scholarly journals An Examination of Security and Privacy Challenges in Internet of Things

The Internet of Things (IoT) has been growing to market from the past several years with great potential. Many several devices have been now available in the market based on IoT, which enables it to connect with your smart phones or with any other kind of smart resources, and then that device is ready to perform smart work via the Internet. With the help of IoT, we are now able to make our devices connect with the internet and then can be operated from anywhere from the geo location as well as it can store and retrieve a large amount of data for better communication between the end-user and the device. IoT also has a wide range of applications that are being used on many platforms. However, this great technology also has to face many problems and among all the problems the main issue arises with its security aspects. The major concern on using IoT security is the hacker wants to enter into the large network system using a particular device as all the devices are connected over the network. Not only this, many other security threats and malware are also a major concern in IoT. So taking these security aspects as a major concern this research paper reviews several security issues and challenges that occur in IoT. As there in every field when it comes to cyber security for any kind of data, we need to follow CIA Security Triangle i.e., Confidentiality, Integrity, and Availability of data. CIA security triangle is the most important concept in terms of security and also must be taken into consideration in the IoT domain. Therefore, considering all these facts and reviewing some of the latest documents as well as researches in the field of IoT, this paper has been based on all the facts related to IoT security issues and its desirable solution which is needed to be done and should follow the security triangle to an extent.

In recent years the Internet of Things (IoT) has rapidly become a revolutionary technological invention causing significant changes to the way both corporate computing systems, and even household gadgets and appliances, are designed and manufactured. The aim of this chapter is to highlight the security and privacy issues that may affect the evolution of IoT technology. The privacy issues are discussed from customer perspectives: first, the IoT privacy concern where the privacy debates on IoT and the IoT privacy that reflected from users' perspective based on the examination of previous researches results. In addition, the different architectures for IoT are discussed. Finally, the chapter discusses the IoT security concern by collecting, analyzing and presenting the major IoT security concerns in the literature as well as providing some potential solutions to these concerns.

The future of Internet of Things (IoT) is already upon us. The Internet of Things (IoT) is the ability to provide everyday devices with a way of identification and another way for communication with each other. The spectrum of IoT application domains is very large including smart homes, smart cities, wearables, e-health, etc. Consequently, tens and even hundreds of billions of devices will be connected. Such devices will have smart capabilities to collect, analyze and even make decisions without any human interaction. Security is a supreme requirement in such circumstances, and in particular authentication is of high interest given the damage that could happen from a malicious unauthenticated device in an IoT system. While enjoying the convenience and efficiency that IoT brings to us, new threats from IoT also have emerged. There are increasing research works to ease these threats, but many problems remain open. To better understand the essential reasons of new threats and the challenges in current research, this survey first proposes the concept of “IoT features”. Then, the security and privacy effects of eight IoT new features were discussed including the threats they cause, existing solutions and challenges yet to be solved.

Abstract. Smart environments provide many benefits to the users including comfort, convenience, energy efficiency, safety, automation, and service quality. The Internet of Things (IoT) has developed to become one of the widely used technologies in smart environments. Many security attacks and threats are generated by security flaws in IoT-based systems and devices, which may affect smart environments applications. As a result, security is one of the most important issues in any smart area or environment based on the IoT model. This paper presents an overview of smart environments based on IoT technology and highlights the main security issues and countermeasures in the four layers of smart environment IoT architecture. It also reviews some of the current solutions that ensure the security of information in smart environments applications.

The Internet of Things (IoT) aims at connecting a large number of communication and information systems. With the further development of pervasive computing, these systems can be integrated into everyday objects, such as household devices and tools. When complex systems are interconnected, it is complicated to keep track of how secure a system or connection is and to distinguish which devices are connected within the IoT and which devices are not. As to the security, the IoT will be faced with more severe challenges. There are the following reasons: 1) the IoT extends the ‘internet' through the traditional internet, mobile network and sensor network and so on, 2) every ‘thing' will be connected to this ‘internet' and 3) these ‘things' will communicate with each other. Therefore, the new security and privacy problems will arise out of which authentication and access control are the most vital security issues that need to be taken care of. Therefore, we should pay more attention to the issues for confidentiality, authenticity and integrity of data in the IoT.

The Internet of Things or IoT is billions of physical devices connected to the Internet. Its main premise is simply an extended type of connection, which can then be used as a basis for all kinds of functions. IoT describes a network of physical objects - "things" that are built into sensors, software and other technologies to connect and communicate with other devices and systems over the Internet. Problems of system protection, including the use of IoT devices are studied by many scientists and specialists in this field, but in today's world, not every manufacturer is ready to declare vulnerabilities and general insecurity of their products (devices). Throughout the IoT environment, from manufacturers to users, there are still many IoT security issues, such as manufacturing standards, update management, physical hardening, user knowledge and awareness. This article examines the vulnerabilities of the Internet of Things. The analysis of information transfer technologies of IoT devices (in particular ZigBee, Signfox and Bluetooth) is carried out. The most common threats that a user may encounter have been identified and analyzed. It is also established that usually not only the manufacturer poses a threat to the security of IoT devices. There are also a number of tips for users who want to reduce the risk of data leakage associated with vulnerabilities in the Internet of Things. Unfortunately, it is not uncommon for such devices to be incorrectly set up, used and stored. Extremely common is the user's refusal to update the software, which in turn leaves open those vulnerabilities that the manufacturer is trying to fix. The main purpose of the article is to determine the causes of security threats to the Internet of Things, by analyzing data transmission technologies, analysis of the threats themselves, identifying the most critical of them and ways to reduce the risk of data theft
