This paper reviews the meaning of the phrase sabilillah in the view of Shaykh al-Azhar, Al-Imam Al-Akbar, Shaykh Mahmud Syaltut. Discussing this phrase, Syaltut uses the maudhu'i interpretation method which is implemented in many of his works. By using the library research method, data related to Syaltut thought is collected and analyzed. From these data, the concept of sabilillah in view of Syaltut includes universal values of life established by Islamic law: goodness, justice, cooperation and compassion; and sabilillah is how to realize the objectives of Islamic law itself. With this understanding, Islamic law in the hands of Syaltut appears dynamic in accordance with the context of his era.

This study analyzed the hedonist life of the rulers in the Qur’an. Researchers used library research related to hedonism in the perspective of the Qur'an. The method used was the maudhu'i (thematic) method, which is a method in which the mufassir seeks to collect verses from the Qur'an from various surahs and those related to predetermined issues or topics. Allah Almighty has described the nature of the wrongdoers who perform hedonic behavior swaying in pleasure and luxury. Allah Almighty very hates hedonic behavior. Nowadays, hedonism seems to be an ideology for young people. They do not feel taboo to do. They claim themselves as Moslem, but the Moslem lifestyle is not reflected in their daily life. Mainly when they do their business, they change to be more materialistic and satisfy their biological need. They behave into two roles, religion yes and hedonism yes. The hedonism acts as a religious man, but at the same time, they also make status as hedonism. Therefore, when entering the world of hedonists, religion has the right to be defeated or marginalized and replaced by a lifestyle of framed hedonism.

Aim. A quantitative study on generational differences showed a decrease in optimism among the young generation (Karaivanova, 2016). The present work aims to study in detail the relationship between individualistic values, self-esteem, and optimism among the Millennial generation. Optimism is a general expectation for positive results and positive events in life (Radoslavova & Velichkov, 2005). Method. A sample of 204 respondents from 20 to 35 years old voluntarily filled in a survey containing scales measuring individualistic values, self-esteem, and optimism. The relationship between these variables was tested using regression and mediation analyses. The results were processed using the statistical software SPSS, version 22.0.0.0, and the lavaan application in R Studio. Results. The theoretical model created and tested in this study proved to have good explanatory power for the dependent variable optimism explaining one-third of its variance and gives significant clarity on the relationship between individualistic values, self-esteem, and optimism for the young generation in Bulgaria. Conclusion. Individualistic values turned out to predict self-esteem. The more individualistic a person is, the higher they perceive their competences and social image. At the same time, being individualistic, i.e. being open for change and following one’s own interests does not make young people look more optimistically towards the future and believe in the solution of every problem they encounter. Individualistic values have a positive mediated effect on optimism with self-esteem as a mediator. Having strong self-confidence makes young people have positive expectations for the future.
