Purpose: The study explored the relationship between supportive supervision and empathic behavior and the indirect effect of occupational self-efficacy (OSE) among healthcare professionals in public hospitals in Delta State, Nigeria. Design/Methodology: The study is a quantitative cross-sectional survey, and the correlational design was adopted. Through convenience and systematic sampling, data were obtained from 127 healthcare professionals (doctors and nurses) from public hospitals. The sample consisted of 127 healthcare professionals with a mean age of 33.91 (SD, 5.64). Regression analysis via Model 4 of Hayes' PROCESS Macro was used to analyze the direct and indirect effect model with the help of the IBM-SPSS version 23. Findings: The study's findings indicated that supportive supervision and OSE positively and significantly predicted empathic behavior among healthcare professionals. The results further indicated that OSE mediated the relationship between supportive supervision and empathic behavior. Practical Implications: Based on the research findings, it is recommended that public healthcare administrators and managers should ensure that employees who handle direct patient care in public hospitals receive enough training in enhancing their skills, professional development and provided with enough supportive supervision in the workplace to foster empathic concern for their patients. Originality/Value: The research findings enhance and add new knowledge to the empathic behavior literature by investigating supportive supervision and OSE as predictors and checking for the mediating role of OSE.

Concerns about the environment began to rise as various issues such as littering increased. Littering is one of the problems involving the environment, and higher education campuses are also actively practising anti-littering to show their efforts. The aim of this study is to test the relationship between environmental concern, attitude and intention on anti-littering using Theory of Planned Behavior Extended Model. A total of 303 students of the Polytechnic Malaysia campus were respondents in this study and the data were analyzed by Structural Equation Modeling using SPSS Amos 24.0 Statistical Packages. Findings show that there is a direct and indirect effect between environmental concern and student’s anti-littering intention. The indirect result shows that attitude towards anti-littering behavior partially mediates the relationship between environmental concern and anti-littering intention. The implications of the research findings and suggestions for the future study are also included in the study.

Currently, healthcare professionals are particularly vulnerable to the impact of the SARS-CoV-2pandemic since they directly deal with patients suffering from this disease and are in the first line of fire, which increases their risk of contagion. This research examines the prevalence of emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and possible non-psychotic psychiatric disorders in 48 male and 270 female nursing professionals of Huelva during the COVID-19 pandemic. To this end, we analyzed the relationship between these dependent variables and considered various sociodemographic variables. The nursing staff of public hospitals in Huelva who have had contact with cases of SARS-CoV-2 in their work environment showed a poorer state of mental health than that of others of this same professional category who have not had contact with this type of situation.

PurposeThe purpose of this paper is to examine the effect of mentoring on newcomer well-being, as mediated by newcomer socialization and moderated by proactive personality.Design/methodology/approachData were collected at four time points in a sample of 227 newcomers. Regression analysis and bootstrapping method were used to test the hypotheses.FindingsMentoring had a positive and indirect effect on newcomer well-being through socialization. The moderated mediation analysis also revealed that proactive personality augmented the direct effect of mentoring on socialization and its indirect effect on well-being.Research limitations/implicationsOur data were collected in China, thereby limiting the generalization of the research findings. Future research can test our model in different cultural contexts.Practical implicationsOrganizations should consider establishing a mentoring program to foster newcomer socialization and achieve well-being. Within the mentoring context, cultivating newcomers to become more proactive can predict higher socialization levels, resulting in higher well-being.Originality/valuePrevious research largely focused on the development of the well-being of tenured employees. Drawing on socialization resources theory, this study focuses on the newcomer well-being and proposes the influential mechanism and boundary condition of the relationship between mentoring and newcomer well-being. It sheds light on exploring the well-being development for newcomers.

The purpose of this paper is to examine the relationships to which leadership style (task and relations oriented leadership) moderate the impact of conflict on employee performance. Data were collected from 92 employees in different job levels. Partial least squares variance-based structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) was used to test the relationship in the models. The results showed that task and relation conflict was associated with employee performance. The research findings also showed that leadership styles moderated the relationship between conflict and employee performance. This study offers implications for managerial practices. We applied conservation of resources theory to propose a moderated mediation model explaining how and when moral leadership influences employees' work–family conflict (WFC). Specifically, we hypothesized that both job clarity and workplace anxiety would mediate the relationship between moral leadership and employees' WFC, and that trust in supervisor would moderate the indirect effect of moral leadership and WFC through job clarity and workplace anxiety. We collected data from 258 employees of 3 companies in China, and their spouses. The findings indicated that job clarity and workplace anxiety mediated the relationship between moral leadership and employees' WFC, and that trust in supervisor strengthened the indirect effect through job clarity and workplace anxiety. Theoretical and practical implications of our findings are discussed regarding how and when moral leadership style reduces employees' WFC.

Abstract Introduction Antimicrobial resistance is a global health problem, especially in developing countries. Antimicrobial Stewardship Programmes (AMS) have been shown to be effective at reducing antimicrobial resistance and hospital patient stays. Health information technology (HIT) can support Outpatient Parenteral Antimicrobial Therapy (OPAT) through more accurate diagnosis and management of infectious diseases. Aim To evaluate the knowledge and attitude of Egyptian healthcare professionals towards the application of HIT to optimize OPAT. Methods Healthcare professionals who worked in either private or public sectors of Egyptian healthcare system were emailed and asked if they would be willing to complete an electronic questionnaire (using google forms). One reminder was sent by email each week for two weeks (two in total) from the first invitation. The survey was laid out in four sections. The first section included specific details about the healthcare professional’s current employment and role, the second related to HIT services available in their organisations, the third covered their training in HIT and antimicrobial stewardship programmes, and the fourth included their use of HIT to optimize OPAT. Ethical approval was obtained from National Heart Institute, Egypt. Descriptive analysis was carried out for all the variables. One-way ANOVA testing at level of significance P-value <0.05, was used to compare numerical variables. SPSS version 26 was used for statistical analysis. Results Three hundred and eighty-five healthcare professionals were invited to respond to the questionnaire. (The response rate was 75.34% (290)). Of these, 152 (52.6%) were pharmacists, 134 (46.4%) physicians, and 3 (1%) nurses, and many participants (30.8%) had between 6 to 10 years of experience working in either outpatient or in-patient units. Only 15.2% of respondents mentioned that they have access to OPAT in their organizations, 51.2% did not have the service, while 33.6% responded that they did not know if the service was available. However, 27.3% had a training on ASP and 18.3% had a training on HIT. Mean scores for both knowledge (14.31±5.49) and attitude (14.67±2.53) were significantly higher in professionals who had received training in HIT (p = 0.003 & 0.006 respectively). However, scores for attitude were better than scores for knowledge. Conclusions In developing countries, HIT applications in OPAT are still in their infancy with only a few organisations adopting them. Egyptian healthcare professionals showed positive attitudes towards HIT use, especially when their knowledge was improved through training. Two strengths of this study include our high response rate and the wide breadth of different healthcare professionals who responded from both private and public healthcare settings. However, being a questionnaire, some questions were left unanswered and some respondents may not have been aware of their reasons for a particular answer. That said, this study has important implications for practice, with more awareness amongst healthcare professionals required on the availability of HIT services in their hospitals and how further training may be needed on the applications of HIT in optimizing OPAT.

ObjectiveThe purpose of this study is to investigate the mediating effect of physical performance on the relationship between night sleep duration and risk of cardiovascular disease (CVD) in elderly Chinese without CVD.Methods782 participants without CVD over 65 years (average: 70.82±3.86 years, 448 women) were included in this study. CVD risk was calculated by the Framingham Risk Score and participants were divided into four groups of night sleep duration (in hours): <7 hours, ≥7–8 hours, >8–9 hours and >9 hours. Upper extremity function was measured by grip strength and lower extremity function was measured by the Short Physical Performance Battery (SPPB), consisting of balance, 4 m walk and chair stands tests.ResultsAfter adjusting for covariates, long night sleep duration (>9 hours) and CVD risk were significantly positively associated compared with moderate night sleep duration (≥7–8 hours) (β=1.152; 95% CI 0.05 to 2.25). SPPB total score (indirect effect ab=−0.122; 95% CI −0.291 to –0.0008) rather than grip strength partially mediated the relationship between long night sleep duration and CVD risk, in which chair stands played a major mediating role (indirect effect ab=−0.171; 95% CI −0.040 to –0.0006), while balance (indirect effect ab=−0.016; 95% CI −0.100 to 0.063) and 4 m walk (indirect effect ab=0.048; 95% CI −0.066 to 0.201) did not.ConclusionsLower extremity function, especially lower limb muscle strength, partially mediates a positive association between long night sleep duration and CVD risk in the elderly without CVD. Suitable interventions for physical performance and sleep may minimise the risk of subsequent CVD.

This study investigated the relationship between sustainable human resource management (HRM) practices, employee satisfaction, and customer orientation of frontline employees (FLEs) in the hotel industry from the perspective of internal marketing. Specifically, the study focused on three facets of sustainable HRM practices (i.e., training, reward, and benefit) as well as organizational empowerment and communication as FLE-supportive contexts. Although some studies have examined the relationship between HRM practices and customer orientation, they overlooked the importance of service context in facilitating FLE customer orientation. Thus, this study developed a comprehensive framework based on social exchange theory and self-determination theory. The results show that all three facets of the sustainable HRM practices were positively related to FLEs’ satisfaction. FLEs’ satisfaction was also positively related to their customer orientation. Furthermore, both organizational empowerment and communication moderated the relationship between FLEs’ satisfaction and customer orientation, which showed a positive relationship only when FLEs perceived high organizational empowerment or communication. The research findings provide beneficial theoretical and practical implications.

This study explores the effects of interactions among key stakeholders, i.e., auditors, underwriters, and firm owners on IPOs’ first-day returns in selected OECD nations. It also examines the alteration effects of legal origin (Common law and Civil law) on the relationship between the interacted key stakeholders and IPOs’ first-day returns. A total of four thousand one hundred and sixty-four IPOs from twenty-eight OECD nations are included in this study. Since it is cross-sectional data, a two-stage least square regression is applied. The empirical outcomes indicate that, in general, the interacted reputable underwriters and auditors have a positive impact on IPOs’ first-day return. The relationship is modified between common law and civil law nations, whereby in civil law nations, no significance is demonstrated except for the interaction between the reputable auditors and underwriters. In the common law nation, interactions between reputable auditors and ownership retention have an impact on IPOs’ first-day return. The research findings provide outlooks into an IPO framework for issuers, investors, and regulators. Issuers may want to weigh carefully the costs and benefits of hiring credible auditors and underwriters when going public as they act as signaling agents. As for the investors, they should take into consideration the involvement of reputable underwriters and auditors and the degree to which the IPO firms retain ownership, as the interactive effects give clear signals on firm valuation and IPOs’ first-day returns. Regulators may find the findings informative concerning the creation of a more organized regulatory and financial system that could lead to a deeper and more open financial market.
