Ceramic fiber photocatalysts fabricated by electrospinning hold great potential in alleviating global environmental and energy issues. However, many challenges remain in improving their photocatalytic efficiencies, such as the limited carrier lifetime and solar energy utilization. To overcome these predicaments, various smart strategies have been invented and realized in ceramic fiber photocatalysts. This review firstly attempts to summarize the fundamental principles and bottlenecks of photocatalytic processes. Subsequently, the approaches of doping, surface plasmon resonance, and up-conversion fluorescent to enlarge the light absorption range realized by precursor composition design, electrospinning parameter control, and proper post heat-treatment process are systematically introduced. Furthermore, methods and achievements of prolonging the lifetime of photogenerated carriers in electrospun ceramic fiber photocatalysts by means of introducing heterostructure and defective composition are reviewed in this article. This review ends with a summary and some perspectives on the future directions of ceramic fiber photocatalysts.

The final microstructure of DP and TRIP assisted steels can evolve after hot working (hot rolling) or during post heat treatment process. In the formation of the final structure a number of different technological parameters have important role, e.g. finishing temperature of rolling, cooling rates, temperature of intercritical annealing, etc. As a result of the individual factors and their combinations a lot of production technology routes are feasible. The effect of the different combinations of these technological parameters on the microstructure can be mapped by a special Jominy end-quench test (so called intercritical Jominy end-quench test) described in this paper. Unlike the traditional Jominy test, in this case there is a partial austenizing between A1 and A3 temperatures which results in a given amount of ferrite in the microstructure before quenching. The amount of ferrite depends on the temperature. In some cases the quenching process was interrupted for a given period of time in order to model the cooling process on the run-out table. During cooling each point of the Jominy specimen has a different cooling rate, so the effect of cooling rate on the microstructure can be evaluated along the length of the specimen.

The design of a plane-type, bidirectional thermal diode is presented. This diode is composed of two vertical plates and several fluid-filled loops with their horizontal segments soldered to the vertical plates. This invention is simple in construction and low in cost. The direction of heat transfer in the invented thermal diode can be easily reversed. These features of the present invention make it very attractive to solar energy utilization. Natural convection analysis for thermosyphon operations was adopted for heat transfer calculations of the fluid-filled loops. A one-dimensional heat transfer analysis was employed to estimate the heat transfer rate and ratio of heat transfer rates of the diode under forward and reverse bias.

This paper reports analytical review results on the global and national importance of solar energy as a clean and renewable source of energy. Pre-monsoon and post monsoon seasons have higher mean monthly sunshine duration (about 8 hours/day) than summer (about 5 hours/day) and winter (about 7 hours/day) seasons in Kathmandu. The lowest sunshine duration during summer season is attributed to the effect of monsoonal clouds during that period. Pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons receive solar energy of about 250 W/m2 and 200 W/m2 respectively. The winter season receives the least amount of solar radiation (about 150 W/m2). Results show high prospect of solar energy utilization both in rural and urban areas of Nepal.
