The present article evolved from a series of short Romanian translations based on the German version of Adam Fletcher’s book entitled “How to be German in 50 new steps/ Wie man Deutscher wird. In 50 neuen Schritten” (2016). Spanning more than three months, the outcomes of the translating process were rendered concrete with the collective contribution of five Erasmus students[1] at Leipzig University, Germany, all of whom (their teacher included) are native speakers of the Romanian language. Frequently employing a combination of free and formal translation-styles, the team of translators-to-be strove to retain all the meanings, be they propositional or expressive, presupposed or evoked, or those generated by idioms, fixed expressions and non-equivalence in the original text. They provided alternative translations, mostly differing on the levels of lexis, grammar and register, but eventually negotiated the best one, which naturally became the final translated text, as much as possible freed from any traces of “translationese” and suitable for any authentic contemporary sample of Romanian language.   [1] I am grateful to Patricia Gheorghe and Ramona Băcănaru (Technical University of Civil Engineering of Bucharest), Andreea Tufeanu (University of Bucharest), Denisa Urs and Paula Heredea (University of Oradea), for their major role throughout the whole process of translation and for all their pertinent observations on the source and target texts.

Abstract: Recently, Duriez, Fontaine and Hutsebaut (2000) and Fontaine, Duriez, Luyten and Hutsebaut (2003) constructed the Post-Critical Belief Scale in order to measure the two religiosity dimensions along which Wulff (1991 , 1997 ) summarized the various possible approaches to religion: Exclusion vs. Inclusion of Transcendence and Literal vs. Symbolic. In the present article, the German version of this scale is presented. Results obtained in a heterogeneous German sample (N = 216) suggest that the internal structure of the German version fits the internal structure of the original Dutch version. Moreover, the observed relation between the Literal vs. Symbolic dimension and racism, which was in line with previous studies ( Duriez, in press ), supports the external validity of the German version.

The present article analyzes the use of connectors as one of the linguistic devices that provide grammatical cohesion to Spanish legal texts. In addition to the theoretical review, the paper offers a didactic proposal to develop an ability to work with the en virtud de connector, which has been designed to meet the needs of teaching legal Spanish to non-native speakers.

For the whole process of civil engineering construction, slope support technology is a very key technical point of civil construction. Engineering and technical personnel shall be able to fully ensure the safety and firmness of the foundation structure of the engineering slope by setting up retaining walls or using other slope support treatment techniques, and extend the safe service life of civil engineering. Under this premise, engineering and technical personnel must integrate the technical measures of slope support into the construction process of civil engineering.

The article deals with features and problems of translating texts of Englishlanguage songs and ways of translating them into Ukrainian by the blogger UkrTrashDub. With the advent of American culture and its influence on Ukrainian youth, research is becoming increasingly relevant in our time. In the course of a comparative analysis of the original, it was revealed that linguistic realities and reproduction of the form of the original text are the main difficulties in the perception and translation of songs. Despite a deep understanding of the ideological and thematic orientation of the original text, the translator must be able to find adequate verbal means and the specifics of the author’s language. In addition, when translating is a poetic text, it is very important to preserve its rhythmic organization and rhyme system, which, however, is not always possible. Speaking about the ways of translating lyrics, the authors dwell on the rhymed method of translation, focusing on achieving the maximum possible adequacy of the translation. Particular attention is paid to the social factor that motivates the existence of this type of translation. As part of the study, the main features, problems and means of translating English-language songs into Ukrainian were identified. The main features include: unstable poetic meter; the huge influence of the culture of native speakers of the original text; a large number of the realities of the culture of the native speakers of the original language depicted in the lyrics. The problems of translating lyrics are: preservation of the original form; adaptation and/or transmission of foreign language realities and the difference in languages, which forms the approach to writing poetry. It can be concluded that the main features of the translation of English songs are related to the preservation of the original form.

The application of BIM Technology in civil engineering construction is one of the important trends of the innovation and development of the current construction market and the realization of efficient construction. Through the application of BIM Technology in civil engineering, the whole process of engineering construction can be monitored and managed, the whole civil engineering construction level can be improved, and the quality of engineering construction can be met. In this paper, through the application of BIM Technology in the construction management of construction engineering, the information technology means, visual characteristics and dynamic mode strengthening project management model based on itself are studied. In this paper, through the three-dimensional technical means to build the model, strengthen the systematic supervision of the construction project. The experimental results show that the model can better guarantee the construction completion on schedule, improve the construction quality and reduce the construction cost.

The present article demonstrates certain syntactic expressions of the informal spoken English discourse among native speakers belonging to different age groups. The data of our analysis demonstrate that the frequency of the application of linguistic variables differs among different age categories of native speakers. This is particularly expressed in the frequency of the use of English conjunctions and and but in terms of the frequent use of attributive clauses and adverbial clauses with because.

Spontaneous spoken language is known to be rich in fragmented and nonintegrated chunks of speech. The latter are the result of syntactic “accidents”, which are indispensible elements of spontaneous talk. Caused by a variety of pragmatic factors, syntactic accidents differ in their formal, lexical, and distributional features. With these features in view, we single out three main varieties of syntactic accidents: 1. maxi-accidents, 2. mini-accidents and 3. micro-accidents, which collectively constitute one whole paradigm. Within the framework of the present article, the main focus of the analysis is on maxi-accidents in spontaneous talk of middle-class native speakers of English. Based on the empirical data, the analysis outlines the key functional properties of maxi-accidents, such as their frequency of occurrence, positional characteristics and pragmatic reasons that lie behind maxi-accidents.
