All students have to face academic pressures, setbacks and challenges that are part of their everyday academic life. The capacity to deal with this, i.e. ‘academic buoyancy’, is needed to reduce the impact of academic adversity. Since academic buoyancy may be associated with personality, our study explored the role of personality trait, especially the ‘big five’, as predictors of the academic buoyancy in senior high school students in an Eastern culture. Methods: Using quota sampling, 356 respondents were sampled from the eight largest senior high schools in Bandung, Indonesia. Five personality factors were measured using the Big Five Inventory. Furthermore, academic buoyancy was assessed utilizing the Academic Buoyancy Scale. Multiple regression analysis was used to analyze the predictive value of each trait for academic buoyancy. Result: Academic buoyancy appears to be related to personality differences. We found three personality traits which predicted positively and significantly academic buoyancy, namely Conscientiousness, Agreeableness and Extraversion. Conclusions: The study has provided a new understanding of the relevance of personality for academic student’s life. Implications and differences in relation between personality and academic buoyancy in senior high school’ student are discussed.

AbstractStudents’ difficulties interpreting diagrams remain a concern in science education. Research about improving diagram comprehension has included few studies of teachers’ orchestration of language and gesture in explaining diagrams—and very few in senior high schools. Research with younger students and studies of research scientists’ practice indicate the significance of the interaction of teachers’ gesture and language in explaining visualisations. The strategic deployment of such teacher-focussed authoritative explanations has been observed in facilitating progression to more complex and symbolic representations in classroom work. However, the paucity of such research in senior high school leaves open the question of how these teachers use gesture and language in managing the challenges of explaining the intricate sub-microscopic and abstract visualisations senior high school students need to negotiate. In this paper, we outline existing studies of teachers’ use of gesture and language to explain complex images in senior high school and investigate how it is managed by two biology teachers with images of different types and complexity representing the activity of certain cell components in the early phase of cell duplication. Implications are drawn for foci of further research including the role of a metalanguage describing different types of visualisations and their affordances.

This activity is motivated by the low level of public knowledge, especially students, regarding immigration, which includes the functions of passports and supervision of foreigners. The purpose of this activity is to fulfill community service duties by cadets who are carrying out PPL and KKN activities at the Class I Special Immigration Office for Non-TPI South Jakarta, as well as to increase the knowledge of Ragunan State Senior High School students about immigration. This activity uses a qualitative approach with a descriptive research method where the research is held at SMA Negeri 1 Ragunan which is located in the Ragunan Gor Complex, Ragunan, Pasar Minggu, South Jakarta, the Special Capital Region of Jakarta. The results of this study found that the knowledge of students related to immigration can be said to be quite low so that it requires more education on various cases in the immigration sector as well as knowledge about the active role of the community to help immigration authorities in monitoring foreigners by providing information and data. <em>Since Indonesian students come from different cultures, languages and personality traits as well, recognizing their personality traits and their language learning strategy choice might be effective to help teacher design an effective teaching strategies to achieve learning objectives. This study was intended to find out (1) what personality traits Indonesian senior high school students fell into, and (2) to investigate what language learning strategies introvert and extrovert students used highly frequently. The 58 participants aged from sixteen to eighteen years old who were from the third grade of senior high school and were all from science class were given eighteen statements of McCroskey’s introversion scale to categorize them into extrovert and introvert and were administered with 32 statements of English Language Learning Strategy Inventory or ELLSI to see their learning strategy. The data were analyzed by means of descriptive statistics in terms of mean frequencies and statistical differences. The finding revealed that majority of senior high school students majoring science study program fell into introvert with 89.6% (52 students). Besides, extrovert students used more language learning strategy highly frequently than introvert students with eight items compared to introvert students with only five items. Interestingly, both extrovert and introvert students share four strategy items in common. Although it is statistically not significant (ρ &gt; 0.05), the finding also shows that extrovert students seemed to use affective strategy more than introverts who used memory strategy highly frequently.</em>

Distinct individuals show different emotional responses and behavior in a different environment. During transitions, students tend to adjust socially, emotionally, and academically. The persons' dominant personality is a dynamic and structured set of characteristics that uniquely influence their environment, cognition, emotion, and behavior in different circumstances. Meanwhile, the word self- concept refers to the person's interpretation or view as to himself. How someone can act depends on his sense of self, which he feels about himself, including power, weakness, and personality. Previous studies do not provide precise or conclusive proof of what personality trait is correlated with the concept of self. In addition, the personality characteristics and self- concept were typically studied by college students and addressed very limitedly in the sense of the senior high school, especially in an Antique Catholic School. Hence, the paper determines the personality traits of Senior High School students of a Catholic school in Antique during the School Year 2019-2020. Likewise, it assesses the level of their self- concept in the areas of self- esteem, self- image, and self- confidence relative to sex, parenting styles, involvement in school clubs/organizations, and birth order.
