Work-Based Learning (WBL) is a learning methodology that combined two workplaces: educational institutions for theoretical learing and industries.for the practical. The combination of these two learning mediums can give the exposure and experience according to the field of study that can bridge the gap and mismatch between the needs of the industry and graduates produced by polytechnics. The aim of this research is to explore the experience of polytechnic graduate employability via three pilot programmes that apply WBL methods; which are the Networking Advanced Diploma, Bachelor of Facility Management with Honours and Bachelor of Computer Engineering Technology (Medical) with Honours.. This study employed a multiple case study of qualitative approach. The data collections in the field study were conducted using in-depth, face-to-face interviews and semi-structured protocol with the three participants from polytechnics. The results of the interviews have been transcribed and analyzed thematically. The findings showed that all the three programs have shown high graduate employability by almost all the graduates have been hired as a worker within six months after the graduation. Based on the results of this study, hopefully more educational programs will using the WBL method because it can help graduates to get a job after the graduation. Organisations need to perform, productivity needs to be improved and organisations’ activities need to be more effective, especially after the world economic crisis due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Therefore, the need for quality improvements is crucial in both manufacturing and service sectors. The main purpose of this paper is to present an analysis of internal communication patterns in TQM implementation in Malaysia's manufacturing organisations. This is a multiple case study done using qualitative in-depth interview technique of data collections with 14 informants representing five large manufacturing organisations. Open-ended questions in semi-structured interviews enabled informants to describe their answers based on themes. The study has been carried out in manufacturing organisations originating from three different continents; two Malaysian local organisations, two eastern and one western organizations, and all of them located in Malaysia. In selecting the informants, the study adopts a judgment type of purposive sampling techniques. Results show that the most preferable and reliable communication medium between superiors and subordinates is still face-to-face meetings, although we are in the era of technology and IR4.0. Meanwhile, telephones are popular among the administration staff. The preferable form of communication between internal-operational is formal, without denying that informal form ofl communication is also important. Keywords: Internal communication, organizational communication, multiple case study, systematic process analysis, TQM.

The idea of implementing Distance Education (DE) is to educationally serve the people who cannot be served by the existing face-to-face educational institutions due to one and some other reasons. Some of the constraints faced, as generally exposed, are in term of geographical distance and difficulty, transportation, time, limited budget, and physical disadvantages. In the very beginning stage, the learners of DE programs were adults. In the later development, DE institutions serve people not only adults but also those who are still at the school-age stage, from kindergarten to higher education. Not only the learners vary but also the technology/media used to deliver the learning contents, from the very old one (print technology) to the newest one (electronic technology). Currently many distance education institutions in developing countries use printbased technology as the main DE medium as the use of communications technologies is often cost-prohibitive. Almost all institutions in the Southeast Asian Countries that have already implemented distance education approach in their educational development still use print technology as a very important medium in delivering the programs. Even though some countries have used the internet technology as another potential alternative in delivering their distance learning contents. In this paper, the discussion will focus on the use of technologies in delivering distance learning contents, starting from print up to internet technologies.

Forty-one percent of small American retail companies fail to succeed beyond 5 years. The purpose of this multiple case study is to explore strategies small retail business owners need for sustainability beyond 5 years. This study's data were collected through face-to-face interviews with 4 small successful retail business owners located in the United States southeastern region. Based on the conceptual framework of Schumpeter’s innovation theory, the paper provides 3 strategies that may prevent failure and lead to small business sustainability: passion and determination, market development and customer satisfaction, and business model innovation.

Several empirical investigations indicate that family firms are more innovative under the founding generation’s leadership and become less innovative in later stages, while others state the opposite. Within this debate, limited attention has been devoted to understanding how intra-family succession might be an opportunity to maintain or improve family firms’ innovativeness. This paper aims to explore how family firms’ innovativeness may evolve from the first to the second generation and understand which conditions may favour or hamper this change. A qualitative approach based on a multiple case study was adopted, conducting seven face-to-face semi-structured interviews with founders and successors that formed the basis of four case studies. The results reveal four different dynamics that characterise how a first-generation family firm’s innovation capacities are or are not passed on to the second generation: decline, transformation, consolidation and preservation. Findings also show that these dynamics depend on the founders and successors’ approaches towards innovation. To better depict differences between them, we propose a typology of founders (lone innovator, collaborative innovator and orchestrator innovator) and successors (prodigal son, game changer, talent scout, faithful disciple) and explain how they influence the evolution of innovation from the founder generation to the next.

Indonesia confirmed the spread of Covid-19 since the beginning of March 2020. Until now, this virus has had an impact on almost all areas of life, not only health but also the economy, especially education. In the field of education, the government implements regulations regarding online learning systems or Distance Learning (PJJ) by means of Study From Home (Learning From Home). Online learning is a new thing for educational institutions. Many obstacles that occur include the teacher still having difficulty in determining the use of appropriate media for international learning. Another obstacle is the lack of parental assistance. Therefore, the authors conducted online learning assistance for SD / MI students using interactive learning media. Researchers used mentoring strategies and the methods used were online and offline methods. The result of the mentoring process using interactive learning media is the increased interest, motivation and achievement of students and this is an ineffective solution to online learning problems. There are many factors in the implementation of online learning assistance for SD / MI students in Guci village, both supporters and obstacles. Among the supporting factors are the talents, high interest and motivation of students, family support, school, community. The inhibiting factors are the lack of facilities or infrastructure used for learning both online and face-to-face, the lack of discipline of students during face-to-face mentoring, lack of discipline in using masks, and so on.

Pesantrens are the oldest non-formal and traditional Islamic educational institution in Indonesia. These boarding institutions are uniquely Indonesian phenomenon, not found in other parts of the world. Nowadays, there is a widespread misjudgment that the pesantrens are said to train terrorist groups, promote Islamic fanaticism, and propagate conservative culture. Hence, some of the pesantrens are changing their paradigm, that is, from conservatism to modern-progressivism, while some others prefer to remain the same. The purpose of this study was to make an in-depth systematic analysis of the roles and contributions of pesantrens in the development of rural villages in Java, particularly in Tasikmalaya district which by itself had 761 pesantrens. This study employed the multiple case-study method. The cases were three large pesantrens and three small pesantrens, all located in Kabupaten Tasikmalaya. The pesantrens were in three categories: traditional, modern, and combination. Interview, observation, and document analysis were used to collect data. Face-to-face interviews were based on a standard check list developed for the study. The findings showed that pesantrens developed and implemented their own development plans, both for their own development and for rural development, as most pesantrens located in the rural areas.

Educational institutions in the Middle East are facing the challenges for providing meaningful learning approaches for students in order for them to meet the challenges of everyday life. The current trend in education is to move away from traditional methods of covering contents and to concentrate on processes that lead to learning and discovering of knowledge. This study proposes a set of principles that were inspired by reflecting on one of the greatest Traditions of the Prophet Muhammad, known as the ‘Hadith of Jabra’il’ (Gabriel). The learning model used within a blended teaching environment consists of face-to-face and online learning activities. The model was used for assisting adult students to attain a systemic thinking for understanding two subjects in information systems. This article is based on a qualitative research method to portray a personal reflection and experience on the teaching philosophy which has a positive impact on the lives of the students.

This chapter explores the key factors for selecting quality tools and techniques in industrial revolution 4.0, particularly in the smart manufacturing context. What are the factors determining which quality tools and techniques are more applicable in specific circumstances related to quality performance in Industrial Revolution 4.0? To answer this question, authors employ a multiple case study and an in-depth literature review as the research design approach. Two key data collection methods (qualitative methods) are used: (1) Primary data from face-to-face interviews with Toyo Memory Technology and Intel Malaysia (2) Secondary data from previous studies. This review, coupled with the case study analysis, leads to the identification of the real implementation of quality tools and techniques in the industries. The chapter can enhance the reader understanding of Industrial Revolution 4.0 and quality management practices as well as highlight opportunities for further research.

This chapter reports the findings of a multiple-case study that was carried out during October-January 2013 held with 9 Iranian EFL teachers -five male, four females- from across 6 schools in the capital city of Tehran. Underpinned by a socio-cultural epistemology and utilising an interpretivist qualitative paradigm, this study aimed to explore participants' perspectives on the integration of computer and other ICT (information and communication technology) tools into their teaching. The focus was the individual and contextual factors which had influenced and shaped the perceptions and practices of these teachers. In so doing, in-depth data was collected based on a total of 36 face to face individual semi- structured interviews that were guided by 27 observations of classroom practices. Thematic analysis of the data indicated that ICT uptake by participants was seriously hampered by several interacting and interrelated areas that influenced participants' perspectives and practices.
