The shift from face-to face to distance learning brought about by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic is a major adjustment to all school administrators, teachers, students and parents. The study aimed to determine the challenges encountered and needed support of parents and learners in an elementary school of the Schools Division of Meycauayan City as basis for crafting a contextualized support program. It employed a mixed method design using survey-questionnaire and interview guide as data gathering tools to 123 parents and 10 learners respectively. Frequency and percentage were used to describe the demographic profile, frequency counts and ranking were used on the challenges encountered and support/technical assistance needed by parents while thematic analysis was used to describe the experiences of the learners. The study found out that difficulty in independent learning, difficulty in concentrating on studies and parent’s limited knowledge on the content of child’s lessons are the top struggles of parents in the modular distance learning while almost all learner-respondents describe their experiences of distance learning as difficult because of difficulty in learning by themselves, lack of reference materials for more examples, limited guidance from parents and teachers, challenges in load to research and difficulty in understanding English. Moreover, both respondents are unanimous in declaring that provision of additional reference materials will greatly help lessen the struggles they encountered. Therefore, it is recommended that the support program crafted should be implemented and monitored to fully reinforce the continuity of learning amidst the challenges encountered in the first quarter.

Experiences of past projects show that interventions would more likely succeed if these are designed considering the needs and resources of the target beneficiaries. To achieve this end, participatory rural appraisals (PRAs) were conducted in three barangays of Inopacan, Leyte with marginal upland areas. The PRAs were participated by 64 community representing almost all sectors. Tools used residents in data gathering were seasonal calendar, historical timeline, Venn diagram, household labor allocation, household decision-making, livelihood analysis, and problem tree analysis. Results showed that residents’ main livelihood are farming and livestock raising. Major crops planted are coconut, corn, rootcrops, and banana; while animals raised include goats, swine, native chickens and carabaos. Due to limited water supply in the barangays, farmers have to depend on rainfed farming system. To augment family income, some women engage in backyard gardening, and in food processing and selling. Results also revealed that they have experienced problems like infertile soils, and Brontispa longissimi infestation which reduced productivity of coconut. The FGD participants expressed that many people in their locality need other livelihood options to supplement their unstable income from coconut. The livelihood activities that can be enhanced through trainings and technical assistance include farming, animal raising and food processing. Results have implication in planning for more sustainable resource-based management.

Covid-19 is an unprecedented crisis that has affected almost all industry players including education. It has transformed our way of life and introduced a new normal to how things are done. As an effort to contain the outbreak of pandemic Covid-19, universities have shifted to online learning. In line with this, Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) has decided to execute open and distance learning (ODL) for the current semester until 31 December 2020. ODL introduces a different learning environment as compared to the traditional classroom that requires students to be self-reliant in learning new things. Hence, the purpose of the study is to explore students’ experiences in the process of knowledge transfer through ODL specifically for accounting subjects. A questionnaire was distributed to students who were taking the subject of Introduction to Financial Accounting and Introduction to Cost Accounting in UiTM Pahang Kampus Raub and a total of 206 responses were received. The study found over half of the students enjoy learning through ODL but only one-third were looking forward to having ODL for the next semester. Poor internet connection is the main reason found in the study that makes ODL not preferred by the students. At the same time, few features were highlighted by the students about ODL such as the advantage of pre-recorded video to catch up the new material and flexibility for them to learn at their own pace.

The purpose of this study is to develop a reliable and valid measurement tool to explore views about organisational justice in schools and to examine teachers' and school administrators' views about organisational justice in primary schools. The sample of the study consisted of a total of 455 participants, 176 school administrators and 279 teachers from the primary schools in the Centre of Van. The Organisational Justice Scale, developed by the authors, was employed as data gathering tool. Principal Component Factor Analysis was used to determine the content and construct validities of the scale and Confirmatory Factor Analysis was employed to evaluate the obtained results. As a result of the study, the developed Organisational Justice Scale (OJS) was found to be a valid and reliable measurement tool for school applications.


The IoT is a new concept that provides a world where smart, connected, embedded systems operate, giving rise to the amount of data from different sources that are considered to have highly useful and valuable information. Data mining would play a critical role in creating smarter IoT. Traditional care of an elderly person is a difficult and complex task. The need to have a caregiver with the elderly person almost all the time drains the human and financial resources of the health care system. The emergence of Artificial intelligence has allowed the conception of technical assistance where it helps and reduces the time spent by the caregiver with the elderly person. This work aims to focus on analyzing techniques that are used for prediction purposes of falls in the elderly. We examine the applicability of three classification algorithms for IoT data. These algorithms are analyzed and a comparative study is undertaken to find the classifier that performs the best analysis on the dataset using a set of predefined performance metrics to compare the results of each classifier.

Vulnerability is such stage when such people and group can be easily harmed physically or emotionally. They are always in risk in natural or man-made disaster so such people and groups should be cared and supported by all concerns. Great earthquake of August 2015, many old age people, poor, single women, child-headed family and disable family become vulnerable in earthquake affected districts of Nepal. So, Nepal Government had deployed the Socio-Technical Assistance (STA) team to support the vulnerable households. The main objective of this study was to identify the role of STA in private housing reconstruction of vulnerable household. The study was conducted in Okhaldhunga district among the 35 vulnerable households. The study was based on the mixed method so both quantitative and qualitative method was used to collect the data. The findings show that majority of ethnic group who were more than 70 years old were in urgent need of support who were fully supported by STA. almost all beneficiaries were happy with the support and behaviour of STA. economically, 44.1% household had spent more than 3 Lakh to build the house so they had to manage the additional amount. They had taken loan from relative and neighbor so Nepal Government should provide livelihood support to such household to improve their socio-economic status.

Research is seen as something grounded in theory that can lead to improved practice. Without a theoretical basis it is unlikely to go beyond data gathering. The theoretical insights leading to good research are more likely to come from educational and social theories generally than from an attempt to develop a theory of open and distance learning. An examination of existing research shows that it is often atheoretical and predominantly descriptive. Research on the context of open and distance learning, considering its purposes, outcomes, and relevance to major educational problems, has been relatively neglected as contrasted with research on its application. Significant research issues today include: problems posed by globalisation, including issues of governance and consumer protection; ways of maximising public benefit from new communication technologies; the development of strategies for AIDS education; and the continuing need for educational expansion.

This study dealt with the validation of rights-based indicators for MillenniumDevelopment Goals localization in the municipalities of Narvacan, Sinait, Sta.Catalina, and Bantay in Ilocos Sur. It is in response to the call of institutionalizingrights-based approach for MDG development planning and governance. Itlooked into the indicators’ availability, relevance, measurability, and feasibility andthe extent of availability of data in the LGUs. The respondents were the MunicipalSocial Welfare and Development officers, rural health officers, Municipal Planningand Development coordinators and the Municipal Local Government officers. Indeveloping the data gathering instrument, educators, researchers, statisticians,human rights advocates, stakeholders and the Commission on Human Rightsof Region I were involved. Results show that only a few of the indicators werehighly available; almost all were relevant and had good level of measurability.Only MDG 3 was highly feasible. Most had no sufficient data available exceptfor MDG 2- Achieve Universal Primary Education, MDG 3- Promote GenderEquality, and MDG 4- Reduce Child Mortality. With the geologic location and physical characteristics of the Philippines,it is being considered as one of the most disaster-prone countries in the world.Disasters occurring in the country can be natural or human-induced (NDRRMC,2011).   Certainly, when there is a disaster, school children are the mostvulnerable. The study examined the disaster management trainings attended bythe teachers and their capability level in managing natural and human-induceddisasters.  It also explored the pupils’ knowledge, attitudes and behavior aboutdisaster management. Employing descriptive research design, 200 teachers and300 pupils in the public central schools in Iligan City served as respondents.Survey questionnaires were used in data gathering and were treated using frequency counts, means, percentages and correlation procedure. Results revealthat almost all of the teachers did not have trainings on disaster managementand yet, they are capable in managing the identified disasters. Meanwhile, thepupils posted a good remark on their knowledge, attitudes and behavior aboutdisaster management. The two powerful typhoons Sendong (Tropical StormWashi) and Pablo (Tropical Storm Bopha) left a learned lesson to the people inIligan City not to be complacent in any disasters.
