Reliability of power supply of consumers is an important task in the process of transmission and distribution of electric energy. The paper proposes a method for assessing the consequences of power failures of monoconsumers of electric energy on the example of an oil company and an adjacent power grid company. The uniqueness of the developed technique lies in the possibility of reliable calculation of reliability of power supply of complex branched electric networks without taking into account the specific scheme of power supply. The accuracy of calculations is increased due to the use of data directly studied power system, taking into account the specifics and operating conditions of specific equipment, instead of the average information. Classification of failures on the main reasons in electric networks of the oilproducing enterprise of the far North that allowed to develop actions for increase of level of reliability of power supply is made.

Background: Quality indicators are important tools to measure and ultimately improve the quality of care provided. Performance measurement may be particularly helpful to grow disciplines that are underutilized and cost-effective, such as home dialysis (peritoneal dialysis and home hemodialysis). Objective: To identify and catalog home dialysis quality indicators currently used in Canada, as well as to evaluate these indicators as a starting point for future collaboration and standardization of quality indicators across Canada. Design: An environmental scan of quality indicators from provincial organizations, quality organizations, and stakeholders. Setting: Sixteen-member pan-Canadian panel with expertise in both nephrology and quality improvement. Patients: Our environmental scan included indicators relevant to patients on home dialysis. Measurements: We classified existing indicators based on the Institute of Medicine (IOM) and Donabedian frameworks. Methods: To evaluate the indicators, a 6-person subcommittee conducted a modified version of the Delphi consensus technique based on the American College of Physicians/Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality criteria. We shared these consensus ratings with the entire 16-member panel for further examination. We rated items from 1 to 9 on 6 domains (1-3 does not meet criteria to 7-9 meets criteria) as well as a global final rating (1-3 unnecessary to 7-9 necessary) to distinguish high-quality from low-quality indicators. Results: Overall, we identified 40 quality indicators across 7 provinces, with 22 (55%) rated as “necessary” to distinguish high quality from poor quality care. Ten indicators were measured by more than 1 province, and 5 of these indicators were rated as necessary (home dialysis prevalence, home dialysis incidence, anemia target achievement, rates of peritonitis associated with peritoneal dialysis, and home dialysis attrition). None of these indicators captured the IOM domains of timely, patient-centered, or equitable care. Limitations: The environmental scan is a nonexhaustive list of quality indicators in Canada. The panel also lacked representation from patients, administrators, and allied health professionals. Conclusions: These results provide Canadian home dialysis programs with a starting point on how to measure quality of care along with the current gaps. This work is an initial and necessary step toward future collaboration and standardization of quality indicators across Canada, so that home dialysis programs can access a smaller number of highly rated balanced indicators to motivate and support patient-centered quality improvement initiatives.

Purpose Use of fossil fuels in automotive sector is one of the primary causes of greenhouse emissions. The automotive engines need to perform at their best efficiency point to limit these emissions. Most of the quality indicators in this regard are based on near steady state global operational characteristics for engines without considering local performance. In the present study, extensive numerical simulations have been carried out covering a wide range of steady state and transient operating conditions to quantify interaction of turbocharger with engines through turbo lag phenomena which may cause increased emissions during the load change conditions. Furthermore possible innovations have been explored to minimize turbo lag phenomena. The paper aims to discuss these issues. Design/methodology/approach In this paper quality indicators have been developed to quantify the performance of turbocharged diesel engine under the transient event of rapid change in fueling rate which has been rarely investigated. The rate of fueling is changed from 40 mm3/injection to 52 mm3/injection at 1,000 rpm engine speed which corresponds to normal operating condition. To improve quality of transient response, torque assistance method and reduction of inertia of compressor wheel have been used. Parametric study has been undertaken to analyze the quality indicators such as outlet pressure of the compressor and the compressor speed. The turbo lag is quantified to obtain the close to optimal transient response of turbocharged diesel engine. Findings It has been shown that, with torque assist the transient response of the internal combustion engine is significantly improved. On the other hand, marginal improvement in transient response is observed by the reduction in inertia of the compressor wheel. Research limitations/implications The findings indicate that turbo lag can be minimized by providing torque assistance by active and passive means. Practical implications The developed methods can be used in practice for efficient operation of vehicles. Social implications The work carried out in the paper provides a way to minimize harmful emissions. Originality/value The quality indicators developed provide a quantitative measure of turbo lag phenomena and address the above mentioned problems.

We have investigated a possibility of obtaining high-quality welded joints after oxygen and plasma cutting of steel С355 without removing the heat-affected zone (HAZ), in which the changes in chemical, phase and structural compositions are observed. Numerical and experimental studies of the effect of heat input of MAG and Submerged Arc welding on the quality of welded joints are performed. In particular, it was found that when the heat input of welding is at least 6.5 kJ/cm, the metal of HAZ of the edges after cutting is heated during the welding to temperatures above Ас3, which leads to its full recrystallization. When the heat input of welding is at least 10 kJ/cm, the edges after cutting are completely melted and become a part of the welding seam metal. The presence of extensive areas of melting and recrystallization of the edges in the welding process contributes to obtaining high-quality welded joints without removing the HAZ of the edges after cutting. To verify the results of numerical studies, experimental tests of control welded joints were conducted, which showed that the values of bending angle and impact toughness of the welding seam metal and heat affected zone are significantly above the regulatory requirements to quality of welded joints, and not less than the same requirements for steel С355. The obtained results confirm the possibility of revising domestic regulatory requirements for the steel constructions production in terms of the preparation of edges for welding using technologies of thermal cutting without subsequent machining.
