This article aims to describe whether there is a relationship between students 'self-confidence and students' speaking abilities. This study uses cluster sampling methods and oral tests. The population in this study were VII grade students of SMPN 9 Pinrang. The total population is 104 students. The sample used was class VIIL.1 totaling 28 students. The method used in speech evaluation is an oral test. The results of research using Pearson Product Moment obtained r count value of 0.700 and with the product value of r products when products with N = 28 found 0.478 at 1% significance level and found 0.374 at a significant level of 5%. To find out the level of product moment correlation the coefficient of 0.61-0.80 = substantial. This can be seen in the results of the analysis, namely: 0.700> 0.478 (5%) and 0.700 0.374 (1%) with db: 28. This means that Ho is rejected and Ha is accepted. The conclusion of this research is that there is a significant relationship between students 'self-confidence and the eight-year students' speaking ability in SMPN 9 Pinrang.

The present study aims to investigate the probable association between self-regulated strategies and self-identity changes among Iranian EFL learners. To achieve this purpose, 80 EFL students were selected according to convenience sampling from different language institutes in Mashhad. They were requested to complete the ' Motivated Strategies for Learning Questionnaires' (MSLQ) and 'Self-identity Changes' questionnaires. The findings yielded via correlation supported the theoretical expectation of a linkage between self-regulation and self-identity changes. The result revealed that there is a significant relationship between teachers' self-regulation high scores and self-confidence changes. Subsequent data from step-wise regression indicated that among sub-components of self-regulation, regulation, efficacy, and intrinsic value are the best predictors of learners' self-confidence changes. The conclusions and implications of the research are further discussed with reference to earlier finding.

This research was an attempt to prove the effectiveness of using full-English as a language of instruction in improving children’s English-speaking skill. Treatments were given in 6 meetings for each of the control and experimental class. Two types of lesson plans were arranged, one used full-English as the language of instruction for the experiment class and the other used mixed language (a combination of English and mother tongue) for the control class. An experiment with a quasi-experimental design and an oral test were used as the method and instrument. Based on the calculation of Chi-square and Fisher tests, it was found that the data of both classes were homogeneous and normally distributed. After fulfilling the requirements, the hypothesis was tested by using the T-test at 0.05 significance level. The findings discovered that t-computation was higher than t-table (+3.25 > +1.67). It indicated that the mean of the experiment class was significantly higher than the control class. The findings above led to a conclusion that the use of full-English as language of instruction was effective in improving children’s English-speaking skill. However, since the children were still beginners of English as a foreign language, then it was advisable to ensure that the English used by teachers be inside the children’s zone of proximal development. It was also recommended for teachers to use broken instead of standard English and to accompany their language input with gestures in order deliver meaning easier.

<span class="fontstyle0">This study is about code switching strategies usage as a part of communication strategies used by the EFL learners in Higher Education to improve their speaking skill. This paper presents the discussion on code switching strategies usage employed by two EFL learners to improve their speaking skill. This topic is interesting to be discussed because the employment of code switching strategies during the conversation might facilitate EFL learners to learn speaking. This happens due to the opportunity of the EFL learners to use L1 to express some unfamiliar vocabularies during the conversation. Further, by<br />employing code switching strategies in conversation learners might feel comfortable so that they have courage and self confidence to practice speaking. Thus, it is crucial for the EFL learners to use code switching strategies in the process of learning speaking so that they might improve their speaking ability.</span>
