Water supply pumping stations are among the main energy-consuming elements in the water supply system. The energy optimization of a pumping station can significantly affect the energy consumption of a water utility. This article deals with the energy optimization of water pumping stations. The work assumes several variants of optimization of water supply pumping stations through changes in the water supply system, pressure changes in the pumping station, and modification of the number of pumps. After analyzing the network, conducting field tests, and creating a model of the water supply network, the network was calibrated in order to reproduce the existing water network as accurately as possible. Then, a variant analysis was performed, and the best optimization method for the pumping station was selected. In two variants, there was a decrease in electricity consumption; in three there, was an increase; in one, there was no change. By connecting the DMA zones and modifying the pressure in the pumping station, the energy consumption of the pumping stations was reduced. On this basis, it was found that it is possible to optimize the water pumping station by modifying the pumping station and work related to the network layout.

Essence of process of water-supply of apartment dwelling house is considered. The existent state over of automation of the pumping stations is brought. The task of development of the effective system of automatic control is put by them. Possibility of decision of task is shown by the use in the system of frequency transformer that feeds the electrodrives of pumps, and also due to perfection of algorithms of the pumps rotation frequency adjusting and logical management of their switching a sequence. The practical value of the use of the system is to increase dynamic.

In this paper, the water pumping regime, as well as the water consumption regime with regard to the required quantities and the example of water consumption, with an emphasis on changes in water volume, are examined. This aims to show the functioning of the regime of water consumption, water pumping, as well as finding functional relationships between the mentioned sizes and the volume of the water reservoir. The analysis focuses on questions such as how and in what way, changes in the onset and duration of pumping, as well as different water consumption regimes affect the size of the reservoir volume. The entire analysis in this paper was done to develop a scientifically innovative, but also applicable mathematical model, which is a contribution to the profession and a good basis for further scientific research to improve the operation of the urban water supply system.

Since reducing energy consumption is a priority for an enterprise, economic effi ciency in general is directly related to the use of pumping equipment. The demand for electricity for pumping equipment will depend on various factors: the operating modes of pumping stations and installations, the equipment used measures to reduce the cost of electricity consumed, etc. The current practice indicates extremely inefficient operation of pumping equipment. Currently, a large number of pumping stations of water supply and sanitation systems operate in an uneconomical mode. Very often, this is due to incorrect selection of pumping equipment, outdated pumping equipment, the operation of pumps in non- calculation mode. In addition, pumping equipment has been installed in many industries since the establishment of production. Such equipment is morally and technically outdated. Now,technological progress allows us to use more efficient equipment and materials that allow us to reduce energy consumption. The article presents an analysis of the energy consumption of a pumping station of technical water supply on the example of JSC «Omsk Kauchuk», a variant of modernization is proposed in order to reduce the consumption of electricity by pumping equipment. The need to modernize the pumping station of technical water supply is associated with a significant service life and high –energy consumption of pumping equipment. Two pump brands were selected and a comparative analysis was carried out. Based on calculations of energy consumption and technological characteristics, the most profitable and optimal version of the D6300-80-2b pump was chosen, since the pump performance is greater and the power consumption is less than that of the JETEX DS600-750 pump, as well as reducing the wear rate of operating elements, improving the pump’s suction capacity

Under the rapid growth of world’s economy and population, the demand for water and energy has been increasing accordingly. Moreover, water and energy are interrelated and form a reinforcing feedback loop. Energy is used not only onsite of water supply systems, but also indirectly for producing materials used in the water systems. As a result, it is important to understand and evaluate the energy embodiment of water supply for sustainable water and energy management. This study uses the Economic Input-Output Life Cycle Assessment software to estimate and compare the embodied energy of one China water supply system (System A) and one US water supply system (System B). It has been found that System B in the US has comparable direct operational energy consumption with System A in China; however, System B consumes much more indirect energy and constructional energy than System A. Possible reasons for the higher indirect energy use in System B might be more administrative and engineering (maintenance and repairing) services involved, lower transportation efficiency, more self water usage within the system and higher labor rates. To satisfy the water demand for the large population, China’s water supply systems have to reduce direct energy consumption during the operation phase by conducting energy budget and adopting energy efficient technologies.

According to the Alliance to Save Energy, between 2 % and 3 % of the total electric energy consumed in the world is used for water pumping in supply systems, with the consumption reduction potential through energy efficiency and conservation measures being estimated at 25 %. In Brazil, the water supply sector corresponds to 2.6 % of the total energy consumed in the country, with pumping systems being responsible for over 90 % of the total energy consumption. It is extremely common to find supersized facilities with pump motor sets operating outside their ideal points, with it being a common practice to perform flow and pressure control through the installation of valves. The use of reducing valves inserts unnecessary pressure drops into the hydraulic system, increasing energy consumption. The objective of this work is to present an energy balance of a study sector of the Autonomous Water and Sewage Service (AWSS) of a municipality in the south of Minas Gerais, Brazil, aiming to elucidate the electric energy consumption of the system and where the reduction in such consumption may occur. For this, we measured data such as the efficiency of the pump motor sets, calculated performance indicators and water loss indices, and applied the energy balance adapted. This work presents an application of a water-energy balance with adaptations to a Brazilian water supply system, under the perspective of the energy efficiency in lift station pump motor sets.
