The main aim of this article is to study the effectiveness of using Zoom technology to prepare useful lessons to improve the success of students studying foundation of foreign languages by distance mode at a university. We would like to share our analyze the experience of using the Zoom virtual platform in the process of organizing distance learning from the point of view of the students. The article presents the results of students’ surveys that illustrate the perception of students in terms of the usefulness and ease of use of the utilized software. The article pays particular attention to the estimation of the main characteristics and didactic capabilities of the Zoom virtual platform for organizing distance learning foreign language classes at a university. The article draws conclusions on the advantages and disadvantages of the software, describes the stages of work and offers methodological recommendations as well as lists the main difficulties that teachers and students at Tashkent State University of Economics have encountered in the course of language education.

The article contains the description of the bases and starting points of primary physical education and sports day in Slovenia and other European countries. It presents the motivational point of view of the students at the implementation of distance learning for a sports day. There is a graphic display of the results of an online survey that was carried out among teachers and students of Komen primary school, branch of Štanjel. Fifty students from the 1st to 6th grade and 7 teachers took part in the survey. The purpose of the article is the research about what influences the motivation of students in distance learning. From the collected data it was found out that the ICT and interdisciplinary connection have played the most important role in the implementation of the sports day. The answers of the teachers show that besides the ICT devices, the weather, the family and interdisciplinary connections are the main motivators for the children. The students were very motivated at the implementation of the distance sports day. The teachers, as well as students, have found advantages and disadvantages in the organization of a distance sports day.

In the article, based on the analysis of studies devoted to the implementation of distance learning in vocational education against the background of the fight against the pandemic and the self-isolation regime, the authors of the study highlight the main problems of the implementation of distance learning, which both the organizers of this type of education and teachers and students faced. The authors, based on the practice of implementing distance learning, indicate its advantages and disadvantages. The importance of the problem of the formation of ICT competence of teachers for the high-quality organization of distance learning, including in terms of the formation of digital educational content, is substantiated. The article presents an overview of various digital tools and web services tested by the authors that can be used to create digital content in the organization of distance learning, many of which are freely distributed and in demand among educational organizations, including professional education. The experience of the implementation of distance learning at GAPOU “Chita Pedagogical College” is described, where proven digital tools were used in the new conditions. The results of the implementation of distance learning at the Trans-Baikal State University and the Chita Pedagogical College are analyzed; both the positive aspects of this process and the problems that require further reflection and decision-making are identified.

This chapter reports on the creation and evaluation of the Language Education Videogame Evaluation Rubric (LEVER) which, it is hoped, will be of benefit to those involved in the teaching and learning of foreign languages. Based upon a sociocultural model of language development, this research is unique in the manner in which it draws on up-to-date best practice in the domains of both language pedagogy and videogame design. This chapter will then report on the application of the LEVER to two titles which have been created to teach a foreign language, in order to both to test the games for quality and the rubric itself for rigour and ease-of-use.

The major limitation for adopting e-learning systems is students and teachers perceptions of such applications. EduWave is a system implemented in Jordan, to be used by teachers, students and other stakeholders in public schools in the country. This study tried to contrast the perceptions of students and teachers and conclude to future agenda for improving the success chances of such systems. The research utilized results from two empirical studies, with 2 surveys applied to both teachers and students to probe their opinions regarding the obstacles facing EduWave utilization, the advantages and disadvantages of the system, the functionalities used, and the factors influencing the adoption. Results supported the original Technology Acceptance Model (TAM), with significant prediction of intentions to use EduWave through perceived usefulness and perceived ease of use for both teachers and students. Also, teachers and students results did not support the role of trust in the process. Conclusions and future work are stated at the end.

On November 5-6, 2019, MGIMO University hosted The First International Scientific and Practical Conference in Memory of Elena Solovova “Problems of Teaching Modern Languages”. Elena Solovova is regarded as one of the most influential and impactful figures in developing and promoting of teaching modern languages in Russia. The conference was coorganized with MGIMO University, National Association of English Teachers of Russia, Military University of the Ministry of Defence, Moscow Pedagogical State University, Esenin Ryazan State University, and Titul Publishing House. Elena Solovova (1956-2019) worked tirelessly on fostering and improving modern languages teaching in Russia. Her academic and pedagogical work has greatly influenced many peers and colleagues, teachers and students, in Russia and around the globe. She guided numerous PhD students and authored and co-authored countless publications in the field. She is greatly missed by her colleagues, family and friends.

This study aims to investigate the challenges that learners and teachers of a language face during distance learning classes, especially learners and teachers of the Arabic language as a second language, based on the results of a distance learning experiment on non-native speakers of the Arabic language at the University of Jordan during the second term of 2019-2020. The study seeks to introduce the proper solutions that may mitigate these challenges to achieve the educational goals through distance learning while teaching the Arabic language as a second language. This study used the applied descriptive approach in identifying these challenges. It concluded that these challenges significantly impact the language learning process, including mastering it, the extent of benefit, and the influence on students' linguistic progress. This study recommends that these challenges are considered when adopting distance learning as a language education method at teaching language classes as a second one. These challenges need to be considered when planning for direct and indirect lessons in Arabic language educational classes, primarily via the Internet.

Foreign languages e-learning has gained in a great importance because of growing interest in the Internet. It becomes a very popular method due to its accessibility, simplicity and availability, which contribute to improvement of spectrum and quality of distance learning in teaching English in higher educational establishments in pandemic conditions. Mechanism of education is a key process of human life, which determines the personality development. Fast pace of information technology development brings on displacement of traditional learning in higher education establishments with more modern methods including distance learning in teaching English. This article attempts to reflect the current trends in foreign language learning using distance technology. Currently, new technologies and the Internet allow the person to gain the necessary knowledge without leaving home, using a personal computer. This article considers the advantages and disadvantages of distance learning in teaching a foreign language compared to full-time and part-time education. The survey has confirmed that quality and structure of educational courses are usually much better with distance learning than with traditional training forms. Distance learning comprises all actual learning methods and suggests a large number of assignments designed for independent study, with the probability of obtaining day-to-day consultations. It uses the latest accomplishments of interactive and information technologies and gives equal educational opportunities to students regardless of health, place of residence, financial security and elitism. Besides, the disadvantages of this form of learning over other forms and the reasons why distance education may be ineffective are given and explained in the article (lack of face-to-face conversations, one-side explanation and lack of constructive skills). The student must also have certain psychological traits and technical means such as a computer and an access to the Internet. The conclusions made as a result of the comparison allow to determine the areas that need special attention, as well as to choose the most convenient tools for effective learning of foreign languages and English, in particular.

The paper describes the experience of organization and implementation of e-learning and distance educational technologies in the foreign language Master’s degree program at the Chelyabinsk State University. The authors dwell upon the advantages and disadvantages of this process and consider Microsoft Teams to be one of the promising online learning platforms. The prospects for the development of the master’s program based on the results of the survey of students, employers and teachers are outlined.
