Microwave backhaul networks are the dominant technology used to connect together access and core networks for their flexibility and cost-effectiveness in deployment. Unfortunately, microwave backhaul networks are susceptible to interference and are statically managed leading to poor Quality of Service (QoS) in the form of high delays and loss as well as being inefficient on energy. The use of Software Defined Networking (SDN) is proposed to address these problems by dynamically managing resources to work around the interference and remove static allocations. Two new algorithms, CUT and OptiCUT were designed to compute an optimal topology, to minimise loss and delay while at the same time reducing power consumption.

The coexistence of TV broadcasting and mobile services causes interference that leads to poor quality-of-service for TV consumers. Solutions usually found in the market involve external band-stop filters along with TV reception log-periodic and Yagi-Uda antennas. This paper presents a log-periodic antenna design without additional filtering that serves as a lower cost alternative to avoid interference from mobile services into the UHF TV. The proposed antenna operates in the UHF TV band (470–790 MHz-passband) and rejects the 800 MHz and 900 MHz bands (stopband) of 4G/LTE-800 and GSM900 services, respectively. Matching to 50 Ohms is very satisfactory in the passband with values of S11 below −12 dB. Furthermore, the antenna is highly directive with a realized gain of approximately 8 dBi and a front-to-back ratio greater than 20 dB.

Abstract

The high demands of airplanes usage are influenced by the increasing levels of people's mobility who want to trip from one city to another in a short time. However, not all airlines company could provide satisfactory services for the consumers. The quality of services provided by an airline, in terms of safety, security, and convenience, is usually known through passenger opinions. The number of negative opinions gained by airlines indicates its poor quality of service and vice versa. However, the increasing number of opinion increases the difficulty of the consumer in assessing the quality of the airline quickly. Therefore, sentiment analysis is needed to accelerate the consumer in assessing the quality of airline services. Hybrid Cuckoo Search (HCS) is a method which can be used in conducting such analysis. This method is able to group information quickly. This study aims to implement HCS in conducting sentiment analysis on airline passenger opinion data. The results show that the averaged accuracy, precision, and recall from opinion dataset of 7 airlines company at 1,000 iteration are 69.24%, 70.88%, and 77.57% respectively.

This study was aimed to investigate the performance of the workers of the Liaison Agency of the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government in delivering their services. This study employed the qualitative method with descriptive analysis. Data used in this studywere obtained through interview, observation, and document analysis. This study examined the performance of the workers in improving the quality of service and focused on the mechanism and strategy that the workers used in conducting their duties andidentification of the factors that affecting their performance. Then, all the datawere analyzed using the SWOT method and Litmust Test. The result of this study shows that the performance of the workers of the Liaison Agency of the Central Kalimantan Provincial Government is not optimal. Some of the difficulties that are found to be the reasons of the dissatisfied performance of the workers are the low level of education and knowledge and the lack of experience. Furthermore, there is only a few numbers of workers that have the technical capability, limited opportunity to improve their capability through education or training either in structural or functional form, and the limited chance to pursue higher education that caused the poor quality of service.

During the past few decades wireless technology has seen a tremendous growth. The recent introduction of high-end mobile devices has further increased subscribers' demand for high bandwidth and quality of service. The number of nodes in future cellular systems will be too large to be configured and maintained manually. Further the mobility of users, the varying nature of the wireless channel and variation in user demand systems requires optimization of network parameters and delay in configuration may cause congestion and poor Quality of Service. Due to this increased complexity and the huge scale of wireless systems the network configuration, optimization and maintenance process performed by radio engineers has become inefficient and therefore, lot of research is being done to introduce self-optimizing capabilities within the network, which is expected to permit higher end user Quality of Service (QoS) and less operation cost and maintenance cost for telecom service providers. This chapter details the key aspects related to self optimization of next generation cellular networks.

The growth of the Internet with its increasing levels of traffic, more ambitious applications and the convergence of communication technologies results in poor quality of service. New technologies such as those discussed in this paper have been developed to aid in introducing quality of service to the Internet. However, those efforts may seem to be in vain due to the heterogeneous nature of IP-based networks. This paper suggests an integrated approach to provide end-to-end quality of service on the Internet based on the use of programmable interfaces. The need for dynamic modification of policies and configurations within IP routers and switches is already beginning to emerge and that functionality will help fulfill customers' demands for differentiated services.

This chapter examines regulatory compliance, ethical behaviour and sustainable growth in Nigeria's telecommunications industry. It provides perspectives on the vexed issues of poor quality of service (QoS) that seems to have defied all practical solutions, unsolicited messages and the fleecing of subscribers by the mobile network operators, and other unfair business practices pervading the industry. The chapter wades through the controversy surrounding regulations and sanctions, and condemns the flagrant disregard for industry regulations by the mobile network operators whose actions are propelled by the runaway profit, which currently drives the stiff competition in the telecommunications industry. Based on the issues and problems articulated in this work, the chapter recommended among others, that the regulator should continue to engage the mobile network operators and other stakeholders in a robust dialogue aimed at finding lasting solution to the challenges impeding the growth of the telecommunications industry in Nigeria.
