Background: Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a major cause of mortality in most countries. Many risk factors such as high blood pressure, hyperlipidemia, diabetes, age, sex, obesity, smoking, and family history play a role in CAD. The aim of this study was to evaluate the concentration of Total Sialic Acid (TSA) and Lipid Profiles (LP) with the Severity of the Vessel in patients with non-smoker and diabetic CAD, so that by measuring these parameters, effective help for diagnosis and prevention for healthy people Prone to CAD, and also control the treatment of patients. Methods: In this study, 200 individual including 160 patient and 40 control group were considered. All patient groups were non-smokers and diabetic. Patients were divided into 4 groups according to the results of angiography: Patients with Normal angiography (n = 40) with one eclipse (n = 40), patients with double stenosis (n = 40) and patients with eclipse Three vessels (n = 40). The control group was chosen from people who had no history of CAD and other diseases. The lipid profile was measured by standard methods and serum total sialic acid was measured by ELISA method. Results: There was no significant difference between the two groups in age and sex, but there was a significant difference in family history (p<0.05). There was a significant difference in serum glucose level between the patient and the control group (p<0.05), Also hs-CRP serum levels were normal in two patient and control groups. Serum levels of cholesterol, triglyceride and LDL in patient group were significantly higher than that of the control group but HDL serum level was adverse (p <0.05), Also TSA serum level in the patient group was significantly higher than the control group (p<0.05). Conclusion: Serum Total Sialic Acid level in non-smoker and diabetic CAD patients has a significant increase compared to the control group. It seems that the above biochemical parameters contribute significantly to the development and progression of atherosclerosis and CAD, by which timely measurements of these parameters in healthy individual probably can be helpful in preventing and improving CAD and controlling the treatment of patients.

Abstract Background Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a common form of heart disease that is considered a serious health problem in society. Atherosclerosis is widely recognized as a chronic inflammatory disease of the vessels and can lead to CAD and myocardial infarction. The aim of the present study was to investigate serum levels of connexin-37 and stromelysin-1 as significant biomarkers of CAD and their correlation with the extent of CAD. Methods and results Sixty CAD patients with one-vessel (1VD), two-vessel (2VD), and three-vessel (3VD) disease were enrolled in this study. For comparison with the results, 20 healthy control subjects were also included in this study. Serum concentrations of connexin-37 and stromelysin-1 were determined using commercial ELISA kits. Serum connexin-37 concentrations were not significantly different between the patient and control groups (p < 0.05). The analysis showed a statistically significant difference between subjects with one-vessel disease, subjects with two-vessel disease, and subjects with three-vessel disease. Serum Stromelysin-1 concentration was significantly higher in the patients than in the control group (p < 0.05). Conclusions The results of our study indicate that serum levels of stromelysin-1, but not connexin-37, may contribute to the prediction of the occurrence and progression of CAD.

Background: Osteoprotegerin and osteopontin have recently emerged as key factors in both vascular remodelling and atherosclerosis progression. Interleukin-6 (IL-6) is an inflammatory cytokine with a key role in atherosclerosis. The relationship of osteoprotegerin, osteopontin, and IL-6 serum levels with endothelial function and arterial stiffness was evaluated in patients with coronary artery disease (CAD). Methods: We enrolled 219 patients with stable CAD and 112 control subjects. Osteoprotegerin, osteopontin and IL-6 serum levels were measured using an ELISA assay. Endothelial function was evaluated by flow-mediated dilation (FMD) in the brachial artery and carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (PWV) was measured as an index of aortic stiffness. Results: There was no significant difference between control subjects and CAD patients according to age and sex. Compared with control subjects, CAD patients had significantly impaired FMD (p<0.001) and increased PWV (p=0.009). CAD patients also had significantly higher levels of osteoprotegerin (p<0.001), osteopontin (p<0.001) and IL-6 (p=0.03), compared with control subjects. Moreover, IL-6 levels were correlated with osteoprotegerin (r=0.17, p=0.01) and osteopontin (r=0.30, p<0.001) levels. FMD was correlated with osteoprotegerin levels independent of possible confounders [b coefficient= - 0.79, 95% CI (-1.54, -0.05), p=0.04]. Conclusion: CAD patients have increased osteoprotegerin, osteopontin and IL-6 levels. Moreover, there is a consistent association between osteoprotegerin and osteopontin serum levels, vascular function and inflammation in CAD patients. These findings suggest another possible mechanism linking osteoprotegerin and osteopontin serum levels with CAD progression through arterial wall stiffening and inflammation.

Abstract Coronary Artery Disease (CAD) is a chronic inflammatory disease caused by atherosclerosis and arteries become clogged due to plaque formation, fat accumulation, and various sorts of immune cells. IL-32 is a new proinflammatory cytokine, which enhances inflammation through inducing different inflammatory cytokines. The purpose of current research was to assess IL-32 serum levels in coronary artery disease subjects and its relationship with serum levels of IL-6 and TNF-α. Forty-two subjects diagnosed with CAD and thirty-nine control subjects were enrolled in the research. Serum levels of IL-6, TNF-α, and IL-32 were measured using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). IL-32, TNF-α, and IL-6 serum levels were significantly higher by 2.7, 3.48, and 3.2-fold in the CAD subjects than in control subjects, respectively. Moreover, no significant difference was found in TNF-α, IL-6 and IL-32 serum levels with the clogged arteries number in the CAD group. TNF-α and IL-32 serum levels in the CAD subjects with cardiac arterial stenosis in one major vessel were significantly increased than CAD subjects with cardiac arterial stenosis in more than one major vessels. ROC curve analysis revealed that serum levels of IL-32, TNF-α, and IL-6 showed good abilities in predicting CAD. Also, Multiple logistic regression analyses suggested that TNF-α, IL-6, and IL-32, serum levels of LDL and ox-LDL were independently related to the presence of CAD, while HDL serum levels were not. TNF-α, IL-32, and IL-6 showed an increase in CAD group and serum levels of these cytokines showed good abilities in predicting CAD. Our data suggested the involvement of TNF-α and IL-32 in the early stage of CAD.

Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate the association between proinflammatory cytokines in special, the interleukin-6 (IL-6), and insulin-like growth factor (IGF-1) levels in coronary artery disease (CAD) and type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM).Methods: This study was conducted from November 2017 to March 2018 in Anbar, Iraq. We studied a total of 90 individuals (46 men and 44 women) aged between 20 and 87 years. The samples were divided into four groups: CAD patients (n=23), T2DM patients (n=23), coronary artery disease and type 2 diabetes together in the same patient (n=23), and control group (n=21). The concentrations of IL-6 and IGF-1 were determined using a commercially available enzyme-linked immune sorbent assay.Results: The results of the present study showed that there were elevated serum levels of IL-6 and low levels of IGF-1 in all the tested groups, compared with the control. The difference was statistically significant at p<0.05. The results showed a positively correlated between IL-6 and IGF-1 in the CAD group and T2DM group, while it was a negative correlation between serum levels of IL-6 and IGF-1 in the T2DM+CAD group.Conclusion: Elevated levels serum of IL-6 predicts the development of CAD and T2DM. These data support a possible role for inflammation in diabetogenesis and complication of the cardiovascular disease. There is an inverse relationship between the levels serum of IGF-1 and increased risk of CAD and development of T2DM.

Objective Complement C1q tumor necrosis factor-related proteins (CTRPs), belonging to the CTRP superfamily, are extensively involved in regulating metabolism and the immune-inflammatory response. The inflammatory process is linked to the pathogenesis of coronary artery disease (CAD). Here, we investigated the association of serum levels of CTRP1 with CAD. Methods Study participants were divided into two groups according to the results of coronary angiography: a control group (n = 63) and a CAD group (n = 76). The concentrations of serum CTRP1 and inflammatory cytokines were determined by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. Further analysis of CTRP1 levels in individuals with different severities of CAD was conducted. The CAD severity was assessed by Gensini score. Results Serum levels of CTRP1 were significantly higher in CAD patients than in controls (17.24 ± 1.07 versus 9.31 ± 0.56 ng/mL), and CTRP1 levels increased with increasing severity of CAD. CTRP1 levels were positively correlated with concentrations of tumor necrosis factor-α and interleukin-6. Multiple logistic regression analysis showed that CTRP1 was significantly associated with CAD. Conclusions Our data showed close associations of serum CTRP1 levels with the prevalence and severity of CAD, indicating that CTRP1 can be regarded as a novel and valuable biomarker for CAD.

Objective: By enrolling a prospective study of 82 patients that underwent non-urgent coronary angiography for coronary artery disease (CAD), it is aimed to investigate the correlation between adiponectin and waist-hip-ratio with severity of CAD.Materials and methods: The results of the angiography, divided the patients into two groups, patients admitted with a diagnosis of CAD and non-CAD. In the conducted hospital based research, two groups were involved: the study group with documented angiographically CAD and control group without angiographic evidence of CAD. Some of the baseline adiponectin levels in stored serum samples of all patients, anthropometric and biochemical risk factors were assessed in both groups.Result and discussion: As the result, we have seen the presence of CAD that was associated with current smoking, male gender, waist–hip ratio (WHR).While, no significant difference between median adiponectin levels at baseline were observed between cases and controls.Conclusion: There is a significant positive correlation between waist - hip ratio and presence of severity of coronary artery disease.Bangladesh Journal of Medical Science Vol.17(2) 2018 p.290-295

Coronary artery disease (CAD) is a clinical manifestation resulting from a narrowing of epicardial coronary arteries that supply blood and oxygen to the heart. Coronary artery disease is mostcommonlydue to atherosclerotic occlusion of the coronary arteries.Fibroblast growth factor 23 (FGF23) is a circulating peptide hormone secreted by bone cells,regulating phosphate and vitamin D metabolism. Several recent observational studies reported an independent association of circulating FGF23 with several cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk factors including left ventricular hypertrophy and vascular dysfunction,CVD progression and incident clinical CVD eventsand mortality.Apolipoprotein A1 (ApoA1) is the primary protein associated with high-density lipoprotein (HDL) particles,and plays a central role in reverse cholesterol transport. HDL cholesterol (HDL-C) and ApoA1 concentrations are inverlassely related to the risk for coronary artery disease. To find the role of fibroblast growth factor-23 in coronary artery disease and its associationwith Apolipoprotein-A1.This ccross –sectionalstudyincluded 42 elective patients attending the cardiology unit and the results of those patients were compared with 40 healthy control group. Blood samples were obtained for measurements of (FGF-23,troponin I,Apo-A1,total creatine kinase activity,urea,creatinine and lipid profile).The obtained results showed that there was a significant difference in serum FGF-23 in coronary artery disease (367.52 ± 128.52 pg/ml) as compared with the control (165.41 ± 53.65 pg/ml) (p< 0.05). There was a significant differences in Apo-A1 in coronary artery disease (2.03±0.90 mg/ml) as compared with the control (1.49 ± 0.25 mg/ml) (P = 0.014).There was a significant difference in age between CAD (58.66±8.85) and control group (51.125 ± 11.71) (P<0.005).There was a significant difference in TG where control (99.50 ± 21.59) differ from CAD (142.05 ± 66.24) (P = 0.006).According to the results that were shown in the tables, we can be conclude that higher levels of FGF23 and Apo-A1 may be associated with complications and mortality of CAD beside its associating with atherosclerosis in the Iraqi patients.

SUMMARY OBJECTIVE Analyzing the association between ABI and the main risk factors for coronary artery disease in coronary patients. METHODS Were selected 156 adult patients from a hospital in Maceió, Alagoas. Were evaluated with risk factors age, obesity, hypertension, diabetes mellitus, smoking, and dyslipidemia. PAOD screening was performed by the ankle-brachial index (ABI). The Mann-Whitney, chi-square, and Fisher’s exact tests were used. Confidence Interval of 95% and a significance of 5%. RESULTS 67.3% (n=105) males, 52.6% (n=82) elderly, 23.1% (n = 34) obese, 72.4% 6% (n=113) hypertensive, 34.6% (n=54) diabetics, 53.2% (n=83) smokers, 34.6% (n=54) dyslipidemic and 70.5% (n=110) with a family history of CAD. 16.7% (n=26) of the individuals presented PAOD. Three factors were associated with PAOD: age group ≥ 60 years (OR:3.656; p=0.005), diabetes mellitus (OR:2.625; p=0.024) and hypertension (OR:5.528; p=0.008). No significant difference was observed in the variables smoking, dyslipidemia, family history of CAD, and obesity. CONCLUSION The independent risk factors for PAOD were age, diabetes mellitus, and systemic arterial hypertension.
