The aim of the research was to determine the quality of leachate water in the processing unit (IPAL) of TPA Sowi Gunung and the quality of surface water around the TPA in relation to the operation of the IPAL TPA.The method used in this research is descriptive method with cross sectional survey technique by collecting leachate samples from the IPAL unit and surface water samples from two springs around the landfill area accompanied by in situ measurements of pH parameters and continued with 6 parameter quality analysis others (TSS, TDS, BOD, COD, N-total, TOC) at the Laboratory of the Center for Environmental Research, University of Papua. The result of the research it is known that the parameters of pH, TSS, BOD, COD, N-total, and TOC in the TPA IPAL unit are categorized as under quality standards (PerMenLHK No.59 of 2016 concerning leachate quality standards for businesses and / or activities for final processing sites trash).In particular, the TDS parameter does not have a tolerance limit corresponding to this quality standard so that it becomes a separate consideration in its management considering that water with a high amount of dissolved solids> 1000 mg / L has an unpleasant taste, so it is not suitable for consumption.Likewise, the quality of surface water at 2 (two) observation points of springs through parameters of pH, TSS, TDS, BOD, COD, N-total, and TOC are categorized as under class I water quality standards according to PP No. 82 of 2001 concerning water quality management and water pollution control.

Directive 2013/39/EU amending Directives 2000/60/EC and 2008/105/EC as regards priority substances in the field of water policy was adopted on 12 August 2013. It revises crucial rules on determining the chemical quality of surface water in Europe (e.g. identification of new harmful substances, updating of environmental quality standards, introduction of a new “watch list” mechanism) and establishes new standards for the protection of water in Europe. This paper explores the legal and factual background to the new legislation on protecting water quality in Europe and takes a critical look at its most important provisions.

The quality of wastewater sugar factory produced will affect the environmental health quality around the factory. The study aimed to analyze the quality of water river and the quality of wells around the Rejo Agung Baru sugar factory in the Madiun. This study is an descriptive observational. The samples comprised of 5 sampels of water rivers and 7 samples of well water. The results of the study at the quality of water river showed that there are parameters (BOD5 and temperature) unqualified with the quality standards based on the East Java Regional Regulation No. 2 of 2008 about Water Quality Management and Water Pollution Control in the East Java, the quality of water river is also affected by the waste water, trash, agricultural waste, and other pollutants. The result of measuring the quality of water well showed that there are parameters (organic substance) unqualified with quality standards based on Permenkes No: 416/Menkes/PER/ IX/1990 about the Terms and Water Quality Monitoring, the quality of Well water is also affected by the quality of water river, a distance of toilet, domestic wastewater and other pollutants. The quality of water river and the quality of well water have decreased that required supervision on the quality of a river water and the quality of water of a well.

Drinking water in Ghana is estimated at 79%, but this only represents the proportion of the population with access to improved drinking water sources without regard to the quality of water consumed. This study investigated the quality of household drinking water sources in the Oforikrom municipality where potable water requirements are on the rise due to an ever-increasing population. Both quantitative and qualitative methods were employed in this study. One Hundred households were randomly selected and interviewed on the available options for drinking water and household water treatment and safe storage. A total of 52 points of collection (POC) and 97 points of use (POU) water samples from households were collected for physicochemical and microbial water quality analysis. Amongst the available drinking water options, sachet water (46%) was mostly consumed by households. Water quality analysis revealed that the physicochemical parameters of all sampled drinking water sources were within the Ghana Standards Authority (GSA) recommended values expected for pH (ranging from 4.50 to 7.50). For the drinking water sources, bottled (100%, n = 2) and sachet water (91%, n = 41) showed relatively good microbial water quality. Generally, POC water samples showed an improved microbial water quality in comparison to POU water samples. About 38% ( n = 8) of the households practicing water quality management, were still exposed to unsafe drinking water sources. Households should practice good water quality management at the domestic level to ensure access to safe drinking water. This may include the use of chlorine-based disinfectants to frequently disinfect boreholes, wells and storage facilities at homes.

The use of pesticides / fertilizers in plantations has become a problem in maintaining the quality of surface water. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the water quality for irrigation purposes in the Rio Apéu microbasin – Para. The physico-chemical parameters evaluated were: pH, DO, SAR, TDS and EC measured in situ and the metals Al, Fe, Na, Ca, Mg determined in the laboratory Evandro Chagas Institute, according to the method of APHA. The average levels of pH (5.51), OD (5.04 mg L-1) are indications of normal condition in Amazonian waters. The results of Al (332 mg L-1) and Fe (5.74 mg L -1) imply the leaching of sediments from the geological formation of the region rich in these minerals, even though they present values above what is recommended by the legislation. The Richard classification allowed us to define that the waters of the study area have low salinity and sodicity, so they are not restricted to use. Thus, the results of the water quality analysis in the watershed can be concluded that it does not offer environmental problems in the use for irrigation activity

The article shows the possibilities of data visualization for various samples using examples of hydrological and water management information. The efficiency of using some techniques (graphical representation of data, Shewhart control maps, box-and-whiskers diagram, and scattering diagram) for analyzing the results of water quality control of the Moscow river and some of its tributaries is demonstrated. It is shown that the methods of visual analysis allow you to visually display any changes in the quality of surface water and can become an effective tool in the organization of water use in the metropolis.


Formulation of the problem. Regulation of hazardous chemicals admission to surface water is carried out by means of appropriate water quality standards. Researching the systems of surface water quality regulation in different countries, it has been determined that there is a tendency to use standards for the protection of the aquatic ecosystem and for meeting the needs of society and industries - environmental quality standards. Such standards are based on obtaining ecotoxicological information of a dangerous chemical substance on the representatives of the aquatic ecosystem. Among them, some of the most sensitive test organisms are crustaceans from the Daphniidae family. They are used to establish water quality standards for chemicals, to assess the quality of wastewater and surface water using a toxicological indicator. It is recommended to use a standardized international methodology to assess effects of chemicals on Daphnia magna Straus (OECD No. 202) to establish environmental water quality standards in EU countries. However, in Ukraine, in water protection practice, the most popular test organism is Ceriodaphnia affinis Lilljeborg (Daphnia sp.). The purpose of the article. In order to set ecological standards for water quality of chemicals in Ukraine, the authors proposed to test the OECD No. 202 methodology using Ceriodaphnia affinis test organisms and to establish metrological characteristics for it. Presentation of the main research material. The authors tested the OECD methodology No. 202 [21] on the crustacean culture Ceriodaphnia affinis from the culture collection of the Laboratory of Ecological and Toxicological Research, the V. N. Karazin KhNU. The coefficient of variation of EC50-24 and EC50-48 K2Cr2O7 was 16,8 % and 15,9 % respectively. Based on the data obtained, the metrological characteristics of the tested method were established: the response range of the test organisms Ceriodaphnia affinis is the following – 1,45<EC50-24 <2,91 (mg/dm3); reproducibility of the results of determining the toxicity of a chemical substance – 0,18 mg/dm3 (16,1%); the error in the results of determining the toxicity of a chemical substance – 0,34 mg/dm3 (31.6 %); standard of operational control – 0,49 mg/dm3. Scientific novelty and practical significance. The findings confirm the possibility of using Ceriodaphnia affinis in a short-term test in setting environmental water quality standards in Ukraine.


In order to protect the quality of the environment and human health, freshwater assets are tremendously important in various ways. To ensure the freshwater resources in the Chittagong region of Bangladesh, we have studied the water quality parameters of Kaptai and Foy’s Lake. This research has done based on the essential surface water standard parameters such as pH, temperature, DO, BOD, COD, TDS, TSS, TS, EC, hardness, turbidity, salinity, total alkalinity, total acidity, SO42-, PO43-, NO3--N, NO2-, CO2, and most of the heavy and toxic metals (As, Cd, Cr, Cu, Co, Fe, Pb, Mn, Ni, and Zn) of two lakes namely Foy’s (Chittagong) and Kaptai (Rangamati) Lakes in Chittagong , Bangladesh. The statistical approaches to sampling were utilized for collecting samples. The samples were assembled from ten different locations of each lake. Samples were conserved using a satisfactory preservation procedure. Water samples from the surface-water assets were collected from various locations, and tide conditions and at various seasons for continual monitoring during the hydrological years 2014-2015. The results showed that Kaptai Lake and Foy’s Lake all physicochemical parameters are within the permissible limit of WHO guidelines. The results also supplied data to view, and quantify the enemy of the impact of climate alter on freshwater resources of this region. The outcomes further showed data for water quality of surface-water resources of greater Chittagong zone to match national and international quality for drinking, agricultural, manufacture and livestock requirements. A strategic water quality management plan has been proposed.

As the lake water of Yuyuantan Park of Beijing has became micro-polluted water after the cycles of social landscape and the micro-polluted water run into the Kunyu River, the research adopts a method of manual simulation to treatment the micro-polluted water with a new-type of compound pattern we call landscape-designed ecological barrier which consists of ecological pond and constructed wetland . In order to weak the adverse effects of micro-polluted water on natural water, this new-type of compound pattern forms a landscape-designed ecological barrier. After 5 months experiment, results show that the landscape-designed ecological barrier has a better removal of pollutants. The removal rates of COD, TN and TP respectively reached 65.2% ~ 73.6%, 62.5% ~ 66.0% and 70.0% ~ 80.0%. And the effluent quality can reach III - IV water-quality of environmental quality standards for surface water(GB3838-2002). In Autumn, the concentration of CODCr, TN and TP in effluent sustain at IV water-quality of environmental quality standards for surface water(GB3838-2002), and at the same time create artificial landscape water with environmental aesthetic and ornamental value, bring the benefit of water resources as well as positive ecological environment effects into full play synthetically.

In order to investigate the effects of mining pollution to LongJiang River and to know the situation of LongJiang River, we collected water and sludge samples along the river and analyzed the heavy metal content of samples. Results showed that LiDeFen factory and JinHe mining released most of the heavy metals to LongJiang River two years ago, and the upstream of LongJiang River also released some metal to the river. These heavy metals were precipitated to the bottom of LongJiang River by using weak alkaline chemical precipitation technology, and water quality of LongJiang River can reach the second national environmental quality standards of surface water now. The precipitation effects were different in different remediation sites.
