There have been a lot of studies on the history and development of Islamic education in Indonesia conducted by various groups. At least, there are three important aspects that should be noted in this study. First, from the aspect of the region, the history of Islamic education in South Sumatera which has never been comprehensively studied since the colonial era. Second, related to theoretical assumption, the question of whether the development of the system and the modern Islamic institution in Palembang during colonial era tend to be dominated by Muslim reformers or Muslim traditionalists. Third, from the point of view of methodology which tends to be descriptive and chronological, though recently there arises an analytical approach in which the system and the institution are not seen as things that can stand on their own, but are attached to social, religious, cultural, and political aspects. It is this approach which will be used in this study. Therefore, this study will try to look into the relationship between various social changes in Palembang and the system and Islamic educational institutions in the colonial era.

The main purpose of this chapter is to give information about the Distance Education System at Anadolu University (DESA), which has nearly two million students from diverse backgrounds. By the 1990s, the number of people of postgraduate age employed in Turkey had gradually increased to over 60 percent. The shortage of funds for educational services such as adequate classroom spaces and well-qualified instructors was already creating difficulties across the country. Higher educational institutions of all types had to decide on the principles, which were to guide them in dealing with this tremendous increase in the population. In this context, Anadolu University made provocative recommendations in 1982, defended the Distance Education system as the most appropriate milieu for the continuous education of the postgraduate students of Turkey, established the first College of Open Education in Turkey, and became one of the mega universities in the world. In short, the founding fathers of the Distance Education System of Anadolu University were able to critically analyze new priorities and needs in the area by just thinking big!

Today, extremely fast developments take place in science and technology. These changes and developments reflect upon all systems and give rise to changes in some concepts and processes. Lifelong learning is one of the concepts affected by these changes. Educational institutions are considered to be responsible for spreading knowledge through e-learning, virtual university, Web-based education, distance education, which offer professional development. Therefore, distance education institutions have an important place in the education system of the future. However, innovations and developments have to be followed closely and operationally used for adaptation to the education system of the future within the distance education system as well. A scientific and realistic way of adapting to these developments is possible only if program development efforts are constant. Looking from this framework, teaching design, internationalization, entrepreneurship have given rise to differentiation in the program development of distance education. This is explored in this chapter.

Since 2020, the coronavirus infection has covered the entire globe. Virologists and epidemiologists find it difficult to make predictions about the possibility of its complete eradication. This means an increase in the probability of the transition of educational and pedagogical processes mainly to distance education. The necessity of developing appropriate effective pedagogical technologies is actualized. This is facilitated by the current trend of "digitalization" of society, equipping educational institutions with information technology, and all students with personal computers. The national intellectual cores that make up the country's immune system-culture, science, education, public administration – are subjected to total information and network influence. The most vulnerable category is young people who are immersed in the information and digital web through all sorts of gadgets, who do not have reliable criteria for separating the grains from the chaff. The human brain is a kind of biological computer, a body of «local» self-government, designed to provide intellectual immunity, functions of self-analysis, self-criticism, self-assessment, self-organization, self-regulation, etc. Since a person is born without «software», the main task of all educational institutions is to provide students with cultural (software) means of effective correct independent thinking. In the conditions of market uncertainty, the coronavirus pandemic, the absence of an officially articulated national idea, national interests and ideology in Kazakhstan, the need to shift the focus of educational policy in the country from subject-programmed training to the cultivation of abilities for reflexive, functional-system thinking and interaction is becoming more and more clearly realized. From the methodological point of view, problems exist only in thinking and are associated with the lack of means of organized thinking, the corresponding abilities of a person to apply these means. Given the forced transition to remote, distance education, the nearest problem that needs to be resolved is the lack of effective pedagogical means for forming students' abilities for reflexive, functional-systemic thinking and interaction. Purpose is substantiation and development of author's model dialogues that indirectly contribute to the formation of students' abilities for reflexive, functional-system thinking and interaction in the conditions of distance education. Methods: model dialogues constructed using the method of ascent from the abstract to the concrete or the method of dialectical deduction and the method of converting concrete images of objects based on their abstract foundations. The given samples of the author's model dialogues demonstrate an innovative way of cultivating reflexive analytical, pedagogical and managerial abilities of students with different focuses.

On March 14, 2020, an order was posted on the website of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Russian Federation on new rules for organizing educational activities in Russian universities, heads of higher educational institutions were instructed to organize interaction between students and teachers in the educational process in a distance format. Self-study contributes not only to the development of physical skills and health, but also helps to better assimilate the educational material, since the body must periodically receive a “jolt” between long “periods of sitting” in other disciplines. The topic of self-study is especially relevant during periods of a pandemic, when many educational institutions transfer their students to “distance education” and organized physical education classes become impossible. At this time, everyone should understand for himself that it is necessary to perform the exercises, because in such conditions most of the time is spent sitting, while not being active. The number of movements performed per day becomes too low. Therefore, daily physical activities are indispensable and necessary in everyone’s life, an alternative solution to the gym is needed, and the work offers a set of exercises at home for distance learning students.

Covid-19, which emerged in the Wuhan city of People’s Republic of China and affected the whole world, was first seen in Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus and Turkey in March 2020. Due to the negative impact created by the mentioned disease, face-to-face education which was traditionally applied in Turkey and Northern Cyprus was ceded and total distance education was adopted rapidly so that education would not be hindered. Although distance education has a long history in the world, the total transformation of the system required a certain ef-fort for both students and teachers to have a command in the process. In the arti-cle, based on the opinions of faculty members and students, the education system that has completely changed in universities with the pandemic process is evaluat-ed. The distance education system, which is thought to have an important place in education after today, has been evaluated especially by pointing out the deficien-cies and making some recommendations to eliminate them. In the research, meas-urement and evaluation came to the fore as one of the most important problems in the distance education system. At this point, it is predicted that a more process-oriented measurement and evaluation process will produce healthier results.
