Introduction. Online learning is a well-established pedagogical paradigm that has been researched and discussed from a number of perspectives. Educators associate a variety of opportunities and challenges with online education, and recently an unprecedented global pandemic, COVID-19, made traditional classroom teaching temporarily impossible. Emergency remote teaching (ERT) is a newly emerging sub-paradigm that possesses characteristics and challenges that differ from traditional online learning.Methodology and research methods. This study quantitatively examined undergraduate students' (n = 219) perspectives on the most important attributes that are associated with ERT. Moreover, the students' satisfaction with ERT was assessed, and the relationships between socio-demographic factors were analysed. Results and scientific novelty. A descriptive analysis revealed that most students preferred a traditional on-site classroom arrangement, while they were satisfied with the alternative ERT having fully virtual delivery. Also, the study highlighted that the students rated being knowledgeable, friendly, and patient as the most important characteristics of their lecturer in these unusual circumstances.Practical significance. The current research informs educators about student perceptions and preferences during these extraordinary circumstances of uncertain duration.

The Covid-19 outbreak provided surprises and also provided challenges for various educational institutions, including universities. The government has banned universities from conducting face-to-face lectures. The government has issued a policy for implementing temporary courses online (Ministry of Education and Culture Dikti Circular No.1 2020). All universities are required to be able to conduct online or online learning. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of online lectures during the Covid-19 Pandemic for UAD Wates. This research method uses descriptive analysis method through a survey with a google form questionnaire which is conducted online. The sample in this study were students of UAD Wates class of 2017, 2018, and 2020. The respondents in this study were 15 respondents. The effectiveness of online lectures during the Covid-19 Pandemic for students at UAD Wates was quite effective in preventing the transmission of the Covid-19 virus. However, the results of the study also show that online lectures have not been running effectively, because there are still lecturers who do not conduct online lectures. The learning method used is still dominant with assigning assignments to students so that many students are overwhelmed in doing coursework.

Online education offers strong intrinsic potential for advancing and augmenting teaching and learning through broadening and deepening access. Proponents of online education further claim extrinsic potential – that it should be less costly and just as effective as traditional education, if not more so. They consider the instruction equally or more effective relative to such factors as the depth of course content presented, student outcomes and breadth of access (Duderstadt, 2000; Allen & Seaman, 2003; Gomory, 2001).1 Are these claims accurate? How would we gauge their accuracy? What data would we collect? How would we make sense of that data? As in medicine and other social domains, there is a long-standing tradition in research on education of measuring the comparative costs and benefits of different interventions or modes of operation. Prominent examples of such interventions as assessed in this manner have included curricular reform, personnel restructuring, special programs, infrastructure improvements and class size innovations. The goal of these measurements is to identify the best course of action by gauging the relative ratio of cost to benefit. Policy may then be informed by the results of those measurements. Cost-benefit (C/B) studies include a range of research that may focus on effectiveness, efficiency, utility or simply overall benefits. Policy concerns and other constraints on (or drivers of) research may favor one sort of C/B study over another. Nowhere is this clearer than in the case of online learning and technology, which by its nature is an excellent candidate for cost-effectiveness (C/E) research.

Online learning has taken center stage in the times of COVID and is being lauded as a feasible alternative for imparting education to learners. In many developing countries, the school education sector, which had rarely tried or tested the online mode, came at the forefront in rapidly adopting the online means for delivering instructions to learners. However, the question remains: Is all well with this swift adoption of online mode? Is educational access same as pre-COVID times or has it been impacted for worse? Educational access (through online schooling) largely depends on e-readiness of learners. Therefore, two fundamental points, viz. digital access and requisite digital skills among learners must be mooted before arriving at any conclusion vis-à-vis the quality and effectiveness of online schooling. It is feared that the already existing disparities in educational access will further exacerbate with the inability to access online schools. The chapter consists of a two-part study. First part, a cursory analysis of a) how school-closure affects a large learners’ segment, b) technology pre-requisites of online schooling, c) pre-existing status of digital infrastructure and digital access, and d) the governments initiatives to bridge the digital divide in India to provide a background for the study of e-readiness among learners during the pandemic. Second part, a comparative study for finding out the e-readiness among the learners in three types of schools, viz. Kendriya Vidyalayas (under Ministry of Education, Government of India), the government schools run by respective states governments, and private schools managed by private entities. The study uses a quantitative descriptive survey method on a sample of 250 students from two regions (NCT-Delhi and Bihar). A questionnaire comprising of 8 Likert-type items was administered. The findings were used to extrapolate the extent of disparity in terms of access to online education (impacting the overall educational access during COVID) between the learners of the three types of schools. The study indicates an urgent need for addressing the widening educational disparity due to an indefinitely prolonged pandemic.

School-Based Assessment is one of the transformations in the education system. Changes in the field of education also involve various assessment methods, including the use of technology. This article will discuss the implementation of technology-based assessments in schools. The Ministry of Education Malaysia recommends using technology in education to ensure that its education moves in line with modernization. 21st Century Education (PAK-21) has been introduced to ensure the education system's quality can be improved. To serve this study's purpose, a survey method through the distribution of questionnaires was used in this study. The study population consisted of form one students in Mukim 12, Seberang Perai Utara, Penang. The study sample was 210 Form One students who were selected through simple random sampling. Quantitative data were analyzed using SPSS, which involved descriptive analysis (number and percentage). According to the findings, teachers use less technology during the learning and facilitation processes. Findings show that teacher assessment methods are still conventional, contrary to the respondents' preference to use technology more often in the classroom. Teachers' unpreparedness towards using and applying technology in the classroom has resulted in the practice of PAK-21 not being successfully implemented.
