Background: It is important to select appropriate screws in orthopedic surgeries, as excessively long or too short a screw may results failure of the surgeries. This study explored factors that affect the accuracy of measurements in terms of the experience of the surgeons, passage of drilled holes and different depth gauges. Methods: Holes were drilled into fresh porcine femurs with skin in three passages, straight drilling through the metaphysis, straight drilling through the diaphysis, and angled drilling through the diaphysis. Surgeons with different surgical experiences measured the holes with the same depth gauge and using a vernier caliper as gold standard. The length of selected screws, and the time each surgeon spent were recorded. The measurement accuracy was compared based on the experiences of the surgeons and the passage of drilled holes. Further, parameters of depth gauges and 12-mm cortical bone screws from five different manufacturers were measured. Results: A total of 13 surgeons participated in 585 measurements in this study, and each surgeon completed 45 measurements. For the surgeons in the senior, intermediate, and junior groups, the average time spent in measurements was 689, 833, and 785 s with an accuracy of 57.0, 42.2, and 31.5%, respectively. The accuracy and measurement efficiency were significantly different among the groups of surgeons (P < 0.001). The accuracy of measurements was 45.1% for straight metaphyseal drilling, 43.6% for straight diaphyseal drilling, and 33.3% for angled diaphyseal drilling (P = 0.036). Parameters of depth gauges and screws varied among different manufacturers. Conclusion: Both observer factor and objective factors could affect the accuracy of depth gauge measurement. Increased surgeon's experience was associated with improvements in the accuracy rate and measurement efficiency of drilled holes based on the depth gauge. The accuracy rate varied with hole passages, being the lowest for angled drilled holes.

Thread features of the traditional measuring method mainly adopts working gauge measurement, due to limitations in the traditional thread features measurement accuracy is relatively low, the efficiency is low, the cost is high. The thread features detection method based on digital image processing techniques using CCD to obtain basic image of thread, processing the thread image, extracting thread outline, calculating thread features through the computer, improves the efficiency, saves the cost.

Internal ratings have been used by banks to evaluate the creditworthiness of their borrowers with diverse practices. This research aims to analyse the practice of assessing (or predicting) the credit performance of microfinancing loans of a Malaysian bank and to suggest how the existing performance of credit assessment model can be improved. Logistic regression was used to investigate the predictive ability of information on business operators’ management and accounting skills as factors to predict default risk of borrowers. The combination of these information formed the three (3) models that were used in the analysis. The accuracy rate of each model was then measured. A sample of respondents was selected among microfinance borrowers in a national savings bank’s branch in Malaysia. A total of 106 questionnaires were used for data analysis. The findings suggest that good credit rating, business experience, business financial and forecasting capability are factors associated with whether SMEs will default or not in their payments. The combination of credit score used currently by the bank and the new information produced by this research increases the bank’s ability to predict default.

The automatic measuring instrument for the flatness error of the rail wagon is designed with carbon fiber and aluminium alloy, which makes the instrument handy with good stiffness. After the design for the main structure and arranging the position of sensing element, finite element analysis is used to guarantee that deformation of structure itself will not affect the measurement accuracy. The design of the automatic measuring instrument for the flatness error of the Rail wagon takes the place of tradional feeler gauge measurement, raised the work efficiency and improves the measurement accuracy to 0.1mm.
