KVMRT Challenges – Elevated Viaducts and Station Structures

<p>Malaysia’s capital city Kuala Lumpur has been experiencing urbanization growth spurts in the last two decades, in tandem with her rapid economic expansion and progress towards a developed nation. Trailing this economic trend is the need to improve and expand public transportation, particularly in the railway sector. The Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) rail transit system was conceived to meet that need and complement the existing public transportation network.</p><p>The first KVMRT metro line commonly known as the SBK line which connects Sg Buloh township in the northern-west and Kajang in the southern-east, was delivered and fully opened to the public ahead of schedule on 17 July 2017. The success of the project was achieved through significant efforts in surmounting many challenges in different aspects. This paper shares the experiences from the perspective of the Project Delivery Partner (PDP) in the planning, design and construction of the viaducts and station structures.</p>

<p>The Klang Valley Mass Rapid Transit (KVMRT) rail system is a central part of the development of the Kuala Lumpur public transportation network with MRTC the project owner and MMC Gamuda KVMRT (PDP SSP) the Project Delivery Partner. The first MRT line stretches from Sungai Buloh to Kajang (SBK) with a length of 51km, while the second line from Sungai Buloh to Serdang to Putrajaya (SSP) has a length of 52km. The majority of both lines is supported on viaducts which weave their way through the urban environment. This paper presents the development of the viaduct design for the SBK Line and the lessons learnt that were incorporated into the SSP Line viaduct design. The process of optimising the design to meet the requirements for both the SBK and SSP Lines will be discussed while some key technical aspects of the viaduct design will be highlighted.</p>

Since the early 1980s, many public utilities have been privatised under Malaysia's privatisation programme. A few, however, have since prematurely returned to government hands, among them the two light-rail transit systems in the capital city of Kuala Lumpur, STAR and PUTRA. This paper chronicles the pre- and post-privatisation events of both facilities before attempting to provide rational explanation behind their untimely surrender to the public domain. Based on publicly available material, this paper argues that neither the quality of government negotiators nor the length of time devoted to negotiating could be attributed to the bailout. Nor is there hint that political favouritism and corruption were at play. More than likely, despite the copious incentives provided to the two concession companies, the two projects proved financially unviable.Key words: build–operate–transfer (BOT), Malaysia, privatisation, light-rail transit system.

Resumen: Hoy en día hay cada vez más inmigrantes chinos en España. Como trabajan y viven en este país, a veces tienen que enfrentarse a algunas dificultades jurídicas. Por esta razón acuden a pedir ayuda a los traductores e intérpretes con el fin de afrontar las dificultades mencionadas. No obstante, es difícil distinguir a los traductores chinos formados de los que no tienen formación específica, lo que hace que los usuarios y los clientes estén descontentos con lo que han traducido o han interpretado los traductores e intérpretes. Sabemos que son múltiples las razones de este fenómeno. Por lo tanto, analizaremos este fenómeno desde el aspecto de la lingüística forense aplicada a la traducción a la vista en el ámbito jurídico castellano-chino con el fin de mejorar la calidad del trabajo realizado por los traductores e intérpretes. Esperamos que este artículo pueda favorecer la traducción a la vista en el ámbito jurídico castellano-chino. Para realizar este análisis, hemos buscado dos documentos jurídicos que se han traducido a la vista por intérpretes. De este modo podremos conseguir materiales comparables con el fin de obtener más datos para el análisis. También hemos realizado una serie de encuestas con preguntas tanto objetivas como subjetivas para determinar los problemas y dificultades encontradas durante la traducción a la vista. El objetivo es poder encontrar un método adecuado para reducir y seleccionar los conflictos lingüísticos, los problemas de lógica lingüística y de estructura del lenguaje. Abstract: The Taipei Mass Rapid Transit System (Taipei MRT) began operations in 1996 with the technical support of its French contractor MATRA Transport. The system now consists of five lines. Expected to further enhance the public transportation of the capital city, the Songshan Line, the latest addition of the Taipei MRT, was launched in November 2014 and takes passengers to theSongshanAirport. As it started service, the Taipei MRT brings more convenience to the public and becomes an internationalized transportation network. The Taipei MRT Guide (hereinafter referred to as “the Guide”) is available in 15 languages. For the public service inTaiwan, it is the most internationalized among all brochures published by governments. This study intends to analyze the multi-language support of the public services inTaiwan. In addition, it examines the translations of the Taipei MRT Guide, which is considered the most successful translations in the category of public service so far. Actualmente, Taipei cuenta con cinco líneas de metro incluyendo la que comenzó a funcionar en noviembre de 2014, la línea Songshan-Xindian, que conecta con el Aeropuerto Songshan para mejorar  las comunicaciones en la capital y ofrecer un transporte cómodo e internacionalizado. La Guíadel Metro deTaipei está traducida a quince idiomas, por ello es el texto oficial más internacional de Taiwán, dentrodel campo de los servicios públicos. El objetivo de nuestro trabajo es estudiar el contexto plurilingüístico en los servicios públicos de Taiwán, centrándonos en el campo más exitoso, el metro, a través de una comparación entre la versión en chino y la versión en español, observando la traducción en español y evaluando el aspecto práctico y su aceptación por los lectores hispanohablantes.Abstract: The Taipei Mass Rapid Transit System (Taipei MRT) began operations in 1996 with the technical support of its French contractor MATRA Transport. Management of public transportation in Indonesia, especially Jakarta, as the capital city of the country, is lagging behind the developed countries in the world and lagging behind seeing progress in Southeast Asian countries, thus directly affecting the low competitiveness of investment and the level of national tourist destinations. This paper aims to explore rail-based public transportation in Kuala Lumpur and compare with conditions in Jakarta. The method used is a descriptive analysis by tracing public transportation through comparative study activities in students of the Master of Public Administration. The results of a comparative study show that the public transportation system in Kuala lumpur especially rail-based transportation is still better than Jakarta. This is because the mode of transportation has been integrated as the Klang Valley Integrated Rail Transit, including; KL Monorail, LRT (light rapid transit), KTM Commuter, KLIA Express / KLIA Transit, and MRT (Mass Rapid Transit).

With the spread of the coronavirus worldwide, nations have implemented policies restricting the movement of people to minimize the possibility of infection. Although voluntary restriction is a key factor in reducing mobility, it has only been emphasized in terms of the effect of governments’ mobility restriction measures. This research aimed to analyze voluntary mass transportation use after the severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) outbreak by age group to explore how the perception of the risk of infection affected the public transit system. Mass transportation big data of Seoul Metro transportation use in the capital city of Korea was employed for panel analyses. The analysis results showed that in the period with both the highest and lowest number of infections of SARS-CoV-2, users aged 65 years and over reduced their subway use more than people aged between 20 and 64. This study also found that the decrease in subway use caused by the sharp increase of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases was the most prominent among people aged 65 years and over. The results imply that the elders’ avoidance of public transportation affected their daily lives, consumption, and production activities, as well as their mobility.

Aiming to facilitate the choice of transport links leading from a starting location to a destination in greater Cairo, we propose in this work a public transportation mobile (android) application to assist users of public transport. The system is a pilot application that considers the public mini-buses network in three areas of Cairo, and builds the database of the mini-bus network verified on the ground. From this database, the transportation network graph consisting of nodes and possible links between them is constructed. Upon request, the system then identifies the series of public transport possible, calculates the shortest path between the two chosen locations, and displays the bus, or series of buses, and the routes to the user, ordered by distance. The specialized algorithm Dijkstra was implemented to find the shortest route.

Passenger satisfaction is an important factor that affects the choice of travel modes for municipalities, especially in big cities. This evaluation is an important task for managers when they are considering improving the competitiveness of the public transportation system. However, passenger satisfaction evaluation is difficult as the information provided by passengers is often vague, imprecise, and uncertain. This paper aims to propose a new method, using Pythagorean fuzzy sets and multi-objective optimization by a ratio analysis plus full multiplicative form method (MULTIMOORA), to evaluate the passenger satisfaction level of the public transportation system under large group environment. The former is employed to represent the satisfaction assessments of rail transit network provided by passengers. The latter is extended and used to determine the passenger satisfaction levels of rail transit lines. In addition, a combination weighting method is suggested to compute the relative weights of evaluation criteria. A case study of the rail transit network in Shanghai is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed passenger satisfaction evaluation method. The result shows that the new method proposed in this study can not only model passengers’ satisfaction evaluation information with more uncertainties, but also determine more reasonable and credible satisfaction levels of rail transit lines.
