The article is devoted to the responses of the English press to the publication of the first translation of A. S. Griboyedov’s comedy “Woe from Wit” into English, made by N. D. Benardaki in 1857 (London). Reviews that appeared in the Scottish magazine “McPhail’s Edinburgh Ecclesiastical Journal and Literary Review” and in the London newspaper “The Literary Gazette, and Journal of Archeology, Science, and Art”, and the names of their authors have remained unknown in Russia so far. In both issues, British readers are introduced to the content of the Russian play and with its characters, both publications tell about the life and work of its author. At the same time, each publication has features that reflect not only the personal preferences of its author, but also some general ideas about Russia in the middle of the XIX century that existed in Great Britain. The first article, relying on the text of the comedy, made an attempt to draw a general picture of the life structure and moral climate of modern Russia as a “not quite civilized” country, from the point of view of the British. The author of another one tendentiously covers the life of Griboyedov, revealing dislike for him as a diplomat whose activities in Persia were successfully directed against British influence in this country.

As a research area, interior design took shape in the 20s of the last century, despite the fact that the practice of decorating living spaces dates back many hundreds of years. However, the "self-sufficiency" of design and its connection with architecture to this day is the subject of scientific discussions of urban specialists, historians, art historians, and anthropologists. The article discusses the leading artistic styles and trends that prevailed in architecture and design from the point of view of their mutual influence on each other. Time frame of the research: from the middle of XIX century to the first half of XX century. As a result of the research of foreign experience in the formation of interior design, the main stages of the movement development and its relationship with architecture in two formations were identified: activities directly dependent on architectural decisions, activities that determine the entire design process to a large extent: from the functional zoning of the premises to the features of the placement of utilities in the building. Entering the information era in art as a whole is characterized by the rejection of slogans that clearly delineate stylistic boundaries and determine the role of a designer in creating the living space. The determining factor influencing the integrity of the building’s appearance in a modern view is the harmony of the facade and the internal content, which was made possible thanks to the equal interaction of the architect and designer, starting from the first half of the 20th century.

The main goal of this essay is to present Helena P. Blavatsky, widely known as a great occultist of the XIX century, as a fiction writer, that used the rethorical powers of the fantastic to develop some stories to attract a wider audience. Her traveling chronicles around India are very interesting because of her skillful narrative and her Russian point of view, that differs from writers from England or India.

High-fidelity 3D printing of nanoscale objects is an increasing relevant but challenging task. Among the few fabrication techniques, focused electron beam induced deposition (FEBID) has demonstrated its high potential due to its direct-write character, nanoscale capabilities in 3D space and a very high design flexibility. A limitation, however, is the low fabrication speed, which often restricts 3D-FEBID for the fabrication of single objects. In this study, we approach that challenge by reducing the substrate temperatures with a homemade Peltier stage and investigate the effects on Pt based 3D deposits in a temperature range of 5–30 °C. The findings reveal a volume growth rate boost up to a factor of 5.6, while the shape fidelity in 3D space is maintained. From a materials point of view, the internal nanogranular composition is practically unaffected down to 10 °C, followed by a slight grain size increase for even lower temperatures. The study is complemented by a comprehensive discussion about the growth mechanism for a more general picture. The combined findings demonstrate that FEBID on low substrate temperatures is not only much faster, but practically free of drawbacks during high fidelity 3D nanofabrication.

From the fundamental studies of Louis Pasteur in the XIX century to the current genomic analysis, the essential role of microorganisms in winemaking industry is well recognised. In the last decades, selected Saccharomyces cerevisiae strains with excellent fermentative behaviour have been widely commercialised in form of active dry yeasts. Currently, the production of organic and “natural” wines represents a new economically relevant trend in the wine sector. Based on this market demand, the use of industrial yeast starter could be perceived as non-organic practice and then, rejected. However, in order to preserve wines sensory quality, healthiness, and to avoid organoleptic defects given by undesirable microorganisms, the “yeast factor” (S. cerevisiae or non-Saccharomyces) cannot be ignored. The purpose of this chapter is to describe the methods of selection of wine yeasts focusing the attention on indigenous S. cerevisiae strains. In fact, the use of ecotypic yeasts may represent a good compromise between the needs of microbiologically controlled fermentation and a modern vision of wine as natural expression of its “terroir”, also from the microbiological point of view.

Abstracttitle SUMMARY /title Galileo Ferraris (1847-1897), the most eminent Italian electrician in the last quarter of the XIX Century, is wrongly considered a pure technician who invented a new kind of electric induction motor. Instead, in introducing the new device, he also contributed, as a valuable mathematical physicist, to the deepening of Maxwell's electromagnetic theory itself, and, if ever, he did not draw all consequences of his invention from a practical point of view. Here are well exemplified the main characteristics of the beginning of Italian politechnical culture at the end of the XIX Century, which was also characterized by G. Ferrari's deep engagement in innovative teaching of electrical science and technology.

NARINE GISHYAN - TRANSLATION OF HUMOR IN SUBTITLING. A CASE STUDY OF THE ARMENIAN FILM “LOST AND FOUND IN ARMENIA” The article touches upon the translation peculiarities of humor into Armenian and the ways of their preservation in English through the use of translation strategies. A contemporary Armenian movie “Lost and Found in Armenia” is selected to give the general insight of the transfer of Armenian humor in subtitling. As a result of the study, we can state that from a semantic point of view, the translator was able to convey the meaning, often through partial or complete loss of humor. Deviations were mainly associated with interjections, which were omitted in the English translation. In all the extracted examples, interjections and sound effects, partially providing the humor of the episodes, were omitted. However, their restoration did not create an additional technical obstacle, since it corresponded to the spatial and temporal standards of subtitling.

In this paper, the author analyzes the organization of fl ood risk insurance, the risk which signifi cantly deteriorates due to climate change in Germany, the United Kingdom and Serbia. Th e author used selected studies and works, national legislation, insurance conditions and materials of specialized organizations. Climate change signifi cantly aff ects the frequency and severity of the harmful consequences of fl ood risks, which, due to their catastrophic consequences and territorial exposure, require more effi cient prevention measures and the design of their insurance. Floods are increasingly occurring as a result of heavy rainfall and high winds that simultaneously enhance their harmful potential. Th erefore, insurers cannot ignore the impact of climate change on the conditions for taking risks, determining the insurance premium, excesses and all other aspects related to these risks. From the point of view of risk assessment and selection techniques, the principle of fl ood insurability will certainly be applied in the future. Th erefore, refraining insurers from insuring those risks where the recurrence of fl oods is more frequent than a certain number of years (fi ve or ten years), based on the historical development of claims or classifi cation of zones into the danger class with increased frequency, will certainly pose a problem for policyholders. In Germany, fl ood risk cover is provided similarly to a number of Serbian insurers, ie. as an additional risk to basic property risks. However, the German insurance practice provides an opportunity to insure a number of other natural risks as a supplementary risk in the form of a natural risk package. It should be pointed out that there are also insurers in Serbia, whose policy terms regarding the cover scope more or less coincide with the insurance of named risks in Great Britain. Th ese are insurance conditions that represent an extension of the so-called traditional insurance of named fi re risks, which certainly represents a good step in the direction of modernizing the household insurance conditions in Serbia.

In this paper, Winnicott proposes to look at the place of the monarchy in Great Britain but not from the point of view of a specialist. The monarchy, he notes, is something we experience as part of our everyday lives. Winnicott notes the importance of the question ‘has God saved the Queen?’ and how behind it is the saying: ‘The King is dead, long live the King!’ The significance for Winnicott is that it implies that the monarchy survives the death of the reigning monarch.

In spite of the recent flowering of studies on the South Asian diaspora, we are nevertheless left with many gaps in our knowledge and many unanswered questions. The bulk of existing work is still focused on the migration of agricultural labour and the ‘Little Indias’ it spawned in various corners of the world. The recent migrations of educated professionals to the countries of the ‘First World’, particularly the USA, are also attracting increasing attention. The whole field of migration and diaspora studies remains, however, dominated by a host country perspective which tends to obliterate the general picture from the point of view of South Asian history.

SUMMARYThe AA. have studied the pedigree of a family with Marfan's Syndrome (M.S.) including 90 persons of four generations. 37 subjects were examined both from a general and from an ophcalmological point of view. Furthermore reliable informations have been obtained about 13 more subjects related with them. Out of the total of 50 persons about whom the A A. have gathered sufficient evidence, 22 turned out to be affected by « ectopia lentis », 20 by various skeletal malformations, all of them included in the general picture of M.S. In 5 more cases some signs of cardiac involvement have been found. The percentage of affected subjects in the whole family was 40%, whereas the hereditary transmission of this syndrome appeared to be typical of a presumably single autosomal dominant character. This is the first report in the literature of a consanguineous marriage between two subjects both affected by M.S. Out of 9 children who were born from this couple, 4 presented the M.S. (2 of them in a particularly severe form), 3 died during infancy, one was a stillborn and only one was a healthy individual. The number of cases of this syndrome described in the medical literature is in continuous increase. Furthermore the growing prominence it is assuming in general medicine, owing to the skeletal, cardiac and vascular anomalies, stimulates to a more thorough knowledge of its hereditary transmission, in the hope of achieving a useful social prophylaxis.
