The factors affecting the microwave bleaching of sunflower oil and the interaction between them were investigated and optimized by response surface methodology using a three-factor five-level central composite rotatable design. Microwave power, time and the amount of bleaching clay were selected as independent variables studied in the range of 70-120 W, 2-15 min, and 0.01-0.5%. The dependent variables that measure the bleaching efficiency and oil quality were evaluated as hue angle, chroma and totox value. Optimization was carried out by minimizing totox and chroma and maximizing hue angle. Hue angle, chroma and totox were found as 96.91, 37.66 and 23.31 under optimal conditions. Optimal microwave bleaching was successfully performed by using less bleaching clay (0.4%) and a shorter time (8 min) compared to the current industrial application without any adverse effect on oil quality. Hence, microwave bleaching is thought to be an alternative method for the bleaching of edible oils.

A building construction project cannot be completed successfully by only planning and scheduling. Project controlling that consists of project monitoring and updating, is the other critical stage. Construction materials cost and quality are becoming a severe problem in Ethiopia, especially in Ambo Town, where little consideration is given. The study tried to evaluate different factors affecting the materials cost and quality on building construction site, rank significant factors that are prevalently affecting the cost and quality of materials used for building projects from the point of view of the respondents, and established a model to optimize materials cost and materials quality using multilinear regression method to come up with the model best fit. Purposive sampling was used, and 180 questionnaires were administered on building construction firms to analyze Material cost Optimization and quality control Improvement- Case Study of Ambo Town. To achieve this, a questionnaire survey containing factors affecting Building construction material cost and quality, which were identified by literature and Interview, was analyzed by using the Relative Importance Index, Pearson's correlation, and Multilinear regression model. Variables are statistically significant at 95% confidence level is assessed that all of the independent variables are positively related to Building Construction material cost and quality. The RII results showed that Material Wastage minimization (RII = 0.908), Proper workmanship (RII= 0.859), Sufficient Training of workers/staff (RII = 0.876), Proper forecasting of materials price in the market (RII = 0.850), Using suitable, safe and secure storage (RII = 0.886), Quality checking for each delivery of the aggregates to the site (RII = 0.889), Cutting of materials ( glass, tiles, plywood) (RII = 0.870) and Design changes (RII = 0.770) were ranked as the most significant among factors affecting building construction materials. Also, Two Multiple linear regression models were established for both dependent variables (material cost and material quality). The analysis results showed all independent variables were significant and had a strong positive relationship with dependent variables. The values of R2 for the developed equations indicated 0.771 for material cost and 0.777 for material quality. Hence, the basic recommendations such as planning and monitoring construction activities and inspection and verification of materials were anticipated to be exercised by key role players of the construction industry.

The process of enzyme assisted extraction of essential oil from the leaves and branches of the Vietnamese aromatic plant Cinnamomum cassia was studied and optimized using a Box-Wilson central composite design consisting of 05 independent variables (pH, temperature T, time τ, concentration of the enzyme Laccase, and concentration of the enzyme Cellic Htec2) and two dependent variables (reducing sugar and yield of essential oil). Second-order polynomial equations were obtained for the responses, which fitted well with the experimental data. Optimal conditions for oil yield were found at pH = 5.2; T = 440C; τ = 5h30'; Laccase = 0.42 ml/g, and Cellic Htec2 = 1.15%. The experimental value (0.982% oil yield) was close to the predicted value (0.978%). The application of enzyme assisted extraction  in combination with optimization using response surface methodology substantially improved the oil yield as compared with traditional method.

In the present study we performed extraction of chia seed mucilage, formulation, and evaluation of buccal mucoadhesive tablet containing extracted mucialge and venlafaxine, an commonly used antidepressant. Tablets were prepared using a formulation mixture of calcium phosphate, talc and magnesium stearate. Tablets were prepared by experimental factorial design software, using central composite design; where the concentration of chia seeds mucilage and that of magnesium stearates were independent variables. Drug release, friability and mucoadhesive strength were studied as dependent variables. Tablets were characterized for post compression profile. The optimized formulation showed the maximum drug release as 99.4% in 6 h, friability of 0.53% and mucoadhesive strength of 20.3 g. These features appear to be adequate for developing a buccal mucoadhesive drug delivery system for venlafaxine.

Abstract Background The main objective of the present study was to develop and optimize an effervescent tablet of levetiracetam, an antiepileptic drug, using central composite design with response surface methodology (RSM).The present investigation helps to overcome the problem associated with levetiracetam tablets and liquid dosage forms with children and elderly people like bad taste and swallowing difficulties. It also facilitates as an alternative manufacturing process for advanced patented technology like 3D printing process employed in SPRITAM® tablet. Levetiracetam effervescent tablets were prepared by dry granulation (roll compaction) method using water-soluble excipients and optimized by central composite rotatable design (CCRD) using two variables (citric acid and effersoda) at two levels (high and low). Overall, fourteen formulation trials were generated through statistical software Minitab 17.3.0 placing 6 center points, 4 cube points, and 4 axial points. All formulations were subjected to compression using single punch machine. Results Quality attributes of compressed tablets were evaluated using various compendial and non-compendial tests. RSM was used to observe the responses like effervescent time, hardness, and friability of the prepared tablet batches for different levels of all the variables. Polynomial equations were developed, and model plots (contour plot and 3-dimensional model surface plots) were generated to study the impact of acid-base couple on the responses. Finally, the optimized formulation was selected on the basis of desired effervescent time, hardness, friability, percent drug release, and drug content. From the studied RSM design, it was observed that small changes in the independent variables (citric acid and effersoda) correlate with shifts in the dependent variables, i.e., the desired responses. The study reveals that all the independent variables (citric acid and effersoda) and dependent variables (effervescent time, hardness, and friability) have a good correlation as indicated by good linear regression coefficient of 0.9808, 0.9939, and 0.9892 for effervescent time, hardness, and friability respectively. Conclusion Levetiracetam effervescent tablets are satisfactorily prepared by dry granulation (roll compaction) approach. All desired critical quality attributes were found to be satisfactory. The applicability of RSM with desirability function in optimizing the levetiracetam formulation has made it possible to identify the impact of various independent variables and explore their effect on required responses.
