Cutaneous plantar warts may be treated using several optional methods, with the use of laser surgery having increased in the last few years. This work examined the efficacy of laser treatment combined with simple cooling to reduce pain. The cure rate was approximately 84%. There were no significant differences in the efficacy of treatment for different viral genotypes. The laser parameters were 500 msec pulses, 30 W of power, and a fluence of 212 J/cm2 delivered in up to four sessions. Successful treatment was achieved after an average of 3.6 sessions.

OBJECTIVE: In this study we sought to define the histologic changes produced by laser treatment of inferior turbinates. STUDY DESIGN: Eight inferior turbinates with prior laser treatment (mean, 26.8 months) were analyzed by light microscopy after turbinectomy for relief of refractory nasal obstruction. Histologic findings were compared with those of a group of 8 hypertrophic inferior turbinates that had no previous laser surgery. RESULTS: Laser-treated areas of the inferior turbinates demonstrated a histologically bland appearance, with marked diminution of seromucinous glands and relative preponderance of connective tissue matrix. Prominence of venous sinusoids was also significantly reduced in the laser-treated areas. Surface epithelium including goblet cells was reconstituted over the areas of laser application. CONCLUSION: Clinical laser surgery of the inferior turbinate produces striking long-term histologic changes. SIGNIFICANCE: The data suggest a differential response of turbinate histologic components to application of laser energy, with the glandular component being particularly sensitive. Further correlative study is needed to clarify the clinical significance of laser-induced histologic changes in inferior turbinates.

The aim: Facial and leg telangiectasia are usual cosmetic concern for females who have different skin phototypes and ages. Until now, the various treatments for these problem have frequently failed or led to unwanted side-effects. Based on approved pre-calculated doses, the present study highlights the clinical effects and safety of treatment after using the exact laser parameters from 1064-nm Nd: YAG laser. Materials and methods: Twenty people with facial and leg telangiectasia underwent a single laser treatment, based on pre-calculated laser parameters for each case. Results: All subjects showed visible improvement, with 95–100% clearance of face telangiectasia directly after the first treatment, and 50–100% clearance of the lower extremity vessels after one to three days; with minimal side-effects. Conclusions: Treatment of facial and leg telangiectasia by using true, exact, and mathematically pre-calculated parameters of long pulse 1064 nm Nd: YAG laser was an effective and safe procedure of clearing face and leg telangiectasia.

Four consecutive female patients (age: 14–47 years) with laryngeal amyloidosis, treated with endoscopic CO2-laser surgery, entered the study. All patients underwent periodic microlaryngoscopies following surgery to confirm the adequacy of the surgical resection. Recurrences or suspected lesions were resected and fibrin deposits were removed to prevent the formation of synechiae or healing adhesions. After two negative microlaryngoscopies, performed two months apart, the patients were followed-up approximately every six months over a period from six months to 18 years, with no evidence of recurrences. The endoscopic CO2-laser technique is highly effective in the treatment of localized laryngeal amyloidosis.

Common warts, particularly plantar warts, are difficult to treat at the best of times and are likely to be even more difficult to treat when the patient is HIV positive. This case report highlights the successful treatment of profuse common warts of both hands and both feet in an HIV-positive patient using imiquimod 5% cream, following unsuccessful regular cryocautery therapy.
