The legume seed coat is the site of sucrose unloading and the metabolism of imported ureides and synthesis of amino acids for the developing embryo. The cell types directly responsible for these functions in the seed coat are not known. We recently described a convex layer of tissue on the inside surface of the soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.) seed coat that was termed “antipit” because it was in direct opposition to the concave pit on the abaxial surface of the cotyledon. Cone cells of the antipit contained numerous hypertrophied Golgi apparatus and laminated rough endoplasmic reticulum common to actively secreting cells. The initial report by Dzikowski (1936) described the morphology of the pit and antipit in G. max and found these structures in only 68 of the 169 seed accessions examined.

<p>Solar radiation greatly affects the development of plant biomass. The process of plant development is complex. Here, we simplified this complexity through modeling experiment by integrating climate variables. This study aims to determine the dynamics of canopy intercepted solar radiation under soybean (<em>Glycine Max (L.) Merrill</em>). We employed the shierary-rice model to calculate plant biomass. The results showed that intercepted radiation continuosly increased during vegetative phase, whereas the radiation remains constant during generative phase. Our observation confirmed that the pattern of intercepted radiation followed the angular pattern of sunlight. The intercepted radiation was optimum at 10:00 to 14:00 pm, and it was used to form the plant dry matter. We found that the intercepted radiation contributed until 12%. Based on this contribution, we built our crop model of soybean biomass. Our model performed well in simulating dry biomass with high R<sup>2</sup> (0.9), and as indicated by the plot 1:1 between dry matter of model and field observations. Further, the result of t test between model and observed data confirm this strong corelation (<em>p-value</em> 0.07).</p>

The cultivation area of soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merr) is increasing in Germany as a way to ensure self-sufficiency through its use as feed and food. However, climatic conditions needed for soybean cultivation are not appropriate in all parts of the country. The objective of this study was to determine the influence of solar radiation, temperature, and precipitation on soybean seed productivity and quality in central and south Germany. A multi-factorial field trial was carried out with three replicates at four locations in 2016 and five locations in 2017, testing 13 soybean varieties from the maturity groups MG 00 and MG 000. Considering all the tested factors, “variety” was highly significant concerning protein content (Ø 41.1% dry matter (DM)) and oil content (Ø 19.1% in DM), but not seed yield (Ø 40.5 dt ha−1).The broad sense heritability of protein content was H2 = 0.80 and of oil content H2 = 0.7. Protein and oil content were significantly negatively correlated (r = −0.82). Seed yield was significantly positively correlated with solar radiation (r = 0.32) and precipitation (r = 0.33), but significantly negatively with Crop Heat Units (CHU) (r = −0.42). Over both experimental years, varieties from maturity group MG 00 were less significantly correlated with the tested environmental factors than varieties from maturity group MG 000. None of the environmental factors tested significantly increased the protein or oil content of soybean. In growing areas with heat periods during ripening, protein content tended to be higher than in cooler areas; in areas with high solar radiation during flowering, protein content tended to be reduced.

Penelitian tentang pengaruh pemberian Pupuk organik cair (POC) asal limbah tumbuhan terhadap serapan hara N dan P serta produksi tanaman kedelai (Glycine max (L) Merrill) di lahan gambut telah dilaksanakan di kampus II Unisi Fakultas Pertanian Jl. Lintas Propinsi Parit 01, Desa Pulau Palas, Kecamatan Tembilahan Hulu, Kabupaten Indragiri Hilir Propinsi Riau. Dimulai dari bulan Agustus sampai bulan Oktober 2013. Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendapatkan POC asal limbah tumbuhan yang terbaik untuk serapan hara N dan P serta produksi tanaman kedelai di lahan gambut. Penelitian ini menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok (RAK) faktor tunggal dengan 7 perlakuan dan 4 ulangan, 2 tanaman dijadikan sampel. Perlakuan dosis POC limbah tanaman pisang dan POC limbah sayur kol yang diberikan yaitu 0 L/Ha, 200 L/Ha, 400 L/Ha dan 600 L/Ha. Parameter pengamatan yaitu : serapan hara N dan P pada fase awal generatif, tinggi tanaman, jumlah bintil akar, polong hampa, produksi perplot, berat 100 biji dan brangkasan kering. Data pengamatan dianalisis dengan sidik ragam (ANOVA) dan dilanjutkan dengan Uji Lanjut Tukey HSD pada taraf 5%. Berdasarkan penelitian yang telah dilaksanakan dapat disimpulkan bahwa pemberian POC asal limbah tumbuhan tidak berpengaruh nyata terhadap serapan hara N dan P, tinggi tanaman, jumlah bintil akar, polong hampa, brangkasan kering tetapi berpengaruh nyata terhadap produksi perplot dan berat 100 biji.

Heavy metals are one of the most important pollutants released to the aquatic environment by the various industrial activities. The use of these wastewater for irrigation results accumulation of heavy metals in soil and plants. So, the present investigation deals with the various concentrations (0, 5, 10, 25, 50, 100, 200 and 300 mg/l) of copper and zinc on germination studies of soybean. The different concentrations of copper and zinc were used for germination studies. The seedlings were allowed to grow upto seven days. The studied morphological traits increased at 5 mg/l concentration and these parameters are gradually decreased with the increase of copper and zinc concentrations.

<p><em>Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui pengaruh tiga jenis kemasan yaitu kemasan hermetik, jeriken plastik dan karung </em><em>beralas </em><em>plastik terhadap mutu fisik maupun fisiologis benih kedelai (Glycine max (L.) Merrill) varietas Anjasmoro selama penyimpanan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Laboratorium Ilmu dan Teknologi Benih, Departemen Agronomi dan Hortikultura, Fakultas Pertanian, Institut Pertanian Bogor pada bulan </em><em>Januari</em><em> sampai </em><em>Juli</em><em> 2016. Rancangan yang digunakan adalah rancangan acak lengkap (RAL) dengan tiga ulangan. Faktor perlakuan yang digunakan adalah jenis kemasan (P) yang terdiri atas tiga taraf yaitu kemasan hermetik (P1), jeriken plastik (P2), dan karung </em><em>beralas </em><em>plastik (P3). Penyimpanan dilakukan selama 6 bulan dan diamati setiap bulan terhadap variabel kadar air, daya berkecambah, indeks vigor, kecepatan tumbuh, keserempakan tumbuh dan bobot kering kecambah normal. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa perlakuan jenis kemasan tidak memberikan pengaruh yang nyata terhadap mutu fisik maupun fisiologis benih kedelai varietas Anjasmoro selama penyimpanan. Perlakuan jenis kemasan dapat mempertahankan viabilitas dan vigor benih kedelai hingga bulan ke-2 penyimpanan. Hasil tersebut menunjukan bahwa benih kedelai dapat disimpan selama 4 bulan setelah panen.</em></p>
