This intervention study evaluated knowledge of first responders regarding the emergency clinical protocol in cases of dental avulsions and impact of an informative campaign. A questionnaire was applied to evaluate effect of provided information on knowledge among emergency service professionals regarding the management of avulsion of teeth: before campaign (T0) and after campaign (T1). Participants were invited to attend the dental trauma awareness campaign that was carried out by the researchers. The campaign addressed main doubts and difficulties regarding emergency dental trauma care. Data were statistically analyzed (p <0.05). There was significant increasing in the knowledge of professionals regarding the possibility (from 74% to 88%) and ability (5% to 32%) of first responders perform tooth replantation; about the ideal time to perform the replantation (from 30% to 59%); about the correct handling (from 52% to 85%) and the need for cleaning (from 60% to 79%) of an avulsed tooth for replantation. It can be concluded there is a lack of knowledge of emergency service professionals about tooth avulsion management. The strong message is the importance not only of identifying the lack of knowledge of the professionals about tooth injuries, but also perform the education that can significantly improve the professional knowledge.

Dental avulsion is one of the common types of trauma that results in the complete displacement of tooth from the alveolar socket. Although the ideal treatment would be the immediate reimplantation of the tooth at the site where the trauma took place, this may not be practically possible in every case. Hence, the avulsed tooth may have to be placed in an appropriate storage or transport medium until it is reimplanted. The biological properties of the storage medium have a significant impact on the success of reimplantation, as it must be capable of preserving the vitality, clonogenic, and mitogenic ability of the periodontal ligament cells for successful reimplantation.Keywords: Dental trauma, Avulsed teeth, Storage media, Periodontal ligament cell viability, Transport media.

ABSTRACT Introduction Dentofacial injuries are usually the result of sporting activities, falls at home, road traffic accidents, fights, or intentional assaults. Tooth avulsion among the victims of such accidents is quite common. Soon after the accident, most victims seek help from medical professionals. Aim This study was designed to evaluate the knowledge, attitude, and practice of emergency management of avulsed teeth among medical students in Melaka, Malaysia, and the need to include dental trauma emergency management as a part of their undergraduate training. Materials and methods A self-administered questionnaire was distributed among medical students to gather data on their profile and self-assessed perceived knowledge of dental avulsion and its emergency management. Results Of the 190 students, 187 (98.4%) had low knowledge and 3 (1.6%) had some knowledge on the emergency management of tooth avulsion. Conclusion Medical students in Melaka have low knowledge regarding dental avulsion and its emergency management. Therefore, it is recommended to introduce dental trauma emergency management as a part of their undergraduate training. Clinical significance Introducing dental trauma emergency management as a part of the medical curriculum can help educate and train the students to be competent future medical professionals with sound knowledge on first-aid management of avulsed teeth. They would be able to act efficiently and effectively, thereby reducing the extra-alveolar time and, hence, contributing to the better prognosis of such teeth. Dental trauma is very common, especially in children and adolescents. Tooth avulsion (exarticulation), which is a result of complete rupture of periodontal ligaments is one of the most severe dental injuries. The treatment of choice in avulsion of permanent teeth is reimplantation. Survival of reimplanted teeth depends greatly on the time and conditions in which teeth were stored outside the oral cavity. This report presents a case of 18-year old male with avulsion of central maxillary incisors. The teeth were reimplanted 14 hours after injury. During 8-year follow up no major complications occurred and the teeth still maintain their function, although signs of mild replacement resorption are visible on the follow-up radiographs.

BACKGROUND Health education is an essential aspect for prevention of oral health problems in school children. Dental trauma can result in damaging the tooth, periodontal ligaments, and sometimes even alveolar bone and gingiva. These traumatic injuries to the anterior teeth in young children are tragic but are an ignored problem. They can result in aesthetic and functional problem with possible impact on child’s quality of life as anterior teeth are essential for phonetics, mastication, integrity of supporting tissue and also mental and psychological wellbeing of children. This dental emergency can be best handled by the school teachers and the staff members when it happens in a school. So, the study was conducted to assess the knowledge and attitude of the school teachers regarding the emergency management of dental trauma and sensitize them on the subject. METHODS This is a pre- and post-test study performed using self - designed questionnaire provided to the school-teachers of Wardha district. RESULTS Knowledge of 98 % teachers increased after the activity whereas knowledge of 2 % of school teachers was the same as earlier. CONCLUSIONS Sensitization of the school teachers improved their awareness and attitude to manage the dental trauma and avulsion injury of teeth in school. Objective: Create and validate a podcast for dental surgeons as a guide after a dental avulsion. The validation was done through Google forms. Nine expert judges participated, following four aspects: characterization of the judges, content, functionality and appearance. The quantitative analysis was performed with Excel software to calculate the content validity index. Method: Methodological study with a quantitative and validation approach, carried out in three stages: integrative review of the literature; technology construction; validation of a post-avulsion podcast presented to nine expert judges. A Likert scale was used for data collection. For the analysis, a content validity index ≥ 0.75 was adopted. Results: The Content Validity Index presented values ​​of 0.84% ​​in its structure and presentation, 099% of high relevance for expert judges. Conclusion: The “Al Dente” podcast contains important information on dental reimplantation after an avulsion, resulting in preventive measures that directly influence health services.

Introduction: Dental avulsion is a condition in which the tooth is completely dislodged from its socket. Inappropriate management when trauma occurs can complicate the prognosis of the tooth. The majority of injuries to children's teeth occur in the school environment and teachers play an essential role in providing first aid at the accident site. However, the school teacher’s knowledge regarding first aid dental avulsion is inadequate. Objectives: The purpose of this study was to analyze the effect of an animated video (First Aid Management of Dental Avulsion) on the knowledge of primary school teachers. Materials and methods: This clinical experimental study comprised 54 teachers from 13 public elementary schools in Central Jakarta who were chosen randomly to fill out a questionnaire before and after watching the animated video. Results: Data analysis using the Wilcoxon comparative test showed that there was a statistically significant increase (P<.05) in knowledge after watching the animated video. Conclusion: Thus, the animated video was effective in increasing the knowledge regarding first aid management of dental avulsion among the primary school teachers. Keywords: audiovisual aid; first aid; school teachers; tooth avulsion

Dental trauma is common in patients assisted by rescue teams at sites of accidents and by emergency teams in hospitals. However, these professionals are given little or no information about taking care of the injured teeth and mouth. The aim of this study was to evaluate the level of knowledge of rescue and emergency teams’ professionals (physicians, Nurses, and Paramedics) concerning dental trauma first management. Material and methods: 196 professionals of rescue and emergency units had received a standard questionnaire of 5 questions concerning dental trauma first management and reserving avulsed dental tissue (tooth or its fragment). The results showed high level of attendance of dental trauma patients by paramedics, nurses, and physicians, with very low-level knowledge about dealing with such cases, and with moderate results about the best medium to reserve the avulsed tooth, and the actions taken during the rescue process. Conclusions: Our results show a high occurrence of cases of dental trauma attended by rescue and emergency medical teams, with a lack of knowledge. This suggests a need for more educational campaigns for these professionals with a long-term follow-up.Keywords: Traumatic dental injury, Tooth Avulsion, Emergence rescue teams.
