AbstractThe research project investigates the different mechanisms and formal operations carried out by one of the pioneers of modern architecture in Ecuador, the Uruguayan architect Gilberto Gatto Sobral, for the design of the Campus of the Central University of Ecuador and its first two buildings that were designed and built between the years 19451955 in Quito - Ecuador. The research describes, in the first instance, the trajectory of the architect Gilberto Gatto Sobral through a detailed review of his works, his academic and professional instruction, and his influences. At the same time, and with the purpose of understanding the components used in his works and obtaining general design criteria at an urban and architectural level, French references and Uruguayan professors of the time are reviewed who significantly marked his thinking, in addition to the concept of Garden City and the contribution in the international modern architecture of the Bauhaus. Having understood these criteria, and to have a deeper understanding of the mechanisms used on the campus and the university buildings developed by the author, three key concepts used in an architectural solution are taken as a theoretical basis: the site, the program, and the technique. These serve as the basis for the reconstruction and analysis of the general plan of the University City and the buildings to be studied: The Central Administrative Pavilion and the Faculty of Jurisprudence and Social Sciences. As a result of the study, it is possible to identify the design criteria that the architect will apply in his future projects at an urban and architectural level, and it is also possible to give value to the modern architecture projects in the country. Keywords: Modern architecture, architectural values, Gilberto Gatto Sobral, University City, Central University of Ecuador, Central Administrative Pavilion, Faculty of Jurisprudence.

As soon as the young Lithuanian state was formed, the international situation was unfavorable (the war of independence took place) and as a result its internal life was burdened by difficulties. Therefore, the Lithuanian intelligentsia (one of their leading mathematicians Z. Žemaitis) took the initiative to organize Higher Courses (AK) in the temporary capital Kaunas. These universal courses, equivalent to the type of higher education institution (university), existed in 1920– 1922. According to the adopted statute, there were six chapters covering the basic sciences - humanities, social sciences and natural or real sciences. The existence of the latter sciences was evidenced by the Department of Mathematics and Physics, where there was an opportunity to study mathematics in Lithuanian. This article shows the circumstances of the establishment of AK, the conditions of their activity, introduces the lecturers of mathematics and shows the composition of the listeners, as well as reveals the content of mathematics studies and names the literature used for studies. During the two years of AK's existence, a solid foundation was laid for the future Lithuanian University (since 1930 – Vytautas Magnus). The staff formed consisted mainly of 1922. the core of the developing university, and the first scientific aids, books and premises were acquired - the base of the higher school. For the first time in its history, AK turned Kaunas into a university city, and the departments operating in them laid the foundations for the establishment of the university, as well as the Faculty of Mathematics.

Traditionally in Germany environmental engineering education took place within the context of a civil engineering programme. There were reasons for this: the beginning of much of what we understand today to be environmental works fell within the parameters of city engineering. There were and are advantages mostly in view of the necessary planning, construction and operation of environmental infrastructure. There are also disadvantages which become more and more pronounced as the field of environmental protection expands: the civil engineer frequently lacks basic training in disciplines such as biology and chemistry and carries a large and sometimes burdensome knowledge of other less relevant subjects. Thus, educators begin to look for alternatives. This paper deals with an alternative that was developed some ten years ago and therefore has proven viable and successful: at the University of Karlsruhe students may choose to major in environmental engineering within the context or on the basis of an economics and business administration curriculum. The basic question here is as to what extent the student masters the field of environmental engineering if he or she has predominantly a solid background in social sciences and very little in natural sciences. The paper will describe the curriculum in structure and intensity and evaluate the accumulated knowledge and suitability of these students in terms of actual environmental problems. This will be done in terms of examination performance parallel and/or relative to traditionally trained civil environmental engineers as well as in terms of topics successfully treated in Masters' theses. In conclusion, it is argued that such combination of curricula should not be confined to economic sciences and environmental engineering but also be planned for legal sciences and environmental engineering.

In this work we analyzed the mapping of Sustainable Development Goals in the curricular units of the undergraduate courses of the School of Social Sciences at the University of Évora. Of a total of 449 curricular units, only 374 had students enrolled in 2020/2021. The data presented refer to the 187 course units that had Sustainable Development Goals in addition to SDG4 (Quality Education) assigned to all the course units. Considering the set of curricular units, the results showed that the most mentioned objectives were those related to Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), Decent Work and Economic Growth (SDG 8) and Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions (SDG 16). Regarding the differences between the departments, which are also distinct scientific areas, we have observed that the Departments of Economics and Management had more objectives related to labor and economic growth, while the other departments mentioned more objectives related to inequalities, gender or other.
