For irreducible characters $\{ \chi_q^\lambda \,|\, \lambda \vdash n \}$, induced sign characters $\{ \epsilon_q^\lambda \,|\, \lambda \vdash n \}$, and induced trivial characters $\{ \eta_q^\lambda \,|\, \lambda \vdash n \}$ of the Hecke algebra $H_n(q)$, and Kazhdan-Lusztig basis elements $C'_w(q)$ with $w$ avoiding the patterns 3412 and 4231, we combinatorially interpret the polynomials $\smash{\chi_q^\lambda(q^{\ell(w)/2} C'_w(q))}$, $\smash{\epsilon_q^\lambda(q^{\ell(w)/2} C'_w(q))}$, and $\smash{\eta_q^\lambda(q^{\ell(w)/2} C'_w(q))}$. This gives a new algebraic interpretation of chromatic quasisymmetric functions of Shareshian and Wachs, and a new combinatorial interpretation of special cases of results of Haiman. We prove similar results for other $H_n(q)$-traces, and confirm a formula conjectured by Haiman.

International audience For irreducible characters $\{ \chi_q^{\lambda} | \lambda \vdash n\}$ and induced sign characters $\{\epsilon_q^{\lambda} | \lambda \vdash n\}$ of the Hecke algebra $H_n(q)$, and Kazhdan-Lusztig basis elements $C'_w(q)$ with $w$ avoiding the pattern 312, we combinatorially interpret the polynomials $\chi_q^{\lambda}(q^{\frac{\ell(w)}{2}} C'_w(q))$ and $\epsilon_q^{\lambda}(q^{\frac{\ell(w)}{2}} C'_w(q))$. This gives a new algebraic interpretation of $q$-chromatic symmetric functions of Shareshian and Wachs. We conjecture similar interpretations and generating functions corresponding to other $H_n(q)$-traces.

We give a combinatorial interpretation of a Pieri formula for double Grothendieck polynomials in terms of an interval of the Bruhat order. Another description had been given by Lenart and Postnikov in terms of chain enumerations. We use Lascoux's interpretation of a product of Grothendieck polynomials as a product of two kinds of generators of the 0-Hecke algebra, or sorting operators. In this way, we obtain a direct proof of the result of Lenart and Postnikov and then prove that the set of permutations occurring in the result is actually an interval of the Bruhat order.

The numerical calculation of character values as well as Kronecker coefficients can efficently be carried out by means of character polynomials. Yet these polynomials do not seem to have been given a proper role in present day literature or software. To show their remarkable simplicity we give here an "umbral" version and a recursive combinatorial construction. We also show that these polynomials have a natural counterpart in the standard Hecke algebra ${\cal H}_n(q\, )$. Their relation to Kronecker products is brought to the fore, as well as special cases and applications. This paper may also be used as a tutorial for working with character polynomials in the computation of Kronecker coefficients.

AbstractIwahori-Hecke algebras for the infinite series of complex reflection groups G(r, p, n) were constructed recently in the work of Ariki and Koike [AK], Broué andMalle [BM], and Ariki [Ari]. In this paper we give Murnaghan-Nakayama type formulas for computing the irreducible characters of these algebras. Our method is a generalization of that in our earlier paper [HR] in whichwe derivedMurnaghan-Nakayama rules for the characters of the Iwahori-Hecke algebras of the classical Weyl groups. In both papers we have been motivated by C. Greene [Gre], who gave a new derivation of the Murnaghan-Nakayama formula for irreducible symmetric group characters by summing diagonal matrix entries in Young's seminormal representations. We use the analogous representations of the Iwahori-Hecke algebra of G(r, p, n) given by Ariki and Koike [AK] and Ariki [Ari].

International audience We examine the $q=1$ and $t=0$ special cases of the parking functions conjecture. The parking functions conjecture states that the Hilbert series for the space of diagonal harmonics is equal to the bivariate generating function of $area$ and $dinv$ over the set of parking functions. Haglund recently proved that the Hilbert series for the space of diagonal harmonics is equal to a bivariate generating function over the set of Tesler matrices–upper-triangular matrices with every hook sum equal to one. We give a combinatorial interpretation of the Haglund generating function at $q=1$ and prove the corresponding case of the parking functions conjecture (first proven by Garsia and Haiman). We also discuss a possible proof of the $t = 0$ case consistent with this combinatorial interpretation. We conclude by briefly discussing possible refinements of the parking functions conjecture arising from this research and point of view. $\textbf{Note added in proof}$: We have since found such a proof of the $t = 0$ case and conjectured more detailed refinements. This research will most likely be presented in full in a forthcoming article.

Abstract Let $K/F$ be an unramified quadratic extension of a non-Archimedean local field. In a previous work [1], we proved a formula for the intersection number on Lubin–Tate spaces. The main result of this article is an algorithm for computation of this formula in certain special cases. As an application, we prove the linear Arithmetic Fundamental Lemma for $ \operatorname {{\mathrm {GL}}}_4$ with the unit element in the spherical Hecke Algebra.

We evaluate combinatorially certain connection coefficients of the symmetric group that count the number of factorizations of a long cycle as a product of three permutations. Such factorizations admit an important topological interpretation in terms of unicellular constellations on orientable surfaces. Algebraic computation of these coefficients was first done by Jackson using irreducible characters of the symmetric group. However, bijective computations of these coefficients are so far limited to very special cases. Thanks to a new bijection that refines the work of Schaeffer and Vassilieva, we give an explicit closed form evaluation of the generating series for these coefficients. The main ingredient in the bijection is a modified oriented tricolored tree tractable to enumerate. Finally, reducing this bijection to factorizations of a long cycle into two permutations, we get the analogue formula for the corresponding generating series.

International audience The Selberg integral is an important integral first evaluated by Selberg in 1944. Stanley found a combinatorial interpretation of the Selberg integral in terms of permutations. In this paper, new combinatorial objects "Young books'' are introduced and shown to have a connection with the Selberg integral. This connection gives an enumeration formula for Young books. It is shown that special cases of Young books become standard Young tableaux of various shapes: shifted staircases, squares, certain skew shapes, and certain truncated shapes. As a consequence, enumeration formulas for standard Young tableaux of these shapes are obtained.

We present two general theorems having interesting special cases. From one of them we give a new proof for theorems of Gordon using a bijection and from another we have a new combinatorial interpretation associated with a theorem of Göllnitz.
