This paper presents an estimation of the adsorptive potential of multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) and modified poly (acrylonitrile-co-styrene) with activated carbon for the uptake of reactive red 35 (RR35) dye from aqueous solution by a batch system. MWCNT adsorbent was synthesized by encapsulation via in situ polymerization. The copolymer material of poly (acrylonitrile-styrene) P (AN-co-ST) was prepared in a ratio of 2:1 V/V by the precipitation polymerization process. The prepared composites’ properties were characterized by FTIR, SEM, Raman, mean particle size (PSA), and XRD analysis. The PSA of the copolymeric material was determined to be 450.5 and 994 nm for MWCNTs and P(AN-co-St)/AC, respectively. Moreover, the influences of different factors, for example pH (2–10), adsorbents dosage (0.005–0.04 g), contact time (5–120 min), initial dye concentration (10–50 mg L−1), and temperature (25–55 °C). The optimum values were determined to be 2 and 4 pH, 10 mg L−1 of RR35 dye, and 0.04 g of adsorbents at early contact time. Furthermore, the adsorption isotherm was studied using Langmuir, Freundlich, Tempkin, and Halsey models. Maximum capacity qmax for MWCNTS and P (AN-co-St)/AC was 256.41 and 30.30 mg g−1, respectively. The investigational kinetic study was appropriated well via a pseudo second-order model with a correlation coefficient around 0.99. Thermodynamic study displayed that the removal of RR35 is exothermic, a spontaneous and physisorption system. The adsorption efficiency reduced to around 54–55% of the RR35 after four cycles of reuse of the adsorbents at 120 min.

The authors report the preparation of the nanocomposite comprising of vanadium pentoxide (V2O5) and selenium (Se) nanoparticles and functionalized multiwalled carbon nanotubes (MWCNTs) (V2O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs). Since Se NPs possesses extraordinary physicochemical properties including larger surface area with higher adsorption capacity, V2O5 NPs were adsorbed onto Se NPs surface through physisorption process (designated as V2O5@Se NPs). The nanocomposite synthesized hydrothermally was evaluated for its antimicrobial activity. The morphology and microstructure of the nanocomposite were characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and X-ray diffraction (XRD) analysis, respectively. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and UV-Visible spectroscopy (UV-Vis) were employed to analyze the spectral properties of nanocomposite. The microbicidal efficacy of nanocomposite was tested against Gram-negative (G-)ZGram-positive (G+) bacteria and fungus. This is the first report on the synthesis of V2O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs nanocomposites by chemical method that showed microbicidal effect on micro-organisms. The thiol (-SH) units facilitates the enrichment of V2O5@Se NPs onto MWCNTs surface. Ultimately, it reflects on the significant antimicrobial activity of V2O5@Se NPs/MWCNTs.

Electrochemical double layer capacitors (EDLCs) are promising high power energy sources for many different applications where high power density, high cycle efficiency and long cycle life are needed. However, because the energy density of EDLCs is small compared to that of rechargeable batteries one needs to increase the capacitance of EDLCs. The nanofiber diameters range from 50 nm to 400 nm, depending on the concentration of polymer solution types, tip-to-collector distance, applied voltage, and viscosity of the solution. The main advantage of the electrospinning process is that it is a simple means to prepare continuous fibers with unusually large surface to volume ratios and pore structure surfaces. So, feature of nanofiber webs are the high specific surface area developed by creating pores on the nanofiber surface. In this work, the multiwalled carbon nanotubes embedded polyacrylonitrile solutions in N,N-dimethylformamide (DMF) were electrospun to be webs consisting of 350 nm ultrafine nanofibers, which were used to produce a series of activated carbon nanofibers with developed mesoporosity and high electrical conductivity through stabilization, carbonization-activation processes.
