Birth weight serves as an indicator of a newborn’s health status. It is associated with mortality rate in the first year, developmental problems in childhood and risk of various diseases in adulthood. Even in modern era, it continues to be a health concern globally, especially in developing countries. In Indonesia, the prevalence of low birth weight has increased from 2013 to 2018, swaying further from the national target. Low birth weight is often caused by insufficient nutrients supplied by the mother to the fetus. In Indonesia, chronic energy deficiency status is diagnosed in the first antenatal care visit by measuring maternal middle-upper arm circumference with a cut-off point of 23.5cm. Meanwhile, iron level is measured via assessing hemoglobin level will be measured in the first antenatal care visit and in trimester III. This study aims to describe the factors that may influence neonatal birth weight. It is a quantitative study with a cross sectional approach conducted at Sidotopo Wetan Public Health Centre. 97 samples are collected from medical records and analysed using bivariate correlative test. Result shows that maternal age (0.20), chronic energy deficiency status (0.026) and antenatal care visit minimal of 4 times (0.49) increase the risk of low-birth-weight incidence. On the other hand, educational level, maternal parity and anemia status does not acts as risks. In conclusion, maternal age, energy status and visits to antenatal care acts as risk factors in causing low birth weight.

Background and purpose: The prevalence of low birth weight (LBW) in Situbondo District increased from 2.79% in 2008 to 5.85% in 2014. The highest prevalence in 2015 was found in Bungatan Subdistrict (11%). This study aims to determine risk factors of LBW in Bungatan Subdistrict, Situbondo. Methods: A case control study was conducted in Bungatan Subdistrict. A total of 60 infants born at the Bungatan Community Health Centre were included in the study. Cases were infants with LBW and controls were those with normal birth weight. All infants born with LBW were taken as cases (20 infants) while 40 controls were selected using a systematic random sampling. Data were collected from February to March 2016. Data were analysed using bivariate and multivariate with logistic regression test. Results: The majority of respondents were unemployed (80%), aged between 20-35 years during the pregnancy (53.33%), with parity of ?3 (66.67%), low education level (61.67%), anemia during the pregnancy (68.33%), good nutritional status (75.00%), poor nutrition intake during the pregnancy (51.67%) and without pre-eclampsia (88.33%). Parity of >3 increased the risk of LBW (AOR=6.4; 95%CI 1.66 - 24.75). Chronic energy deficiency increased the risk of LBW (AOR=5.6; 95%CI 1.41-22.57).Conclusions: Parity of more than three and chronic energy deficiency increase the risk for LBW in Bungatan Community Health Centre, Situbondo District.

BASED ON MATERNAL FACTORS ABSTRACTOne of the causes of maternal mortality is complications in pregnancy and childbirth. Pregnancy and childbirth complications can be prevented by regular antenatal care visit. ANC is a visit of pregnant women with health workers to get health service in accordance with established standards. Data obtained from Slawi Health Centre in January-June 2019 for coverage of Phase 1 visits was 82.1% and phase 4 coverage was 79%. The objevtive of this study was to determine the regularity of ANC based on maternal determinants. This  study was quantitative research with a cross sectional approach. The number of respondents was 30 pregnant women by using accidental sampling technique. The study was conducted in January-March 2020. Bivariate analysis used chi square test. The results showed that pregnant women who did ANC regularly amounted to 86.67%. The results showed that there was a relationship between age with antenatal care visit because the p value was 0.02, there was a relationship between parity with antenatal care visit with p value 0.04, and there was no relationship between pregnancy diagnosis with antenatal care visit because the p value was 0.08. Pregnant women are expected to perform ANC regularly for early detection of complications in pregnancy. Keywords: pregnant women; compliance; antenatal care

Though the health situation of Bangladesh has improved substantially over the years, the low birth weight (LBW) rate is still pretty high. The principal focus of this study was to ascertain the significant determinants for LBW. One hundred and eight LBW babies were compared with 357 normal birth weight babies. Out of 20 possible risk variables analyzed, 9 were found significant when studied separately. Mother's age, education, occupation, yearly income, gravid status, gestational age at first visit, number of antenatal care visit attended, quality of antenatal care received and pre-delivery body mass index had significantly associated with the incidence of LBW. Using the stepwise logistic regression, mother's age (p < 0.001), education (p < 0.02), number of antenatal care visit attended (p < 0.001, OR=29.386) and yearly income (p < 0.001, OR=3.379) created the best model, which predicted 86.1% and 94.4% of the LBW babies and normal birth weight babies respectively. Maternal age, educational level and economic status play an important role in the incidence of low birth weight. Keywords: Bangladesh; low birth weight; socio-economicOnline: 29-1-2009DOI: 10.3329/bmrcb.v34i3.1857Bangladesh Med Res Counc Bull 2008; 34: 81-86

Objektif. Low Birth Weight (LBW) baby is when the infant is weighed less than 2500 grams at the time after birth. Low Birth Weight baby is one of the leading causes of neonates deaths in Padang. There are several factors causing LBW babies, such as maternal age, parity, space between pregnancy, nutrition, antenatal care, anemia, low educational status, low socioeconomic status, disease during pregnancy, placenta previa, placenta abruption, congenital abnormality, and multiple pregnancies. Objective. This study was aimed to describe the risk factors of LBW babies who were treated at RSUP Dr. M. Djamil Padang from 1st January – 31st December 2019. Methods. This study was a descriptive study with a cross-sectional design. Seventy-one samples were selected by simple random sampling. Results. The results of the study describe risk factors of LBW babies as follows mother with threatening age (28.17%), nullipara parity (35.21%), the distance of hazardous pregnancies (8.45%), nutritional status of underweight (12.68%), history of risky antenatal care ( 4.23%), maternal anemia (33.80%), low educational status (73.24%), low socioeconomic status (54.93%), illness during pregnancy (76.06%), placental disorders (5.63) %), congenital abnormalities (8.45%), and multiple pregnancies (22.54%). Conclusion. The most critical risk factors for low birth weight babies are illness during pregnancy, low education status, and low socioeconomic status. Abstract: Maternal and perinatal mortality rate in Indonesia is still high. The most cause of maternal and perinatal deaths related to pregnancy and complication of pregnancy can be prevented. Adequate antenatal care is an important factor in reducing maternal and perinatal deaths. This is an analytic observasional cross-sectional study of 2268 women delivered and 2305 neonates born at Prof.Dr.R.D.Kandou Manado hospital  was used. Data is collected from medical record. This study shows that number of antenatal care <4 times is significantly associated with the incidence of severe asphyxia (p=0,003; PR: 2,047; 95% CI: 1,29-3,25) and low birth weight (p=0,000; PR: 1,713; 95% CI: 1,32-2,23). The number of antenatal care >4 times is significantly associated with operative delivery (p=0,001), this is due to Prof.Dr.R.D.Kandou Manado hospital is a referral hospital in North Sulawesi, many samples in this study are women with complicated pregnancy (26,7%). Pregnancy with complications is significantly related to operative delivery  (p=0,000; PR: 1,962; 95% CI: 1,77-2,17). Conclusion is number of antenatal care <4 times relates and increases the risk of incidence of asphyxia and low birth weight, while women with operative delivery are likely to have history of antenatal care visit more (>4 times) during pregnancy. Keywords: antenatal care, delivery outcome, pregnancy outcome.
