Abstract A useful and generally accepted method of increasing the available selection of plastics is the manufacture, by blending existing polymers, of mixed materials with new properties. Properties of the blend can be expected to correspond to the additive properties of the plastics making up the mixture, in accordance with their proportions. This is very often the sole purpose of the process, e.g., when plasticizing a brittle polymer with a more plastic one. It can however also be expected that some properties of the blend may be better than what would be given by pure additivity, as is observed with some mixed solvents or alloys. Polymers are mixed industrially on processing machinery similar to that used for processing plastics, or mixing in additives, i.e., on mills, in internal mixers, mixing extruders, Ko-Kneaders, etc. Adequate mixing is often only possible at the processing temperature of the material which requires the highest temperature. Experience has shown that in the usual processing conditions only certain polymers are miscible. Nonmiscible polymers separate in the course of or at the end of the mixing process. Such material disintegrates into thin layers or fibers on cooling. The practical compatibility of polymers is not easy to explain theoretically. We shall see that in some systems the mixtures are mutual solutions of their components, while in others the possibility of forming a true mixture must be excluded, yet blends with valuable properties are easily obtained in practice.

Metal products are subjected to atmospheric corrosion during transportation and storing. An important way to prevent this negative phenomenon is application of special packing materials, in particular materials, containing volatile inhibitors of corrosion, which protect metal against various corrosion agents. To protect metal effectively it is necessary to provide a definite level of operating characteristics of packing materials. The purpose of the work was the study of operating properties of inhibited crepe, inhibited and laminated polyethylene film, inhibited crepe and reinforced by polypropylene web papers, manufactured by OJSC “PP TechnoKhim”, Magnitogorsk, used for packing of metals. Structural and dimensional, sorption, deformation and strength characteristics, of the studied anticorrosion papers are presented, the characteristics being calculated based on the results of measurements. To determine their physical-mechanical and anticorrosion properties, standard methods and methodologies were used. To evaluate impact of moisture and transportation conditions, indices of water adsorption and wear of the studied papers were determined. Inhibitor content in these materials was determined by thermogravimetric analysis method. Their protective ability was studied on samples of low carbon steel strip. For accelerated corrosion tests the strip samples were degreased by alcohol, dried in air and packed in the studied anticorrosion papers, after that they were exposed under increased temperatures and moisture conditions. It was determined, that among the materials under the study, the inhibited crepe paper, reinforced by polypropylene web, hhas the best complex of physical-mechanical and anticorrosion properties. It provides a higher level of prevention corrosion of metal l and surpasses other materials in a number of deformation and strength characteristics. Recommendations were proposed to improve qquality of produced anticorrosion papers.

The article discusses one of the modern areas of powder metallurgy – the technology of manufacturing shaped parts by the powder injection molding (PIM). For the powder-polymer mixture (feedstock) with a wax-polypropylene binder of the solvent-thermal type of removal by isobaric volume dilatometry, the dependence of PVT state parameters was studied. For each component of the polymer binder, the dependence of pressure on the temperature of phase transition was obtained. As a result of mathematical processing and analysis of PVT data for the feedstock of the studied type, a technological window of parameters has been determined that allows injection molding of «green parts» with minimal volume shrinkage. The results of a comparative analysis of the compaction of feedstock with a polymer binder catalytic and solution-thermal type of removal are presented.
