal quadrants of the superficial retina and the average thickness of the foveal and parafoveal of the superficial retina were significantly decreased in the study group (P < 0.05). Compared with the control group, the average thickness of all quadrants of the retina in the parafoveal area except the nasal quadrant were significantly decreased in the study group (P < 0.05). Conclusions In this observational study, the retinal thickness of patients with high myopia during the third trimester of pregnancy was thinner than that of non-pregnant women with age-matched high myopia.

As gestational age increases, the quality of sleep can decrease. It was reported that about 60% of late trimester pregnant women experience fatigue and> 75% experience sleep disturbances. However, these complaints are often ignored, even though it can lead to an increased risk of gestational hypertension, diabetes, prematurity, and postpartum depression. Sleep disturbances can also cause depression and stress that affects the fetus. Mild stress causes an increase in fetal heart rate which, if left untreated, will make the baby hyperactive. Meanwhile, the consequences are depression and babies who are born have less time to sleep deeply. Efforts to overcome this sleep disorder are yoga and lavender aromatherapy inhalation. Purpose: Therefore, the researchers estimated that the application of a combination of prenatal gentle yoga and lavender aromatherapy would be more effective in affecting the quality of sleep in pregnant women, so it is hoped that it can reduce sleep disturbances in third trimester pregnant women. Results: There is a significant effect of the combination of prenatal gentle yoga and inhalation of lavender aromatherapy in improving sleep quality in the treatment group with a value of α = 0.011 or α <0.05. There was a significant difference in the quality of sleep in the group compared to the control group with a value of α = 0.004 or α <0.05. This type of research is a pre-experimental one group pretest and posttest with a research design using a quantitative approach. Based on the results of statistical tests through the Wilcoxon signed ranks test that the exact sig value. (2-tailed) and asymp. sig. (2-tailed) or p = 0.03 <0.05 so it can be concluded that pregnancy exercise affects the sleep quality of pregnant women in the third trimester. It is recommended to health workers, especially midwives, to conduct more intensive counseling, especially counseling about the benefits of doing pregnancy exercises, especially in the third trimester of pregnancy to provide a sense of comfort to pregnant women and to prevent complications in pregnancy to reduce the cases of maternal and infant mortality rates during pregnancy at Bone District. Abstract Background Previous studies in pregnancy have not focused in evaluating the effect of walking during pregnancy and prevention of insomnia. Our general objective is to determine the effect of a walking program in preventing the appearance of insomnia in the third trimester of pregnancy, increasing sleep quality and improving quality of life throughout pregnancy. Methods Randomized Controlled trial in parallel in healthy sedentary pregnant women (n = 265), Walking_Preg Project (WPP), from university hospital in Granada, Spain. At 12th gestational week (GW), they will be invited to participate and randomly assigned to one of the three arms of study: the intervention group I1 (pedometer, goal of 11,000 steps/day), intervention group I2 (pedometer, no goal) and control (no pedometer). Duration of intervention: 13–32 GW. At 12th, 19th and 31st GW the average steps/day will be measured in groups I1 and I2. At 13th, 20th and 32nd GW, Athens Insomnia Scale (AIS), Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), Adherence to Mediterranean Diet (AMD), physical activity (short IPAQ), quality of life (PSI), and consumption of toxic substances (caffeine, illegal drugs, alcohol and tobacco) will be collected. Student t test or Mann-Whitney U will be used to compare 19th and 31st GW mean of daily steps between I1 and I2 groups. To compare differences between groups in terms of frequency of insomnia/quality of life for each trimester of pregnancy, Pearson’s Chi-square test or Fisher’s exact test will be used. To determine differences in hours of sleep and quality of sleep throughout each trimester of pregnancy, analysis of variance or Friedman test will be used. McNemar-Bowker test will be used to assess differences in life quality in pre-post analyses in the 3 arms. We will use Stata 15 statistical software. Discussion promoting walking in second half of pregnancy through use of pedometer and health pre-registration of a goal to be achieved –'10,000–11,000 steps a day’– should prevent appearance of insomnia in third trimester, will increase sleep quality and quality of life in pregnant women. Trial registration ClinicalTrials.gov Identifier: NCT03735381. Registered 8th November, 2018.
