Recent research has been very attentive to the examination of learners’ behavioural patterns of using learning management systems (LMS), but these studies seldom address the diversity in the LMS usage behaviours of teachers. This study aimed to discover the behavioural patterns of university instructors regarding the use of an LMS by using sequential and clustering analysis techniques. The usage behaviours of 268 teachers at a public university in China were extracted from the Blackboard platform over the course of one-semester. These behaviours were classified according to five different LMS behavioural types: (1) course and content; (2) assignment; (3) communication and collaboration; (4) assessment; and (5) administration. The results indicated that the most frequent teachers’ LMS usage behaviour was course and content followed by assessment and administration. The results of the sequential analysis indicated that most of the instructors are used to adopting communication and collaboration and assignment when they finish using course and content. In addition, three distinct usage behavioural pattern subgroups were named as teachers preferred assessment, teachers of regular use, and teachers of less use. Implications of these findings are discussed in the light of the university teachers’ behavioural patterns toward using the LMS.

Palavras-chave: Educação a Distância. In the analysis, it is presented the migration of the typology, from the logic of university as a social institution to that of the fluid academy, from the typologies of management that have been adopted. Keywords: distance learning; management; public policies; public university. Resumén: El texto es una reflexión teórico-crítica sobre las más convencionales tipologías de Gestión de la Educación a Distancia en las instituciones públicas de enseñanza superior brasileñas, fomentando alternativas por la universidad como institución social. The conditions are investigated in which Spanish university teachers carry out their teaching and research functions. 655 teachers from the University of Oviedo took part in this study by completing the Academic Setting Evaluation Questionnaire (ASEQ). Of the three dimensions assessed in the ASEQ, Satisfaction received the lowest ratings, Social Climate was rated higher, and Relations with students was rated the highest. These results are similar to those found in two studies carried out in the academic years 1986/87 and 1989/90. Their relevance for higher education is twofold because these data can be used as a complement of those obtained by means of students' opinions, and the crossing of both types of data can facilitate decision making in order to improve the quality of the work (teaching and research) of the university institutions.

Information and communication technologies (ICTs) are key to create sustainable higher education institutions (HEIs). Most researchers focused on the students’ perspective, especially during the online teaching caused by COVID-19; however, university teachers are often forgotten, having their opinion missing. This study’s objective was to determine the factors that contribute to the inclusion of ICTs. The research based on a comparative study through an online qualitative survey focused on the inclusion and use of ICTs in two HEIs and two different moments (pre-and post-lockdowns). There were differences regarding country and working experience (p < 0.001), being linked to the ICTs use, evaluation of obstacles, and the role given to ICTs (p < 0.05). The COVID-19 caused modifications of the teachers’ perspectives, including an improvement of the opinion of older teachers regarding the essentialness of ICTs in the teaching process (p < 0.001) and worsening their perception about their ICTs skill (p < 0.05). Additionally, an initial model focused only on the university teachers and their use of ICTs has been proposed. In conclusion, the less experienced university teachers used more ICTs, identified more greatly the problematic factors, and considered more important the ICTs, with the perception of all teachers modified by COVID-19.

When adolescents go overseas to study, they have to face the challenge of adapting to local cultures, homesickness, and dealing with the stress. This study aimed to investigate the socio-cultural adaptation, homesickness, and perceived stress among international students in relation to social sustainability in a public university in Sabah, Malaysia. This research also related how international students manage both positive and negative impacts on their social life in university. The study included all international students in that university except Bruneian and Indonesian students. The sample group comprised 100 male and 100 female students. This study used four questionnaires: (i) Perceived Stress Scale, (ii) Homesickness Scale, (iii) Socio-cultural Adaptation Scale, and (iv) Revised Sociocultural Adaptation Scale. The results indicated that the socio-cultural adaptation and perceived stress levels were significantly correlated, r (198) = 0.354, p < 0.05. The level of homesickness and perceived stress were also significantly correlated, r (198) = 0.314, p < 0.05. The outcome of this study can help overseas students lead better lives abroad, while the university can arrange relevant activities to help them better adapt to local cultures and perceive less stress. The present study underlined the importance of increasing socio-cultural adaptation and social sustainability and decreasing homesickness among international students studying at the public university in Sabah.
