Stress and lack of quality sleep affect a large portion of the population around the globe, and the COVID-19 pandemic has genuinely brought attention to these problems. This study aimed to investigate whether using a virtual heart-based meditation program is associated with improved stress levels and quality of sleep among participants from the general population during the COVID-19 pandemic. We recruited 63 participants to receive an 8-week virtually conducted Heartfulness meditation program in a prospective pre–post single-arm intervention study from September 28 to November 22 2020. Perceived Stress Scale (PSS) and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI) scores were collected at baseline, at 4 weeks, and 8 weeks. Of the 63 participants enrolled in the study, 36 (57%) completed an 8-week Heartfulness meditation program. There was a significant decrease in PSS (mean difference of 6.68 with 95% C.I. 4.89–8.47, p < 0.0001) and in PSQI (mean difference of 2.05 with 95% C.I. 1.03–3.07, p < 0.0001) between week zero and week eight, regardless of Health Care Professional status. The qualitative thematic analysis strongly supported the survey results. A significant reduction in perceived stress score and improvement in sleep quality index was noted at the end of a virtual Heartfulness meditation program. Moreover, Heartfulness meditation practice may help cultivate the quality of empathy, acceptance, and individual peace. We conclude that the effects of virtually accessible Heartfulness meditation practice need to be explored further in larger studies.

Introduction: Sleeping is essential to maintain proper relationships with others, keep alertness, and execute responsibilities, among many other functions. In the medical profession, there are several studies linking sleep deprivation with a decrease in responsiveness, cognition and attention. With this study we intended to characterize the sleep pattern of Portuguese anaesthesiologists and identify independent factors associated with sleep quality in this population.Material and Methods: An observational, cross-sectional study of senior and resident anesthesiologists working in Portugal was carried out through an online questionnaire. Individuals working exclusively in intensive care units, emergency departments or with previously diagnosed sleep disorders were excluded. Socio-demographic data, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, Epworth Sleepiness Scale and Perceived Stress Scale were applied. Statistical significance was assessed using the Mann-Whitney test and the chi-square test. A multivariable analysis was performed to examine the association between the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and certain variables.Results: Among 256 respondents, 46.1% reported “poor” quality of sleep (Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index > 5). Within these individuals, 77.1% slept less than 7 hours per night (p < 0.001). Excessive daytime sleepiness (Epworth Sleepiness Scale > 10) was present in 41.0% of the sample, and the median Perceived Stress Scale score was 17.0. The independent factors associated with worse quality ofsleep were the number of working hours/week (OR 1.03, 95% CI 1,01 to 1,06), perceived stress (OR 1.18, 95% CI 1.11 to 1.26), taking sleep medication (OR 14.72, 95% CI 5.55 to 39.08), and sleep hours/night (OR 0.25, 95% CI 0.15 to 0.42).Discussion: This fraction of Portuguese anaesthesiologists presented a poorer quality of sleep, with excessive daytime somnolence, perceived stress and higher sedative use compared to previously studied populations.Conclusion: Our study characterizes sleep patterns and identifies potential risk factors linked to sleep disturbances in a sample of Portuguese anaesthesiologists. Government and institutional policies can endorse sleep hygiene practices and habits, promoting healthier working environments.

ABSTRACT In stroke patients particularly, many factors, such as sleep-related respiratory disturbances, can impair sleep. Cheap and easy-to-use tools have been created to identify sleep quality and sleep disturbances in patients after stroke. This study described the scores of the sleep apnea screening questionnaire - STOP-BANG - in patients after a stroke, and correlated the findings with sleep quality measured by the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). The scores of the STOP-BANG and PSQI were 4.3 ± 1.8 and 76 ± 3.9, respectively. The STOP-BANG scores were higher in poor sleepers (4.5 ± 1.6 versus 3.5 ± 1.9; p = 0.032). Logistic regression analysis was used to identify predictors of subjective sleep quality (PSQI) and the STOP-BANG as a predictor of poor quality sleep, with a relative risk of 1.6, controlled for age and sex. This study indicated that sleep quality was largely influenced by sleep breathing problems, which were well identified by the STOP-BANG, especially in younger stroke patients.

ABSTRACT Objective: To evaluate the quality of sleep in women with urinary incontinence before and after sling surgery. Methods: A prospective study of case series of women with urodynamic diagnosis of stress urinary incontinence. To evaluate the subjective quality of sleep, two specific questionnaires were used and validated for the Portuguese Language: Epworth Sleepiness Scale and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index. The questionnaires were applied before and 6 months after surgical repair. Results: When analyzing the Epworth Sleepiness Scale, there was an improvement in sleep quality (p=0.0401). For the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, only for sleep disorder there was improvement in quality of sleep after surgery (p=0.0127). Conclusion: Women with urinary incontinence, submitted to surgery with sling, showed improvement in both quality of sleep and sleep disorder.

Abstrak Kemoterapi merupakan salah satu modalitas pengobatan kanker untuk mengatasi stadium lokal maupun metastase. Masalah yang sering muncul pada pasien kanker payudara yang menjalani kemoterapi adalah gangguan tidur sehingga berpengaruh terhadap kualitas tidur pasien. Penurunan kualitas tidur yang dialami oleh pasien kanker payudara yang menjalani kemoterapi dapat diatasi dengan latihan jalan kaki. Latihan jalan kaki merupakan kegiatan atau aktivitas yang dilakukan dengan menggunakan kedua kaki yang diikuti dengan ayunan tangan atau bagian anggota tubuh secara sinergis. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk melihat pengaruh latihan jalan kaki terhadap kualitas tidur padapasien kanker payudara yang menjalani kemoterapi.                    . Penelitian ini dilakukan di RSUP Dr. M.Djamil Padang. Waktu penelitian ini dimulai pada tanggal 4-9 September 2019. Penelitian ini menggunakan pre eksperimet design dengan rancangan one group pretest-posttest design. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan kuesioner PSQI (Pittsburgh Quality Index) untuk mengetahui kualitas tidur pasien berupa latihan jalan kaki selama 30 menit dilakukan 3 kali dalam 3 hari. .                       Hasil penelitian dengan uji statistik uji paired sampel t-test didapatkan bahwa rata-rata skor kualitas tidur sebelum intervensi 12.16 dan rata-rata skor kualitas tidur setelah intervensi 7.16. Penelitian ini menemukan perbedaan bermakna peningkatan kualitas tidur sebelum dan setelah intervensi p value = 0,000 ( p< 0.05) sehingga dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat pengaruh latihan jalan kaki terhadap kualitas tidur pasien kanker payudara yang menjalani kemoterapi.                                       .                                                       Disarankan kepada perawat untuk memberikan edukasi latihan jalan kaki kepada pasien kanker payudara yang menjalani kemoterapi untuk meningkatkan kualitas tidur pasien, sehingga dapat meningkatkan kondisi kesehatan pasien secara umum yang nantinya dapat memperbaiki dan meningkatkan kualitas hidup pasien kanker payudara. The problem that often arises in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy is sleep disorders that affect the patient's sleep quality. Decreased sleep quality experienced by breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy can be overcome by walking exercises. Walking exercises are activities or activities carried out using both legs followed by swinging hands or parts of the body synergistically. The purpose of this study was to look at the effect of walking training on sleep quality in breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. .                     This research was conducted at the Dr. M.Djamil Padang. When this study began on September 4-9, 2019. This study used a pre-experimental design with one group pretest-posttest design. Data collection was carried out using a PSQI (Pittsburgh Quality Index) questionnaire to determine the quality of sleep of patients in the form of 30 minutes of walking exercises performed 3 times in 3 days. .                     The results of the study with the statistical test paired sample t-test found that the average sleep quality score before the intervention was 12.16 and the average sleep quality score after the intervention was 7.16. This study found a significant difference in the improvement of sleep quality before and after the intervention p value = 0,000 (p <0.05) so that it can be concluded that there is an effect of walking exercise on the sleep quality of breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy. .                     It is recommended to nurses to provide education on walking exercises to breast cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy to improve the quality of sleep of patients, so as to improve the general health condition of patients who can later improve and improve the quality of life for breast cancer patients. A good high-quality of sleep and it's have an effect on in daily existence of both the healthful and sick character turns into one of the most important cognizance of problem. Aims: The study aimed to assess the Quality of Sleep and Perceived Sleep Distractors among patients. Methods: Non-Experimental descriptive research design was conducted among 135 patients through convenient sampling technique. Modied Sleep quality Scale and Structured Perceived Sleep Distractors Perfoma was used. Results: Showed (27.4%) of the patients had poor quality of sleep, most of the patients (47.4%) were having fair quality of sleep. Most of the patients (52.6%) were having severe distractions while sleeping, less than half (44.4%) were having moderate level of distractions while sleeping only (3.0%) perceived very severe distraction during hospital stay. There was a moderate positive relationship between Quality of Sleep and Perceived Sleep Distractors NS Score(r=0.113, p=0.19 ). Further the results also indicated that quality of sleep is only associated with Patient admitted in 2 2 (department) (χ = 30.652, p=0.01) whereas perceived sleep distractors is associated with Education status (χ = 17.280, 2 2 p=0.02), Duration of Hospitalization (χ = 45.425, p=0.00), Patient admitted in (department) (χ = 28.066, p=0.03).Conclusion: The study concludes that there is a need to identify factors responsible that hinders good quality sleep among patients admitted in hospital as well as the sleep quality can be enhanced by decreasing the sleep distractors and thus it can be helpful in the early recovery of the patients

Lebih dari separuh wanita hamil yang merasa tidak nyaman karena mual dan muntah dilaporkan telah mengalami gangguan tidur selama kehamilan. Durasi tidur yang tidak memadai dan kualitas tidur yang buruk selama kehamilan dapat meningkatkan kehamilan dengan risiko, termasuk gangguan pertumbuhan janin, dan depresi pascapersalinan. Yoga umumnya digunakan untuk relaksasi dan terbukti efektif untuk mengurangi stres dan kecemasan pada wanita hamil sehingga dimungkinkan untuk meningkatkan kualitas tidur bagi wanita hamil. Salah satu bentuk latihan yoga pada ibu hamil adalah pranayama dan postur yoga restoratif. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui apakah pranayama dan postur yoga restoratif efektif untuk meningkatkan kualitas tidur pada wanita hamil. Studi quasy eksperimental dengan kelompok kontrol ini dilakukan pada 58 wanita hamil dengan mual muntah yang didapatkan dengan metode purposive sampling. Responden dibagi menjadi dua kelompok, 29 responden di setiap kelompok. Pranayama dan postur yoga restoratif diberikan pada kelompok intervensi dalam 30 menit selama 7 hari terus menerus. Kualitas tidur diukur oleh Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Hasil analisis data menggunakan uji Chi-Square menunjukkan bahwa tidak ada perbedaan dalam skor kualitas tidur ibu hamil sebelum dan sesudah diberi pranayama dan postur yoga restoratif (p>0.05). Wanita hamil trimester kedua dan ketiga yang mengalami mual dan muntah dalam penelitian ini tampaknya tidak mengalami peningkatan kualitas tidur setelah melakukan pranayama dan postur yoga restoratif. The current research aims to prove the impact of resilience on sleep quality and to investigate the mediating function of perceived stress in the paths from resilience to sleep quality among disabled Chinese elders. The participants were 196 elders with visual and physical disability who resided in the nursing houses in Shanghai, including 102 males and 94 females whose mean age was 74.5 years old (standard deviation = 6.81). All the elders were measured with the 10-item Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), and Perceived Stress Scale. The results showed that all the demographic variables were significantly related to perceived stress and PSQI scores. High levels of resilience could significantly enhance the quality of sleep in disabled Chinese elders. In addition, the two-step mediation models also confirmed the impact of resilience on sleep quality as mediated through perceived stress in this special aged population. Better knowledge on the mechanisms of sleep quality among older adults could benefit the prevention and treatment of some geriatric diseases.

Introduction: the COVID-19 pandemic incited unprecedented global restrictions on society’s behavior. Home detachment and isolation measures applied during the COVID-19 pandemic can result in problems with sleep quality. It is an important measure to reduce the risk of infection from the COVID-19 outbreak. Objective: to investigate the existence of a difference between the quality of sleep before and during the home distance imposed by the Covid-19 pandemic. Methods: cross-sectional web-based survey was sent using different conventional social media to collect data from the study population. The evaluated group was composed of 124 subjects, 57 of whom were male and 67 were female from the city of Rio Branco / AC. For this study, the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index questionnaire (PSQI-BR) and a socio-demographic questionnaire were used. The volunteers received a link along with the description and purpose of the study. Finally, data analysis was performed using SPSS 22.0 software. Results: sleep quality worsened significantly during home distance in four sleep components (subjective sleep quality, sleep latency, sleep drowsiness and overall PSQI score). During social distance, poor sleep was greater among respondents (OR = 5.68; 95% CI = 1.80–17.82; p = 0.70). Conclusion: the results indicated that there was a significant difference between the quality of sleep before and during home detachment and sleep disturbance and the subjective quality of sleep before and during the period of the outbreak of COVID-19 were the components that most worsened in the state of sleep
