The dynamism of the landslides within the Carpathian region of Ukraine is because of the difficult engineering and geological conditions. High landslide den sity and significant population density contribute to the fact that environmental parameters worsen and require rational management. Permanent natural factors like clay flysch formation, fault tectonics, high seismic activity, and dense network of rivers mostly facilitate the active development of landslides in the Carpathian region. However, it is triggered by extreme long-term precipitation. The numerical parameters of population density, the landslide damage coefficient, and the predictive range of landslide intensification were selected to assess the ecological risk of damages in the area. The landslide dam age coefficient characterizes the tendency of the area to landslide development, considering all the factors contributing to the landslides. Risk, as a multifunctional calculated complex, includes the calculation of damage, according to which we can assess the possibility of risk for the human being while assuming the equal distribution of the population within the study area. The integral components of the risk are calculated based on the data gathered to assess the growth of risks in the future, considering the area distribution and predictive time series of the landslide intensification. This analysis has identified engineering and geological areas having the greatest risk to human life.

The scientific hypothesis about the influence of the components of the informational environment on the expansion of human development is tested. The trends in the Ukrainian information space on the level of implementation of informational technology in human life are revealed. The sample survey about living conditions of households in Ukraine in general and the oblasts of the Carpathian region, in particular, is conducted. The ways of use of Internet services by households for involvement of the population in various spheres of public activity and their influence on human development of the oblasts of the Carpathian region are analyzed. The analysis showed a significant reduction in the share of households by objectives: education and training (formal education in school and higher education, distance education, including online activities); software download. The search for information related to health issues and interaction with public authorities has great potential for human development. The paper concludes that the population of the Carpathian region is insufficiently involved in the use of Internet services. Based on the analysis of indicators of the Global Competitiveness Index, the problems in the field of expanding human development opportunities in Ukraine are described. There is mainly a downward trend in the development of areas involved in expanding human development opportunities in the transition to the information economy - education, health, labor, science and innovation. Relevant guidelines for the implementation of state social policy in this area are identified. Social policy as a direction of state regulation of the economy requires a transition from mostly passive to active and effective state social policy. It is necessary to update the mechanisms for conducting active social policy at the level of the state, various administrative, public organizations, and enterprises. Social policy must be closely linked with the implementation of internal reforms in the country (education, health, pensions, taxes and wages, etc.). Social policy measures should be coordinated with measures of other types of state policy - migration, the formation and development of the middle class, the policy of investing in human capital.

In this study, Holothuria tubulosa Gmelin 1791 was investigated from April 2013 to March 2014 in the Dardanelles Strait, to outline the morphological characteristics, reproductive patterns and the relationship between population characteristics and environmental parameters. Between 15 and 30 individuals of this species were sampled monthly from three stations. There was a negative allometry between length and weight, being gutted weight the most reliable measurement for this species. Reproductive patterns of the species were identified the first time for Turkish coasts. By macroscopic examination of the gonads, smallest sizes (gutted length) were measured as 8.4 and 8.1 cm for female and male, respectively. Sex ratio was calculated as 1: 1.1 with differences between seasons. The reproduction of sea cucumbers occurred between August and September after Gonadosomatic Index (GSI) values reached their maximum in July. The species was found down to 10 m depth with a population density of 0.21 / m2, which was rather low compared to previously reported values for Mediterranean populations of this species. There was a high positive correlation between population density and GSI of the species. The highest population density was observed where the largest sea grass meadows are found.

Tigriopus fulvus (Fischer, 1860) is a benthic harpacticoid copepod of the Mediterranean supralittoral zone. The transitional characteristics of this environment forced this species to develop high resistance to changes of environmental parameters. Nevertheless, Tigriopus fulvus life-cycle is influenced from the splashpools physical-chemical parameters. In this paper, we present the results of a supralittoral monitoring performed in 2014, confirming the influence of some of these environmental parameters on population buildups. Because of recent worldwide climate change effects, a threat might have been posed on this particularly exposed organism, whose population density decreased of a sixfold value in the last 30 years. During the three pools (A, B, C) monitoring, the maximum copepod density recorded was 1456 Ind/l (September 2014, Pool C), alongside first records of extinction event for Tigriopus fulvus.

For centuries, we have been observing the influence of nature on the conditions of human life, whose relationship with the natural environment has weakened during the period of changes brought about by the industrial revolution. However, the growing awareness of society about the dwindling resources of nature and the necessity to protect them resulted in the rediscovery of the importance of activities expressing concern for the state of the environment. It is consistent with the idea of sustainable development striving for rational management of natural resources. We also increasingly notice the possibility of using climatic factors to create optimal living conditions, taking into account, among other things, the relevant parameters of the objects. The article presents an analysis of climatic factors affecting the quality of the housing environment. These factors can be used in the pursuit of minimising energy consumption throughout the life cycle of buildings and for construction that utilises advanced technologies. Respecting the climate conditions in planning buildings of an appropriate scale, form and location is of great importance for shaping comfortable housing environments. It is planning that allows the symbiosis of architecture and the environment, which becomes a challenge of modern times.

Groups of landslides induced by heavy rainfall are widely distributed on a global basis and they usually result in major losses of human life and economic damage. However, compared with landslides induced by earthquakes, inventories of landslides induced by heavy rainfall are much less common. In this study we used high-precision remote sensing images before and after continuous heavy rainfall in southern Tianshui, China, from 20 June to 25 July 2013, to produce an inventory of 14,397 shallow landslides. Based on the results of landslide inventory, we utilized machine learning and the geographic information system (GIS) to map landslide susceptibility in this area and evaluated the relative weight of various factors affecting landslide development. First, 18 variables related to geomorphic conditions, slope material, geological conditions, and human activities were selected through collinearity analysis; second, 21 selected machine learning models were trained and optimized in the Python environment to evaluate the susceptibility of landslides. The results showed that the ExtraTrees model was the most effective for landslide susceptibility assessment, with an accuracy of 0.91. This predictive ability means that our landslide susceptibility results can be used in the implementation of landslide prevention and mitigation measures in the region. Analysis of the importance of the factors showed that the contribution of slope aspect (SA) was significantly higher than that of the other factors, followed by planar curvature (PLC), distance to river (DR), distance to fault (DTF), normalized difference vehicle index (NDVI), distance to road (DTR), and other factors. We conclude that factors related to geomorphic conditions are principally responsible for controlling landslide susceptibility in the study area.

The article examines the state of precipitation over the territory of Ukraine over recent decades. Through the example of central months of the seasons differences in monthly and average daily precipitation amounts for the period of 2000-2014 are shown. Within the most territory of Ukraine summer precipitation is almost twice as high as spring and autumn one. During all seasons the greatest amount of precipitation is observed in the Carpathian region. Distribution of average long-term precipitation values over the rest of the territory coincides in spring, summer and autumn: the highest precipitation values are observed in the western and north-western parts and decrease to the south-east. The article studies a yearly precipitation rate at low-land and mountain meteorological stations. It proposes to separate criteria of precipitation extremality depending on the regions. All extreme daily precipitation can be divided into the following categories: > 20-30 mm / day, > 30-50 mm / day, > 50 mm / day. Each category of extreme precipitation has its a certain economic risk, but the third class can cause not only economic risks, but also risks associated with human life and activities. The distinct feature of the present-day precipitation consists in redistribution of precipitation in the middle of the months, when a daily precipitation rate increases together with intervals between heavy rains. In order to analyze the changes of precipitation regime, the approach of dividing the rates of monthly precipitation amount by the rates of extreme and non-extreme precipitation is proposed. A comparative analysis of daily precipitation in different seasons and over different climatic periods was also carried out. The article studies the proportion of daily precipitation of up to 15 mm and the one exceeding 15 mm forming a part of monthly rates of precipitation over the territory of Ukraine. In January, rainfalls exceeding 15 mm make up from 5-10 % of the total amount of monthly precipitation, except the Carpathian region and the southwestern regions of Ukraine where those exceed 20-25 %. In spring, the amount of rainfalls increases and its percentage of the monthly precipitation amount is around 20 % over most of the regions. Until summer, the amount of rainfalls increases and in July its percentage is 50-70 %. Until autumn, the amount of those starts decreasing, however, the percentage of rainfalls is almost twice as high as in spring, and for most of the regions it is about 30-40 %. Such breakdown of the monthly precipitation rates into two components allows determination during a period in question of precipitation amounts we have each month. The maximum daily precipitation amounts serve as an important indicator of the precipitation regime which shows the potential danger from extreme precipitation. For different regions the threshold values of the upper limit of rainfalls taken as a maximum daily value for the period of 2000-2014 differ. In winter and spring time, the limit of rainfalls amount per day usually hits 20-30 mm for the most territory of the country. At the same time there are certain areas where the limit values of the daily rainfalls rate reach 40-50 mm. The most significant rainfalls are observed in summer. Despite the fact that the territory of such rainfalls is quite patchy, nevertheless, those areas where precipitation rate over one day may reach 70 mm are the most vulnerable and have high risks for human life and activities. In autumn, the threshold values are 30-40 mm. The breakdown of the rates of monthly precipitation amount into extreme and non-extreme ones allows determination in future of whether the precipitation regime changes because of extreme or non-extreme values. Also, in the long run, a comparative analysis of the rates of showers and weak rainfalls in the late 20th and early 21st centuries can be carried out and a tendency of precipitation regime seasonal change over the next decade can be obtained which will help us to identify vulnerable regions suffering from extreme precipitation rates.

The Sky Pond landslide dam is located in Muchang valley, a branch of the Yellow River branches. From this point it is about 6Km to the mouth of the valley from where the Yellow River flows 0.8Km downwards to the planned Jishi gorge hydropower station. The Sky Pond landslide dam is actually formed by two landslides from both the left and right bank slopes and completely blocks the seasonal river channel. The volume of the landslide dam is about 14 millions m3 with 2.37 millions m3 water stored in the dammed lake under the condition of perennial mean water level. Because (1) the dam body is large in width and thickness; (2) the dammed lake water is small both in volume and weight compared to the landslide dam; (3) recharge to the dammed lake is basically the same as the discharge every year; and (4) there is a natural spillway in the dam body, the landslide dam is present at least 750 years after its formation. Although landslide dams which have existed for several hundreds to thousands of years are generally considered as stable, there are remains which may fail catastrophically. In order to analyze the stability of the Sky Pond landslide dam and provide justification for the future engineering decisions, this paper describes the engineering geological conditions near the landslide dam and the characteristics of the dam body, and a detailed discussion of the formation mechanism of the landslide. Based on engineering geology investigation, a qualitative assessment of the stability of the dam and an analysis of the probability of dam overtopping and piping is carried out. Limit equilibrium analysis has been used to calculate the stability of the dam slope under various operational conditions. Results of the stability analyses indicate that the Sky Pond landslide dam should remain stable and does not present a potential theat to the planned hydropower station.

The District of Maluku Tenggara Barat is situated between: 07º 06’ 13” - 08º 02’ 08” South Latitudes and 131º 03’ 39” - 131º 45’ 09” East Longitudes. The Broad of Territory in the District of Maluku Tenggara ± 325,725 Ha. Maluku Tenggara Barat District was above three tectonic plates, resulting in the formation of the complex geological conditions, therefore the region include earthquake and tsunami prone area. About 30 percent of the tsunami in Indonesia occurred in the Maluku Sea and Banda Sea. Based on record have occurred BMKG station, 31 tsunami events occurred which caused a big earthquake. Looking at a fairly high frequency, it is important to assess potential earthquake and tsunami disaster in the future. The results of the study the potential for disaster if it is associated with population density, infrastructure and land use will be obtained a vulnerability. Vulnerability is needed in preparing the Regional Development.
