Land use and transport integration has been considered a must-have approach in achieving sustainable urban development. However, successful applications of the concept have been few, as institutional reforms to support land use and transport integration have lagged behind. Accordingly, this article argues that understanding difficulties in land use and transport integration requires an analysis of the long-term evolution of formal and informal institutional frameworks in planning practices. For this purpose, this article presents a case study of land use and transport planning in Finland’s Helsinki Metropolitan Region, which combines interview research on planners’ perceptions with a document analysis of the historical trajectories of the region’s plans, policy documents and related institutional and organizational changes. The historical-institutional approach of the article draws on discursive institutionalism as a novel analytical approach for studying how land use and transport integration is institutionally conditioned.

Abstract The present paper focuses on spatial management regulations in order to carry out investment in the field of airport facilities. The construction, upgrades, and maintenance of airports falls within the area of responsibility of local authorities. This task poses a great challenge in terms of organisation and finances. On the one hand, an active airport is a municipal landmark and drives local economic, social and cultural development, and on the other, the scale of investment often exceeds the capabilities of local authorities. The immediate environment of the airport determines its final use and prosperity. The objective of the paper is to review legislation that affects airports and the surrounding communities. The process of urban planning in Lodz and surrounding areas will be presented as a background to the problem of land use management in the vicinity of the airport. This paper seeks to address the following questions: if and how airports have affected urban planning in Lodz, does the land use around the airport prevent the development of Lodz Airport, and how has the situation changed over the time? It can be assumed that as a result of lack of experience, land resources and size of investments on one hand and legislative dissonance and peculiar practices on the other, aviation infrastructure in Lodz is designed to meet temporary needs and is characterised by achieving short-term goals. Cyclical problems are solved in an intermittent manner and involve all the municipal resources, so there’s little left to secure long-term investments.

In the last settler's syndrome, each new settler wants the area to remain as it was on their arrival. Newcomers' preferences often differ from long-term residents, and conflicts arise. To explore land use issues among various groups, a survey of opinions on mountain views was developed and administered to Watauga County residents in western North Carolina. Watauga County provides an interesting case study, because it is a growing area with an influx of newcomers along with long-time residents. The results suggest that agreements can be achieved on some land use issues, whereas disagreements will arise on others.

The research analyzed Pangzhuang mining site as case study and studied the current situation of the site from varies aspects, such as land use, economy and transportation system etc. Some strategies are further developed to recycle the declined mining site. The objectives of the mining site regeneration are established based on the study. The recycle planning contents are further elaborate from three aspects of function layout, industry development and road system. According to the planning objectives, the paper summarizes short term and long term targets.

The paper evaluates the runoff response in two small mountain catchments on the basis of a comparative paired research in the headwater area of the Blanice River, south Bohemia. The predominantly grassy Zbytinský potok and forested Tetřívčí potok brooks represent the headwaters landscape of the eastern part of the Šumava Mountains. Differences in runoff response are observed on the principle of black box from the two points of view: long-term water balance characteristics and rainfall-runoff events. Despite the average lower runoff values, the forested Tetřívčí potok brook showed a more significant runoff response in most events, mainly in wet years, and the total higher variability of runoff. It has a significantly higher runoff during a dry period. The research is based on the own data obtained by continual monitoring of the water level, discharge and precipitation. The presented study wants to assess the differences in the behaviour of both hydrological systems, especially their response to a causal rainfall.
